Hi lushuk, My cabs are the Marshall IBS 1540 cabinets 400 Watts at 8 ohms each with single 1/4" jack input on each. One is in good condition the other is in less good with some rips in the tolex. I am pretty sure the VBA head fits well on top but will go and check if you are interested and can send pics if you give me your email address thanks Matt -

Nope - no crossovers or tweeters involved so makes things easier - although whilst very appreciative I didn't really understand the wiring diagram OBBM sent through - as previously mentioned I am rubbish at these things! Also worried that the switch OBBM suggested may get snapped off as I load / unload the cab out of the back of my van so am leaning towards the recessed jack plate I put a link to - just hope it works in the way i hope!

obbm - tell me more? What sorcery is this you speak of? How would I procure such a device? And how should it be wired? (All this electric gubbins really isn't my thing as you can probably tell!) If you could give me a complete fool proof idiots guide I would be most grateful!

So here's my maths!! If the speakers in a 1960a cab are 16 ohm then 2x16Ω drivers in series to give you 32Ω and that pair wired in parallel to the other pair to bring you back to 16Ω 4x16Ω drivers in parallel to give 4Ω total so using 8 ohms speakers would give: 2x8Ω drivers in series to give you 16Ω and that pair wired in parallel to the other pair to bring you back to 8Ω - Use Soundcity 4x8Ω drivers in parallel to give 2Ω total - Use Marshall Does anyone know if the switch will change the wiring from parallel to series parallel then? Maybe I should just buy it - wire it up and check the impedances with a multimeter? Argh! Why didn't i pay more attention to physics at school! Help!

I know - i don't need 4 ohms. If I can switch between 8 and 2 ohms I can run the soundcity at 8 ohms and the marshall at 2 ohms. My question is if i use a 4 or 16 ohm switch on my cab will it give me the equivalent 2 or 8 ohms that i need?

Probably a daft question but just want to double check. I have a Marshall 4x10 cabinet that uses 4 X 8 ohms speakers wired to give a total of 8 ohm impedance. This is fine for my soundcity B120 which has an 8 ohm tap. The problem is I have recently acquired a marshall VBA 400 which can only run at 2 or 4 ohms. I realise my cab can be rewired to give a total load of 2 ohms but my soundcity can only go down to 4 and I would like to be able to use both heads with this cab without having to rewire each time. My question is this - i know lots of cabs (marshalls etc) have switchable inputs for either 4 or 16 ohms - (or 8 ohms stereo). Could I install one of these switch plates into my cab (e.g something like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marshall-Cabinet-Jack-Socket-1960A-B-/390341143048?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item5ae2252a08#ht_500wt_951) and instead of 4 or 16 ohms it would be the 8 and 2 ohms I need? Don't want to blow up any output transformers! Thanks Matt

Arghhh - I really don't know if i want to do this - but i think i must! For sale is my beloved Trace Elliot AH250 GP11 MK2 head. This was my first 'proper' bass amp and I used it exclusively for about 6 years. Has done gigs / festivals and practices and NEVER let me down - ever! Has been my backup amp for a while as my Soundcity had a habit of shaking itself to death but that seems to be cured now so this is not being used and should probably go It is 250 watts solid state which has been loud enough for everything I've ever done - has an xlr DI output too if you need help from the in house PA. Has the GP11 preamp and that classic 'trace tone' people talk about - at one point I also owned a mkV AH250 but chose to keep this one as I preferred the sound it made. The amp works perfectly, the two speed fan and UV light switches are both operational. The amp has a hand wired component board (if that matters to you) and high spec capacitors - you can switch the plug off and it will keep playing for 2-5 seconds! It definitely isn't a lightweight amp. Bad points - some of the plastic sliders have broken off on the eq but all still move and work like they should. The preshaped / flat switch is a little temperamental so I always left it on flat and eq'd. This is an early 80's amp - well before the Gibson owned era of Trace elliot - and I have only seen one other of these. I really loved this amp and had some great times with it but would like it to be used and enjoyed by someone. Not definate I want to sell this (I'm a sentimental fool) - £250

For sale is my Epiphone Eb0. I bought it to try out a short scale bass (this one is 30" scale) as the guitarist in my band comes up with riffs that are a big stretch on a bass! However years of playing standard scale meant that this wasn't for me. It is in immaculate condition - not a scratch on it. It is the classic Gibson SG shaped body in cherry red - a little darker than it looks in the photos. There are a few marks on the bridge adjustment screws from when it was set up and has new strings on it so plays very nicely. Very simple bass with the big single humbucker pickup and just a volume and tone pot - means you can set up quickly and concentrate on your playing! Sounded lovely through my soundcity b120 - warm vintage tone with lots of mids and classic looks too! £120 posted
