1.
It would use your existing volume controls and is a bass cut/boost and treble cut/ boost on two pots. the board has two small switches that I think change the frequencies at which these work. The circuit board is attached to one of the pots and I reckon you would need about 23mm depth in the control cavity.

Thanks. I'll keep this in mind, as it could work, but I am looking for something with, well, more knobs! Ideally I would like a mid control too, and some form of pickup blending. Thanks a lot for the offer though!

  2.
I've got an EMG 9volt kicking around if it's of any use to you?

    Dave
Hey, that is quite tempting. What controls does it have, and more importantly, how deep is it? The Thunderbird is really quite thin at the control cavity.

    Thanks :)

  3.
No possibility of returning it to where you bought?
If only I could. Sadly it's an ebay special, and I doubt they will take it back after it's been soldered. If this is hopeless, can anyone recommend a fairly cheap pre-amp circuit that is fairly low profile?

  4. Hi there - I have just finished installing an Artec SE3 preamp into my Epi T-Bird, and I have had no end of bother with it. Poor quality soldering that had to be redone, flimsy battery connector...

Anyway. I was hoping that someone here could help me. When I first set it all up and began playing (bass->amp), it was HORRIBLE. The tone knobs do not work, and (from my limited electrical know-how) it sounds as though the op-amps in the circuit are distorting, even with low volumes. What makes this more annoying is that, with an 18v power supply as opposed to the 9v, it still fails to work properly - most of the nasty distortion has gone until full volume, where it returns - but the tone knobs are still non-functioning. The pots are wired properly and plugged into the blasted thing, it just gives me no joy.

    Any advice is most welcome!

    Many thanks.

  5. Got some pictures up. Am ready to sell this bass on for a low price.

Comments I've had on it are that people really enjoy the way the colour of the bass subtly shifts from greens to browns to blues to blacks. Recording engineers and fellow bassists have also said they liked the sound of the pickups. I agree, as they sound very natural, with a hint of a kind of chorusy sound.

  6. Hey all - got a Rebel 5K that I dont really use enough... just a feeler to gauge interest (if there is any!). The bass plays fine, there is a slight bow in the neck that can make positions above 10th fret feel a bit unnatural, but it's all sounding fine. Located in North Berwick, Scotland, but willing to post. Pictures will follow when I get my cam working!

    Thanks.

  7. I can understand that a lot of people really dislike the tweeters - I had a couple of Hartkes with AWFUL ones, made it sound really tinny. But I just want a bit of high end sparkle from the 410, it just sounds almost muffled at the moment. And what sort of alternatives are there to the bright boxes? I read somewhere on here there was a 5 tweeter box kinda thing, but the link was dead.

    Thanks!

Found this - might be a tad OTT though! http://www.soundselectric.com/600w-piezo-t...-box-p-248.html

  8. I've played with a Firebass (very similar to the Tour 700) and they're brilliant amps. Built like tanks, they have loadsa features and go ridiculously loud. I will agree that it did sound a bit weak with just one 8 ohm cab, unsure as to why... but it will go CRAZY loud with 2. And to be honest, if you have a nice enough bass, the very "pure" sound you get from the head will be good enough anyways. You can see what sorta stuff I play through in my sig, and it sounds wicked!

Oh, and I got it for £250 off the bay.

Big thumbs up to them! Shame they arent rack mountable... been toying with a compressor / tuner / HUGE EQ combo. Ah well!

  9. Hey guys, I own a Peavey 410 TX and was just wondering if anyone else had owned them and the tweeter had blown. Also, has anyone got a spare one or know where I could get one for cheap? I've been browsing the old googlator and found lots of stuff in America and China... argh.

Finally, how much would a TE Bright Box normally go for? Just acquired a 1510X and would love to pair it up with one.

    * phew *

    I think that's everything!

    Cheers.

  10. Hey guys - just bought a fantastic Trace Elliot 1510x from Basschat Member Stag, and would just like to say that he was absolutely fantastic about staying in touch, very quick to respond and an all round sound guy. I think the less said about the rather festive wrapping paper the better :) but the cab arrived just as described.

    Top bassist!

    Matt.

  11. Thanks, the 410 is a 4 x10", each speaker at 8 Ohms each. I've had a look via the search function and can't find anything related to this... apologies if I am just missing it! I think I may have solved my problem, in a way... http://colomar.com/Shavano/2x12wiring.html this page demonstrates a wiring of a 2 speaker cabinet, so by arranging the 4 in series/parallel it should be possible to get the switching done between 8 and 4. However, please correct me if I am wrong! (i.e. as it is now, 8 ohms, and all paralleled, 2 ohms.)

    Thanks.

  12. Hey guys and gals.

Just wondering if somebody could give me a bit of help! I have a Peavey 410TX, which has served me well for years, but I have just come into possession of a Firebass Head (700W @ 2 Ohms). Because of this, I am trying to find a way to get the Peavey (currently 8 ohm) to switch between 8 and 4 ohms, so I can get the maximum potential from my head. I would be chaining it with another cab, which would probably have the same mods done to it. I dont mind wiring, it's just I am unsure of the switch loadings and how robust they need to be.

Thanks for your time, and I hope I've explained that ok... sorta. :)

    Matt
