Gooday everybody, I'm Jeff from Canberra in Australia, and I thought I would stick my beak in here, just to say g'day and get a... "Welcome to Basschat" from Zoe , and I think she should be made the "Official Meeter and Greeter" Just an opinion !
G'day Jeff, Chris from Canberra (originally Melbourne) here......how long have you been here (assume London)? Cheers
 2.
The only real benefit to the George L's system is compactness and convenience. You can of course make up cables of any length if you've got a soldering iron but it's a lot easier to just slice them and stick them together. And standard right-angle jacks often interfere with eachother when you've got a lot of pedals in close proximity. One other thing to consider is you can re-wire the jacks as often as you need to, whereas if you're making changes to your cabling with normal soldered plugs you'll probably have to replace a lot of the plugs. I see the prices have gone up since I last bought them. To be honest I'd take some convincing to buy into them with the prices as they are now, I think.
Agreed - they DO look very neat and tidy. But thats about it.
 3.
right, ive made a thread and read every thread on compressors, there has been lots of options but the same 4 seen to pop up most of the time...so can you guys post which of the listed compressors would be your choice so i can tally up Demeter Compulator Diamond Compressor EBS Multicomp BBE Optostomp
Hope I'm not joining the thread too late for the big tally-up..... Tried them all and owned the EBS, Demeter and BBE. IMHO, EBS wins, followed by Demeter. Another worthy contender is the Aphex Punch Factory. Looks a bit cheesy but does the job very nicely - and subtly - and an excellent price. Cheers.
 4.
I'm gonna have time and cash over summer and with a couple of music type projects on the horizon I've decided to finally build a pedalboard. Anywho, I was wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives to george l's for customs, i've got a fair few pedals so to hook them all up I'd need 20 connectors and 2 or 3 metres of cable, which would run £100+, which, call me old fashioned, just seems silly for patch cables. All I'm interested in george l's for is the custom length and very small connectors, I'm quite happy with my tone using the brightly coloured moulded plastic crap I have now, and I've heard a lot of people saying they didn't actually notice any tone improvement with george l's. So are there any less bankrupting alternatives that have very small right angled connectors, custom cable lengths etc? I don't mind having to solder them together as long as it's easy to do
Hey Bob, I posted something about a week ago re George L cables - specifically, that I feel the product is way overrated and a waste of money (and they ain't cheap either..) At the time of buying them, the other apparent choice was planet waves. Don't know what they're like but they couldn't be any worse than George Ls. Based on my experience, I'd have to say that you can't beat a good old-fashioned presoldered patch cable. I'm waiting on delivery of a bunch of Warwick cables that I ordered online through GAK and Stallion Music. They look and sound very well-made, have gold tips for better sound and come in lengths of 15, 20 and 30 cm. Also, their right-angled connectors are considerably smaller than just about every other presoldered patch cable out there. The best thing is the price.....16 of them at varying lengths for under £50, inc p+p!! Not trying to give Warwick a big plug or anything, just hate to see another guy waste around £70 for a crap product like George Ls (or perhaps something similar....) Anyway, cheers and good luck man!!
 5.
PM sent.
Hi, since you're sending out details ......suspect my Mu-tron may be in need of a once-over. Cheers
 6.
The Pedal Power II also has isolated outputs. What pedals are you running, and are you *really sure* you need isolated outputs?
Pedals used are Sadowsky preamp, EBS Multicomp, EBS Octabass, EBS Dynaverb and Mu-Tron III+ reissue. Also thinking about adding a Subdecay Prometheus and EBS Bass IQ. The main issues are that the Sadowsky really needs a clean power source for peak operation, and the Mu-Tron takes a whopping 24V to power up. Looking at bridging two isolated 12V outputs for the Mu-tron via a 'step-up' voltage adaptor - hopefully, for hassle and noise-free operation. I know the Voodoo Labs PPII also has isolated outputs but, unlike T-Rex and BBE, it can't be used internationally (without mods), only in country of purchase, and one day I'll be heading back home to Australia - naturally, wanting to take back with me whatever I buy over here!! Cheers
 7. Hi y'all I'm after a power supply for my pedalboard and have narrowed it down to the 2 above. The main things I'm looking for are reliable, noise-free operation and even power distribution. Hence I'm after something with isolated outputs and it seems the only ones that offer these are the BBE and T-Rex. Before making a final decision, has anyone got any views of how these 2 stack up against each other, based preferably on direct experience or knowledgeable sources (ie muso buddies, not spec sheets or salespeople)? Also, are there any alternatives that I could consider? Look forward to hearing your views!! Cheers ps not wanting to denigrate salespeople.....
 8.
I'm looking for a few of these: very specifically, not one of these The top one was made by GYC and distributed in the UK by JHS - it has a much shorter piece in between the two jacks than the bottom one and allows you to connect two pedals closer together. Has anybody seen them hanging up in their local music shop or come across anything identical? According to JHS they are now discontinued, but I would like to try and get my hands on 3 or 4 of them.
