1. All makes sense, thanks! Sorta rings various bells in my brain from my days at school in music lessons... I'm not even going to start about the random timings our writer uses... 12/7 was one according to our drummer who's the most advanced music theorist of the lot of us!!!
2. Ahh I see! I assumed that the 16th note etc was to do with note 16 in a sequence - i.e. some progression I didn't know about!
3. Given that I'm only partly taught in technique and little in theory, I'm getting confused by 16th/18th note references in BGM etc. What are these? I'm more confused by the instruction example on page 78 where the guy is talking about moving around from first to 18th note.... But Ex1 has 35 notes in it... Help - it all sounds terribly interesting and useful but I've got no idea what it's all about!!!!
4.
Thats a shame - would have liked to have seen that But then, there's always this...
We could have jousting tournaments in the office with two of those!
5. Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell. With a bit of Laura Nyro, Kate Bush, Sinead O'Connor, Bjork, Judy Collins and Mamma Cass thrown in... Bass player? Hmm... Jaco is a def fave.... So many to choose from though!
6. Am after good pedals for the above, but not bank breaking... Anyone have any good recommendations? Cheers
7. Not that I could really afford it, but chucked in a bid on a double necked Atrics bass (4/5 string). Didn't win and it was collection only from Wolverhampton (I'm on the South Coast) but someone got a bit of a bargin I reckon for just £166. Why do these things never come up when I have cash? LOL
8.
Not as far as I'm aware? Where did you hear that?
Just assumption as I can never, ever find them in the shops!
9. Hey y'all What are good exercises for making your little finger mighty? Obivously practice helps, but I really need to lay down some strength in that digit! Are stress balls etc useful for this? Cheers
10.
I bought a couple (BGM) a year or so ago, and my impressions were: Amateurish, parochial, small-minded and patronising, with sections seemingly cut & pasted from manufacturers promotional material. I haven't bought one since - but I'll probably give it another go some time... I still buy Bass Player (probably about every other month) *in spite* of it being American, advert-loaded and with the occasional article on 'tone-improving power cords' that makes me want to fly over and strangle the sub-editor responsible with one!
Where do you get BP then? I thought it had gone bust? Latest BGM is good with a change of EIC...
11.
Maybe. Perhaps it is a mistake, but Paul Geary's column is word for word the same as the second half of last month's column, with the addition of a picture of a tour bus...
Ahh ok - didn't see that... Didn't read it last month either...
12. Opened it and started from the back as always... There's stuff for real beginners in there. I nearly dropped my coffee. Then I noticed that the styling had been tweaked which suggested that there was a new EIC. And, on flicking to the front - there is!!! And it's now going monthly (so I hope my sub covers this and won't run out stupidly early)... Will this bring radical changes? On first impressions, I hope so!
13. I got a subscription for it from my parents Xmas... I used to read it and BP years back when I first played... Very disappointed with it now... Seems to be only for the real musos, apart from anything else. For a learner(ish) like me, there's not a lot of use...
14.
i sold you the bass you came and collected it from basingstoke and i had previously bought it from ebay although im sure the seller actually lived in the same region as mansons guitar shop, glad you have restored it looks brilliant that was my original plan but i think i still have guitars lying around i intended to restore lol good job looks brilliant
The chain is complete! I reckon you bought it from me then sold it to Trev... All that we need now is for the owner prior to me (bassist from Proteus) to come forward then we're almost back to the CC guy!!!
15. hi y'all As I'm new here (lured in by what looks like a pic of my old, and much missed bass), I thought I'd intrdouce myself. After a lay off of about 10 years (and I'm still only 27) I'm back in a band. What started as acoustic folk-roots is turning into rock monster-ness, which is rather nice So cool to be playing again, but if I had more time to practice life would be perfect! In the stable are my original bass (Fender P copy which I've had since I was 15), my new-ish Shine Active and an Ashton EA bass. All four string - my brain melted when I tried out a 5 string and then with 6 string turned me into a gibbering chimp... The Shine currently has strange nylon wound strings on (rbbish for an active) that I bought by mistake. However, it does give it a freaky double bass wubble-wubble tone which comes in handy! Can't get rid of the active buzz with these tho! These are running through an amp I was given on permanent loan - an early 1970s WEM Dominator Mark II. Oh man is that some amp or what!!! I still miss my Peavy BW loaded 600w with Trace Elliott 800 head which I sold years back when I left my last band, but there you go. The tone of this beast is amazing - and it was free! So there we have it, that's roughly me... When the band gets going and gigging/recording, I'll post some stuff p Cheers Neil / Cornfedapache.
16.
did yours have "MAC" inlaid on the fingerboard ?
I think so but I can't remember properly...
17. Hi there I'm wondering if this is my old bass. Did you, by any chance, buy it from Ebay and collect it from a property just outside of Crawley, West Sussex? Thank you! Neil
