  1. My holy grail of pedals... and one I've lusted over since the day it launched - the Microcosm is here.

    IMG_6663.thumb.jpg.26b43a8bba8d68f772f63c7c6ab8cbfd.jpg

With a lack of UK distribution, the eBay pricing for these has been obscene, however, with Hologram adjusting their shipping rates and now shipping globally using a DDP shipping service (meaning all the VAT and customs fees are paid in advance - importantly working out a lot cheaper than paying yourself on arrival!), the overall price to buy direct has dropped a lot. In fact, this was ordered, delivered within 5 days and cost £100 less than the average 2nd hand one listed on eBay!

The Microcosm is a soundscape makers dream - granular delays, micro looping, freeze effects, lust delay and verbs, revise effects, glitching... the list goes on.

For a great deep dive on bass, here is a demo from Zack Rizer -

I've been playing non-stop for the last 5 hours and honestly, I've never been as blown away by a pedal in my life. This is going to keep me very occupied for a long, long time!

I was on the hunt for one of these a few months back (no longer needed).

After a lot of research into what would be the best Delay/Reverb combo pedal, this was the one that came out on top by a country mile. If I was in the market, this would be the one I'd buy.

I’m certainly not selling my 2nd one for good reason! Once upon a time I was firmly in the ‘TC Electronics make the best delays’ camp, but SA have well and truly taken that mantle! :)

  3. Easily the best delay and reverb pedal I’ve ever used on bass. So good in fact that I own two of them… and I can just about live with one.

Incredible sounding and super versatile, allowing you to run a delay and reverb simultaneously (or two delays or two reverbs).

This is in near mint condition, boxed, complete with power supply, neuro hub cable and unused rubber feet (Velcro on bottom of the pedal).

£285 posted in the UK. Collect from Derby and save a fiver.

    Any questions, please ask!

Didn't I sell you one of these yeeeears ago?

Surely can't be the same one...

You may have done. I've owned three over the years (all black). Each time I sell one, a year later I want it again. This time, after having not played it in 12 months, it's finally time to sell on (again... for a third time). I have had this one for a long time though... it may have been yours once upon a time!

EDIT - I purchased one from you in March 2011. I'm pretty sure this is not that one. I think I've had this one for about 6 years. So many Ashborys! ha.

  5. Pretty rare and highly unique Ashbory bass. Super mega tiny, but sounds round and full, much like an EUB.

Here is the low down on its history for those interested enough - https://www.basscentre.com/bass-centre-ashbory-bass.html

This one is in overall great condition, with just one small dink on the headstock. It's annoying, as other than the dink, the bass is pretty much spotless without a scratch. It also has the official case, Ashbory branded strap and a sealed set of the now stupidly rare, Ashbory branded strings.

I'm asking £225 collected in Derby. I'd rather not ship, but if I do, you'll need to allow me some time to find suitable packing materials and the cost of insured shipping is to be paid by the buyer.

    Any questions, just ask!

I know nothing about this pedal. Tell me more

    It’s a PLL.

A good description from Broughton Audio, who make a pretty accessible PLL:

“PLL stands for Phase Locked Loop. In short, it is an analog synthesizer with three channels: Square Wave, Multiplier, and Divider.

The pedal operates by taking your input signal and applying a massive amount of gain to make it essentially a square wave signal.”

You basically have three voices you can blend together (or just use one or two of them), with two of them being a multiplication or division of the core frequency. Any of all of the voices can be modulated with an LFO, and various other processing can be applied as well, such looping the last thing played anytime you stop to crest a drone that always changes, or just activate a drone tone and play the pedal, rather than the input signal.

Overall you get utter sonic chaos. It’s abrasive and nasty, but also has some elements of old school synth tones.

I’m very impressed with what it can do and feel like it’s going to give me a lifetime of knob tweaking.

    Here is an example:

  7. Boss SL-2 Slicer.

Very cool pattern tremolo, arpeggiator,  sequencer, rhythm maker type thing. Amazing for getting the creative juices flowing. This is only 2 months old, only ever used at home and it’s pretty much mint.

    Boxed and complete.

  8. Source Audio Aftershock Bass Distortion.

Super versatile bass drive with preset ability and almost unlimited tone sculpting if you want to use the app (though the ‘out of the box’ settings are pretty great too!).

Only ever used at home. Near mint condition. Velcro on the bottom. Boxed, with power supply, Neuro Hub connection cable etc.

  9. Super excited to have this land today. Montreal Assembly PURPLL (but in white, not purple).

PLL madness with a scary amount of control. It only landed an hour ago, so the jury is still out, but so far.... DAMN! This thing is a noise-makers dream come true. Given the way I approach bass playing and soundscape creation, I am pretty sure I'm going to be giving this beauty some serious love!

