This weekend's gigs...
We played at a pub very local to me on Saturday and the turnout wasn't as great as it used to be. The old landlord has moved to another town and his daughter's now running the place. He was the life and soul and I think the punters miss him. The punters aren't that musical... and now the landlord has moved on, their loyalty to his daughter who's taken the pub on is not what it could be. We spent some of the second half being heckled by this enormous stupid bovine woman who always insists that we play some Irish music - to the pint of halting our performance - she was yelling for Whiskey In The Jar, which we never do anymore because we are sick of it. We did play the slow version of Don't Believe A Word for her, followed by the fast one - possibly the best we've ever done it.... and she said it was shite. Pearls before swine. One for the money.
Sunday was the regular jam night that we've done for about 8 years at the same venue. It's getting a bit 'groundhog day' now. The same people doing the same things. I'm getting a bit bored with it tbh. Due to my ongoing health concerns, I was really tired at the jam night and once again, I was the only bassist there. Three and a half hours stood there onstage with people who just play the same stuff year in - year out and not always very well.... I'm going to give it another month, then get a sub in for the jam night for a while, as it's too hard.-

I have Strats and Les Pauls and a few others, but the one I would choose as 'the one' is a Strat.
You can make a Strat sound like a Les Paul, but not vice versa... -

I was wondering too. The best that I could come up with was Jean Michael Jarre.

I agreed a sale on this one a while ago, but the buyer faded away.
It has had minimal use since. It's a brilliant bass to play. Sounds superb.-

And they've acquiesced and agreed to buy me out, rounded down to the nearest hundred quid. I don't know why it was so difficult to get that far, but I guess egos were bruised all round.
It's a happy ending. They get to carry on, I'm out their way, a new guy gets a crack at it and a worthy charity gets a decent pay day, so everyone comes out with something.
I'm going to try something different. I'll do a bit dep work but that aside I've decided to concentrate on improving my own playing skills for a bit and do some teaching.
Good to read that you've managed to sort it.

Post edited as I have now seen OP's post about an agreement.

Very fond of mine.
I should gig it more often than I do.

I love my two Player P's.
And also the red Vintera I got last year.

I have a gorgeous and immaculate custom shop Warwick Thumb NT in walnut that I have owned for many years and it's too nice to take out very often.

I haven't bought a bass this year.
I have far too many and a couple of years playing left at most.
I have got the hots for a couple of things but then I just think 'oh why bother, I have enough good basses anyway?'
There's nothing like going out with a newly acquired bass, but I do like what I use anyway.

The G&L headstock at the start of the topic doesn't look too bad to me.
I'm very wary of saying that something about someone else's gear is ugly, as they might love it.I remember a local musician really losing it and going off into a rant on Facebook at the apparent ugliness of a Dean stage acoustic guitar that I own. I asked a couple of normal people to make sure I wasn't deluding myself into being seen playing A PIG. That all said it was nice enough.

Well, she's got the bass job now. If she suck, the band will suck.
I was going to suggest that you took a flask on stage and pointedly stood and drank a cup of coffee while they played the Madonna song.
Best wishes in your next venture. You know what to avoid now.-

Okay...but would you take a irreplaceable bass (let's say, your MK1 Wal) to the Dog and Duck during free beer night?
I have been hosting a jam night every Sunday for about 10 years now. I often take one of my 4 Rickenbacker 4003s to the jam. Mortals use a Squier if they need to borrow a bass, though. I will sometimes crack out my Gretsch White Falcon if I want to play a guitar.
I always keep my good gear safe and secure and don't worry at all about using it anywhere I play.

Would you prefer a stable of cheap yet playable basses or one single "nice" bass?
A great bass is a great bass. A room full of also rans is just frustrating.
Life's too short to play crappy guitars.-

The problem with 'hating songs with a passion' is that someone else likes them, so if I don't like something, well that's MY problem ..