Recently I saw several of these types of connectors online through a company called Thomann. I believe they offer several versions, including ones that can connect up different brand pedals where input/output jacks are of different heights when sitting on a pedalboard. I think they may be a Danish or German company and will take email orders, but bear in mind you may need to add VAT and postage to the price. Good luck!
 9.
been waiting for one of these to come up 2nd hand for about 3 months and I finally snapped and bought one new last week for £56 I knew this would happen lol Its a brilliant pedal though not as hi gain as the little big muff but I think thats a good thing on bass bass boost and dry mix is a great option too
Its not bad for the price but doesn't stack up against EBS o/d or MXR pedals....that said, excellent value for money.
 10.
Purchased in April '09. Excellent condition, never used on gig. Still under warranty. Picture attached. Asking for £50 including packaging/postage. Cheers
Reduced for quick sale - now asking £40 including p+p.
 11.
I thought the screw was supposed to eat thru a bit to make the earth contact, but you don't tighten too much...just enough to "bite"? My complaint is with the cable itself - I put together two leads a while ago, and they keep curling up. Its quite stiff cable (the thicker one) and combined with its desire to curlup...makes for a useless guitar cable!
All up, I think conventional soldered jobs are the way to go.....for both pedals and instruments.
 12.
Are you OBBM in disguise?!
Who??
 13.
You sir, have PM
PM?........I'm new to the forum and not up with all the acronyms.....
 14. Boss OC-2 Octaver up for sale. Serial number is 245500, made in Japan around November '82 (from http://www.bossarea.com/serial/sndecoder.aspx). Excellent working condition, with footswitch engaging the effect first time, everytime (apparently some OC-2s suffer from footswitch problems). Great sound and typical Boss reliability. This pedal went up for sale on the forum and ebay about a week ago. Shortly after, some guy (not a forum member, I believe) made a suitable offer through ebay which was accepted. Unfortunately, the purchaser's personal cheque has bounced.....hence, the pedal is up for sale again. Happy to accept £60 including postage and packaging. Pix below. Cheers
 15.
It does eat into the plastic but I haven't heard any hiss although at the same time I've read reports that your sound should improve dramatically from using moulded plastic patch cables and I didn't hear that either. It's just neater. FWIW I didn't really see the set up as a chore or hassle but enjoyed putting it all together.
Yeah, they were kind of fun to put togerther, especially for a DIY type of dude. But bottom line is the product doesn't stack up to its reputation.
 16. Purchased in April '09. Excellent condition, never used on gig. Still under warranty. Picture attached. Asking for £50 including packaging/postage. Cheers
 17.
Are you sure you put them together right? I've never used George L's, but you mention the cap eating into the plastic indulation, but I'd assume the wire you were screwing into the cap would need to be fully stripped? That would explain the crappy sound if it was only making slight contact with the actual bare wire
Hi, I put them together as demonstrated on an 'official' instructional video - just cut with a stanley knife and insert without stripping the plastic coat. Interestingly, I've just finished reading a number of reviews on the Harmony Central site which report the same problems.......admittedly, however, most of the reviews rate this product as ok. Either way, its seems like a lot of dicking around when a soldered cable is just plug into pedal and you're ready to go.... Cheers, Chris
 18. Hi y'all I recently bought a DIY George L cable kit to connect up pedals in my board and would now seriously NOT recommend these as a good option. In theory a good idea if you want a neat pedalboard and they're easy enough to put together, but if you screw down the cap on the jack all the way down - which, presumably you're supposed to do to lock them in place - they tend to eat into the plastic coating and then the wiring. The result is a cable that either doesn't work properly or is destined to fail. Also, the sound is pretty disappointing - thin and hissy. Apparently these cables are consistently voted as winners in a number of US guitar player mags. Can't think why...... I also bought them as a slightly less expensive option but on reflection, they were quite expensive for what they are. The verdict: a crappy product. Save your hard-earned cash and stick to conventional soldered patch cables. Cheers
 19. Purchased in March '09, used twice on gigs. Up for sale on forum for £45 including postage/packaging, before going on ebay. Picture below. Cheers
 20.
Footswitch is in perfect order, and I'll wait to see what other offers come through first.
Hi, Thanks for your recent offer on the OC-2, however I've now sold it, hence the WITHDRAWN tag on my post. Best wishes finding another one (I've seen a few on ebay recently) or getting the one you've already got repaired (shouldn't be too difficult). Cheers
 21.
If it makes you feel any better my OC-2 does this too
Guys, it sounds like I've been unusually lucky to get one without any problems whatsoever........guess my old mum was right all those years ago when she said 'you're special!'
 22.
Yep, my OC2 needs to be jumped up and down on, so does my metal zone and so does my guitards little orange boss distortion pedal. grrrrrrrrrr.
Hmmmm.....most unusual. You guys wouldn't happen to have lead feet by any chance (just kidding!)
 23.
Yeah it seems everybody's Boss switches work fine except the ones I end up with - which is why I always ask now.
Never had any problems with any Boss pedals I've owned, all have been 100% reliable.
 24.
I'll give you £50 for the OC-2 if the footswitch is still in good functional order (no stepping on it a dozen times to get it to toggle on/off).
Footswitch is in perfect order, and I'll wait to see what other offers come through first.