    Any other owners/users around BC?

  10. That all makes sense, it is just far less common to see them in that order, so I was interested in the reasoning.

The traditional combo of Octave - Dirt - Filter (in that order) for classic bass synth sounds is the most common approach, but of course, there are always exceptions (and fuzz after filter does have some interesting textures to play with). I honestly think that this is the first time I've ever seen an octaver at the end of a signal chain though. Out of interest, what kind of music are you using the board for?

A little change on my board.

    EQ-200 and Darkglass VMT off

    EBS drive and C4 on.

Micro Thumpinator is underneath with the power supply.

The EBS has a very different drive sound than the Darkglass and I'm enjoying getting away from the DG sound that seems to be everywhere at the mo.

The EBS is more versatile than I thought it would be. I knew what I was getting in terms of high gain sounds but I wasn't expecting the lower gain ones to be as good as they are.

I had one of the older models before and it wasn't nearly as good as this one. There's more gain available but it's noise floor is way lower, and the different tone sweep is really useful.

I might play around with the order a little. Filter and C4 always first but I might swap the compressor and the drive over to see if I like that more.

PSA: Hotrox has the EBS for a good £20 lower than everywhere else!

Octave at the end and filter first!? What is this heresy!?

so glad i took the gamble on a cavebear! (NON Human Audio) oh boy! such a great sounding pedal! and the most simple distortion/fuzz on my board!!

also got to try out a new addition to the rig my Peavey mk3 400 series! ( due to my gk crapping itself!!! ) that into a 215 is just lovely!

Can you compare it to anything? Some of my fav pedals (and big regrets over selling), were those with super simple controls - Fuzzrocious Ram the Manparts springs to mind.

I've been using a small pedal board fir a while with my Rock project, but my fusion band gas a gig in May, do with a few additions I'd post the big one again 🤣

For this Band I'll be using an 82 JV Squire jazz and a Yamaha BB1024

    Tone Enhancement section

EBS Microbass 2 - A/B box/ Preamp/DI/ Overdrive/ headphone amp and Effects loop. very useful bit of kit and great quality sound. In the loop I have all of the effects, so I can use them through the Headphones. I use this live as an A/B Box and set the eq/drive sections to be as flat as possible, Channel A is clean but with the tube sim and bright engaged.

(From the EBS link jack) - Donner Deluxe Mini tuner- kept losing the Headstock thing and got fed up of asking the the Keyboard player to give me an E 😂

Sadowsky BP2 preamp - mostly to add Treble and bass to the EBS channel B which is a drive channel. I have the Drive a zero and mids set flat, it's a darker but quieter sound. The Sadowsky equalises the volume difference.

FEA Optifet - my favourite compressor, so much control and a great tone. Depending on the internal switches, it can sound like a Cali76CB (not as bright) or a fat Diamond. The sidechain allows the lows to breath. I have it set at its cleanest setting.

JPTR FX Jive Reel Saturator - great little pedal thst just adds a warm Thickness to the tone when set low. The three switchable Diodes provides OD/Distortion abd even a pseudo Fuzz with silicon switched in (reminiscent of a Mastatron)

BOSS LS2 - splits the signal after the comp, so all effects have compression beforehand. Has two seperate lines of FX that I can switch between or run in parallel

    Loop A - general effects.

Aguilar Octamizer -  great versatile and fat sounding octave, the filter and tilt EQ makes it useful. This is used for parallel octave, or switching between different octave tones.

EBS Bass IQ - this is a great sounding filter!! Lots of variation with the modes and simple to use. Not as fat or resonant as some, but has a great tight/clear filter tone that cuts through really well.

EBS Dphaser - As above but a funky, swirly, fat and very cool Digital Phaser. I love this thing

    Loop B - Synth Channel

Emma - Okto Nojs - Octaver and synthy Dynamic Fuzz in one pedal, can be used individualy or combined for Dirty synth tones.

Source Audio C4 synth- had one of these before, with a posh midi thing, only used 6 sounds in it 🤣

Synths/octavers/filters/phasers allsorts in here, but just sticking to thd six sounds this time

3 Leaf Groove Regulator - Spencers original (and to many, his best) lovely subtle sounding filter, which is fat organic and funky. Works great as part of a synth setup.

Source Audio Gemini - Every type of Modulation available. I have Chorus/Flangers and Phasers built in. Works great adding Chorus to the Analog/Digital synth sounds I have available.

    20230416_135508.jpg

Miss my OG Groove Regulator. Great filter. Prob in my top three envelope filters. Not a pedal you see crop up often either.
