1. Food for thought... Students who get into the Royal academy spend their time developing the most simplest of exercises which allow them to take on the most demanding Double bass repertoire out there... So... Its up to you to focus either on the effortless demand of the double bass or struggle with the demands that repertoire asks of you! Learning notes is easy, but getting them to be lyrical and sing is another thing!!! Anyways, good luck! wish you all the best!!!! have a listen to this http://youtu.be/5x-_EiW2BZs?t=12m11s Perfection to me!

Is there a prize for getting Pete to buy the rosin we recommend? I suppose I could shout louder about Pops if there is.

I'm pretty sure that Kolstein isn't the only rosin that works.

Well dude, Am only suggesting a solid product used by many professionals... Oh wait here's a link to a player who uses the same product... ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4fV0BkL7Iw
Am trying to save people's money and wasted time on products I've used and not got on with...
It's a forum to help people. However Use any rosin.. end of the day its all about the weight and relaxation in your arms...
Matt is the loudest double bass player in London due to his complete relaxation in his arm! So anyways... Goodluck!

3. I've noticed a lot of people buying or starting the double bass or learning the art of the bow... So I thought it would be a good idea to have people share their recommendations between books that helped them or not helped them...

If you could list them like this below...
Title - Duncan McTier Daily Exercises
Comment - Has helped me facilitate solid left hand and right hand technique... Which within a few sessions I saw tremendous confidence with shifting etc...
Style - Classical/Mechanics of the Double bass...
Av price - £6

For people who haven't heard of Duncan's talents heres a link to Spotify... What a delight he is to listen too... Bass playing at its finest....

Will add more when I have time but at the moment this is my first recommendation...

4. Trust me it works... I find Nymans a powdery mess and not the best to grip strings... Apply sparingly after your bow has some "gunk" in it already... Remember to play the bass with no rosin swiped that day as it might be fine! if it needs more.. swipe it once... test... if a little more.. then add... As you don't want a build up of clumps of rosin etc..

5. Renting costs £37 a month inc insurance @ Thwaites (don't quote me on that just from memory but to be safe £40/m) like a 1/m rolling phone contract you use it for however as long as you'd like... i.e 1st March - 1 April 1 month fee and if you want to send it back do so... etc... . renting form your council is the other alternative.. My mum pays £40 a year for a cello from Kent music for my bro.. or £80 a year for adults... Might I add, If you was to advance forward in the Contrabasse please steer away from any Thomann, G4Music or Gewa... Cos end of the day its just a waste of good cash... tame the Gas Because you buy... Unless you find a craking bass that is £500 or £1200 the difference isn't all that... However, you having a £4000+ bass compared to a £2500+ bass is a big leap. The Bryant is true value... Any other Luthier in uk starts at around 10k + being made soley in the uk..

6. BUMPed too all the people who'd like to take up classical dbass lesson pm jeremy or call him as he is looking for a few new students in the london/kent area!!
The tutor best I've had to date and a real pro who earns his whole living from playing the double bass! so listen and practice hard...
