1. -> You're breaking bass strings? I can't begin to imagine what your playing style is like. If the bridge is well designed it shouldn't be doing that. <-

haha, I broke a bottom E the other day. But it was only because it was the string was thru-body and it was thinner at the bridge end than the rest of the string (maybe as an increase for sustain). Either way, it broke playing relatively hard rock (think linkin park kind of stuff, only slightly less) and it just gave way.

(OT story)

In the end I got a string off my other bass that was too short to get strung thru-body so it went through the bridge, then I gave my bass away to someone to borrow for recording (in promise for a new set of strings) and they came back with the top 3 thru-body and the bottom E thru-bridge. teehehee, good to see that he cared for her. :)

bottom line: Thru-body=breakable....easily

2. hmm, it would probably be a pedal on my board that I'd whack mayber for a solo boost (ok, probably not) or as a thing to cut all the treble and bass outa my sound, leaving the mids, then overdrive it for a just-bass-fill. Seems to sound nice when i do it on audacity! I'm thinking of it as an experimental pedal. Condier it still available and if it's still here in a week or so I'll grab it. :)

3. *ahem. This is the effects section. There's an amp section

As long as the generator gave out 240V 50hz AC then it should be ok. You may want to take it to a specialist to check it out

4. I should explain: I got my Archos 605 wifi back from repair for something else and it came back with a broken touch screen. Because of the buttons on the side of it, you can still navigate everything moderately quickly. I'm looking to sell it for £80 (towards an ipod), but am willing to offers (but not trades - unless it's an ipod classic 80gb+).

Comes with original box, original packaging, original headphones, original everything! There's a small dent on the back (cause of the original problem to do with booting up). If this does come back where it can't start up within 6 months of sell then I will refund it in full!

Pictures to be uploaded - it's in used condition, so the corners have scratches, etc. I comes with 2 series of scrubs, 1 livin it dvd, and a house of heroes music video (all together probably worth £50 anyway). Add to that my entire 20gb music collection, and it's worth it's money just in music. It's mostly rock with a bit of christian rock thrown in. From Thousandfootkrutch to Anberlin and a bit of ABBA for you perky ones . I'm not usually into the whole 'selling your music collection' thing, but I'm sure you'll find stuff you like!

Just to say: you are getting this for less than 30p per album!

It has no plug ins :) but they're not really neccesary, unless you're into the whole aac thing.

Pictures to come!

5. I've got one built into my 300watt combo. The only thing I can say is that it sucks some tone, gives some buzz, shaves a bit of bass, but does the job :) I don't use it unless I'm in a quiet setting where no one wants their faces melted off. Having said that, I can get the bassiness back by some sub-octaves on my combo as well, and by the 5-band eq

6. I had you hopes up for a minute! Pirate needs some help again!

After seeing this http://www.shotgunnmods.net/shotgunnmods.n...X_BMS_Mods.html I was wondering if anything is circling the net with DIY for the XO BMS. Mainly I want the mod with the expression pedal. I've got the XO, and I'm really gas'ng for one! I love the tone and the thought of a synthbasswah with that tone is orgasmic!

Thanks for any help!

7. Cheers for the replies. I agree with dangerboy about the amps. The mini-organisation that my band is with (Live in the Valley who lend us gear) have a couple of spyder guitar amps just sound horribly digital, and I tend to just steer clear of it. Line 6 just seems like you're saying 'I can't afford real gear so I'm just going to simulate it'..... which in my case is true :/. Nevertheless, it's like going out and showing off that you've got a rubbish old car because you can't afford a decent car. I'm trying to think of a better analogy, but I can't think of one :S

It seems like Line 6 is just the cheaper alternative. I'd rather just save up for pro gear rather than get a bunch of 2nd rate stuff. I know that you can get some professional sounds out of the stuff, but I like plug-and-play stuff (like the BMS, and other fx) that automatically gives you a nice tone that you can build up on.

8. obviously this is a lot of money, but recently my bass teacher (who owns a verrry nice s-sky) went out and bought a mexican squier jazz for international stuff and he's proper world class. If you're intending on recording a lot, then the fender, but for gigs, no one is going to notice a squier vs a fender

9. ooh, quite recently I was in your position. I was stuck between a fender american standard jazz and a musicman. I had £1000 from my grandfather's will (he always liked music, so I thought a new bass was in order) and I went into GAK, tried out all the fender jazzes (american standard - £769 new) and then tried the stingrays (about £1100 new) and I decided that it wasn't worth the extra £300 when I could go and get a BMS with the extra money.
Sorry for ther long boring story but bottom line was that I play a mixture of worship half-rock music @ church and semi-heavy band stuff. The jazz seemed to cover both nicely, and I could still melt people's minds at gigs with my BMS

10. hmm, if I were you I'd go down to maplins and check out their power supplies. I picked up a 2amp 9v power supply with more addapters on the end than I know what to do with for £20 and it works a treat. It's not too big either: it takes up 1 socket unless they're opposite each other (like on those wind up adapters with the 2 plugs facing 2 plugs: it then covers 2 sockets).

EDIT

I use it to power my boss 8-track recorder or my line of pedals using a daisychain (Tu-2, ODB-3, Jim Dunlop Wah). The only thing I'd say is that my ODB-3 has been getting some hum issues recently, but I think that's due to it breaking at the moment (it's like that on my other power supply)

11. Well the title says it all. For the last 3 years of my bass playing life (well, the only 3 years) I have been under the impression that they suck and I steer clear of them. I don't play heavy metal, so I see all their stuff as a bit like jackson guitars (made for metal, don't try and get anything else outa them). However, I've heard good things about them from people on here.
So what's your verdict on:

PODs (Live)
PODs (Studio)
Multi-effects units for bass (Live)
Multi-effects units for bass (studio)
Bass Amps (Live)
Bass Amps (studio)
and any other stuff they make.

I play mostly rock, hard rock and a tad bit of blues... only a tad.
Basically this kind of music: http://www.myspace.com/bandhybridhybrid - lol, it's not a malicious website.... :/
