I've got my 1001 in a 2U case and made some vent holes on top where the fan is. Being the modern plastic stuff it looks ok too.

I know what you mean about the 'clack'. I don't know why more manufacturers don't opt for a small speaker instead of a horn, like the Hartke 4.5xk (brill cab by the way).

Can't help on the H & K. Are you just anti-HF horns? You can attenuate most horns.

I've had TE cabs in the past, but now have three of the new Aguilar DB112 (1 x 12") cabs. Fantastic, and although NOT neo speakers, they are still very manageable. If you had four of these though you'd need an amp with 2-ohm capability.

In my opinion, there is no competition - the Hartke 4.5 is a much better cab. I had one of these and a 215xl running off my Hartke 7000 head. Awesome. The 4.5 has a small HF speaker rather than a horn, so I felt the highs were much smoother.

I was intending to modify this as a project bass and add tort scratchplate, ashtrays, Wizards, thru-body, Badass3, but I can't get used to switching from 5 to 4 strings then back again!! So decided it needs to go. The original owner said it was made in 1999.
I'll post some pics if you want, but they'll just show a totally mint sunburst MIM jazz bass!!
I'm looking for £250.

I don't think you'll get a MIM scratchplate to fit. Its because both pickups are the same size. I'm gonna make my own!

I'm not sure what IEM system you're using, but I can relate to the in-ear sound being different to the front of house sound, and this does, without a doubt, affect your playing.

To get round this I connect my line-out from the amp to the PA, but this goes thru my own mini-mixer. I connect a spare PA monitor outs to one channel of my mixer, and then use Shure E2 earphones. I had to spend a bit of time at a live gig to get the PA monitor mix right, but once that was done it hardly changes gig to gig. My amps line-out goes to another channel of my mixer, so I can be as loud as I want in the ears. Plus I have 4-band eq on the mixer to play with. It works for me and I can be as loud as I like without the drummer asking me to turn down!

Hi,
I would suggest giving Hartke a look. My very very first bass amp was a Peavey combo, but at only 100w I soon grew out of it. I moved up to Trace Elliot, but soon changed after hearing Hartke. Their 3500 head is extremely potent and will keep up with a gigging rock band. I would recommend their 4.5xl (4 x 10) and 115xl (1 x 15) cabs. Check thomann website as their prices for Hartke are pretty keen.

Just came across this on Gumtree. If its too good to be true it usually is! When I enquired, I got the identical response to another bass I spotted. That was a 1963 Jazz for £2200. These are obvious scams. The seller explains they have recently moved to Kirkwall, Orkney (pick the most remote place on the map), and asks for money transfer. There must be ways of finding out who these idiots are?

Shame. I like Wal basses.

Roughly what would you expect to pay for a 1977 Fender Precision with original hard case. Its Black with maple neck?
It has a few body knocks, but only minor. And some minor finish crazing.

So how much will one of these basses cost now?

Perhaps when their profit margins increase they could invest in some radius cutting router bits and do something more interesting with that body shape!

Some argue that the woofer/tweeter arrangement leaves a gap in the crucial midrange frequencies, particularly with a 15" & tweeter. Can't comment coz I've never had or tried a three-way cab.

I had a Hartke 7000 head (350w + 350w) and their 215XL and 4.5XL cabs. If it wasn't for the wedight I'd still have it. It was absolutely awesome. Especially in bi-amp mode. Even though the 215 was 4-ohms and the 4.5 was 8-ohms, there was no detrimental effect as a result. If your back can handle it, and you are able to fit the rig in your wheels, then I'd recommend it 100%

I've heard that the Heart Rock head is a corker. Especially now its been upgraded and goes down to 2.6 ohms (1000w). That was next on my list below my DB750, which I've just bought! There aren't many decent amps that go down to 2 ohms, although manufacturers are catching on.
