Hi

Interested in why you say this. I have a OLP MM3 and rather like the passive tone, it has a nice bark to it. However I have never played the real thing so cant really compare. Am thinking of replacing the cheap electronics at some point but now wondering if I should go active? I have passive (pre) and active EQ (post) on my pre-amp already, would there be any value add in going active?

    Thanks

BTW the OLP is rather good value IMHO. Electrics are a bit flimsy but it's lovely to play, sounds great and is very good looking.

It's difficult because the keyboard is doubling the bassline and mushing it up a bit.

    Who needs tablature eh?
That works. Ta.

Thanks. I'll check it out later.

Mark King seems to like Status basses a lot and I certainly wouldn't argue with him. In fact, I wouldn't mind a KingBass!!
He slaps on Undisclosed Desires but I didn't notice him using the Status for that one at Teignmouth. Was rather distracted by the really odd Keytar thingy Matt Bellamy was using.

  5. I have an Ashdown dual compressor thats the same. Basically it clips if you put something too hot through it. The mods are here on the Ashdown site for those who fancy doing it themselves.

  6. Apologies for the repost but it's buried way down in the Muse thread and it makes me laugh everytime I hear it so thought I would share it more generally. It's a clip from the Radio 1 Muse Night show last Monday. Zane Lowe is treated to a bit of bass in Chris Wolstenholme's bass room in their Lake Como studio. As you would expect, it's rather loud.

    Incredibly loud

Avoid the BDI21. Mine just bricked for no reason.

Check out the Raven. They do great pies!

  9. Hi.

Just come back from playing my new MM3 at reasonable volumes thru my main rig. Noticed that it is very middly. Had to back of the mid range quite a bit to get a reasonable tone. Is that normal behavour or does mine need some attention?

  10.
I play with "free strokes" (as opposed to "rest strokes", which you're describing above) using a floating thumb technique. I prefer it as it minimises string noise and lets you play faster IMO. If you want to stop hitting the string below you really need to look at how the whole finger is moving and modify the whole technique- keeping the same hand position and just trying to reduce follow through will not work IME.
Thanks. Having names for the techniques really helps. Just checked out youtube for floating thumb. Playing later today so will try it out.

  11. Hi,

I have become aware recently that when I pluck a string with my fingers I follow through to the string below (above physically). This is particularly noticeable with the lower strings a it creates an audible thump. Been trying avoid the thump by damping or stopping the follow through. The latter is harder but more pleasing as it results in a clearer note. Was wondering what others do or if there are any tips to avoid the thump...

    Ta
