1. hahaha, small world! I'm played the new year's eve thing with them - and played at their wedding ceremony haha. Yeah, her voice is awesome! You should totally come to this year's new year thing. 20s gangster themed :)

Has anyone tried any of the cheap(er) Ultimate Ears stuff? Like these http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimateears/...perfi/index.php or anything?

  2. o.O very nice!
What about sony or sennheiser? Are they any good 'high' end?

just seen these as well http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/home_en.nsf...portable_500771
What do people think about this? i mean, they're slightly cheaper http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...86|cat:Portable but they look like they might be up to scratch.

    Or the IE 7 http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...86|cat:Portable

    or maybe even the IE8

  3. hi all, I've searched around a bit, but the topics I came up with were for the £30-£60 range and the £300-£500 range, and I've heard a few things around on this topic, but can't really find much of it again.

I've basically got some pretty nice sony MX-300s which sound good, but one of them is starting to die on me and it's panning and they're not amazing quality. So I was looking for a pair of in-ear headphones that i can use for general iPod usage, but still use for IEM if the need takes me there (at my church they have the capability for wireless IEM, but only occasionally use it - they're starting to trend towards it and my headphones won't be up to scratch). So christmas is coming up and I've got a budget of about £100-£120 (so the cheapest possible, really!) and I know you can get good deals around the internet.

So, any recommendations? I know ultimate ears do a cheap(ish) set for about £150, but I don't really wanna pay for the brand name.
And I've tried the bose in-ears and they're horribly bassy for my tastes. - may have been the buds I used them with.

oh yah, and by 'studio-type' I mean that it doesn't colour the sound really at all, as I really don't like hifi sound (my dad has a really nice one, and I'd much rather use my £100 samson studio monitors than it as I love the clarity)

  4.
You appear to be listening with your eyes! I see a ginger but i still think the tracks well played and recorded :)
I'm not sure that people have problems with the way cubase sounds, just the way it records. i.e. it's harder to use.

  5.
It would be even better if the 1-minute thingy only applied to new members (post count less than 50 or something).

    S.P.
Bad idea. Spambots come on here, post 51 posts and PM everyone spam or worse.

I say, make it the length you've been a member. A year or more of at least 1 post per day (average), and you can send PMs without restriction.

But then hacked accounts come into question, and then we have a problem.
How about those CAPTCHA things or whatever they're called

  6. Bonners are.. good. I live in Eastbourne, and wherever I see a price, I know that I can get it cheaper (mostly from gak.co.uk or in store). eg. I got my fender american 2008 standard jazz bass from gak.co.uk for £769 and they're doing them online for £959.00. Now I;m not sure what year that is, but they can't have got £200 better in the last year. I mean, I'd say shop around, and you'll be sure to (usually) find a better price. But for service they're excellent. And yes, why the hell is there a Brighton Uni campus here?!

  7.
Sorry to mooch in here with a question when you posted looking for answers, but I'm considering a 105Q at the moment - is this tone-sucking a trait of all 105Qs?

    Thanks,

    Mark
Apparently! Well I have one and it sounds good, and to be honest, I don't notice my tone changing that much. I've got a load of preamp goodness after it, and it's pretty much middle of my signal chain, so I've got stuff that doesn't need good tone to sound good (i.e. BMS, tuner, mute pedal) before it, so I'm not really ruining my tone with it in the signal chain, all the good tone-making pedals are after it.

  8.
Compressor at the end makes sense to me, on the thoery that however any other effects affect the signal, you should still always have balanced levels. Anything before the compressor is up to the user to try different variations till he gets his favourite set-up.

If compression is applied before the VXL, but after everything else, will this mean that any level-boosting pedal (Bass Xciter, Bass Blogger) won't actually result in a volume boost?

If compression is applied early in the chain (straight after the tuner, say), is there the risk that any level-boosting pedal wil blow the compressor's good work out of the water?
I'd 100% agree. Why would you put a compressor before (amongst others) an autowah or envelope filter which basically works on changes in volume? Unless you only had a bit of compression into it, and main compression afterwards.

  9.
My US Standard Jazz bass suits all of my needs. I have a couple of other toys that I very much enjoy alongside it, but it really is an all-in-one bass.

    Si
+1! haha. my standard american 08 jazz does all my work for me. Sounds great no matter what and has a really nice range of tones that pretty much all have their uses.

  10. Nooo! Not fair at all! I knew Lucie was out, but not about all this stuff!! arrghhh!!! I hate you Simon! You were the only sane one there! Kicking out (effectively) one of the best talents, and the only eye candy! - next thing you know cheryl will be mysteriously voted out...
