Hey guys, during a rebuild, I stupidly lost my intonation screws and springs for my A style bridge. I e-mailed Hipshot and got a speedy reply. I was prepared to pay any price but I didn't have to. The parts all arrived from America to N.Ireland today, free of charge. Brilliant service, so I thought I would give them a mention. Regards Michael.

I am looking forward to finishing it and hearing the sound. I really should have done more work with drilling and filing and pickups etc before painting. I have managed to put quite a few scrapes and chips on the paint.

Hey guys, fitting a Delano Pbass pickup at the neck and a Delano MM pickup at the bridge. I want to wire up the same 4 knob passive system as the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram. My first problem is being colour blind 😁 but I get my good lady to tag colours for me. Now the MM wires in the diagram are different to those on the Delano MC 5AL. The Delano has white, green, brown, yellow and a bare wire. I am afraid I don't understand wiring but I can solder and follow "very simple" instructions. Can anyone please tell me what the equivalent Delano colours would go to which terminal or pot etc and give me the 4 knob wiring in the diagram. Thanks Michael.

Sorry guys but I am way out of my depth. I will have to opt for the most basic and simple way to get a 12" and a 5" in one cab. I really enjoy the box building part, but the techy stuff makes me want to slash my wrists.

I would gladly pay upfront for the service if there are any of you basschat guys who would be prepared to build a proper crossover for my project. Just advise me on what speakers to buy to match the appropriate crossover build. I am in Northern Ireland so I will gladly pay for any excessive post and packing and any other costs. Michael

Along with my earlier 2 x 10 build, I built another 1 x 12 cab to the exact specs of my little ashdown cab. Now I am going to finish it and I want to port it with a single 4" round port rather than the slot port, is this feesable? I then found the basschat 1 x 12 build and started following. Could I use the Beyma 12" you guys are using? Rather than a tweeter I want to use a 5" for mids and fit a proper crossover which I thought I could buy of the shelf. (a little knowledge is certainly dangerous..lol) Once again any help would be appreciated. When I started my builds I foolishy thought that you made a box the same size as a commerically built cab, then you could just stick a speaker in and it worked. I didn't realise the science behind it all.

That's so right Stevie. Someone like myself who knows nothing about crossovers and tech stuff, will look at the little cab and think of it's portability, size and looks. if it sounds okay then we are happy, not realising how crap the build is and the use of inferior components. But it is a cheap cab so we can't be too critical. I had two Eden 2x10 xlt and an Eden 1x15 and a WT 550. Great sound but they were so damn heavy . I had a groin hernia repaired 4 weeks ago and I think I know what caused it ..lol Michael

Went to my friends house for a jamming session. Took only the 2 x10 cab. He has a large converted garage and my sound was surprisingly good. We were not playing loudly, no drummer present, and all the guys thought the bass sounded good (maybe they were being kind). The little Ashdown doesn't sound really good on its own, but it adds the needed top end to the new build 2 x10. Overall I am quite pleased. Thanks for all the help guys. Michael

Hey guys, I can't stress enough about sourcing good plywood. I went to my local timber yard and just asked for a sheet of 3/4 plywood. It looked great and even had a really nice grain in the top layer. Later when I inspected along the cuts, I noticed a lot of empty little voids between the plys of timber. Even with good sharp blades in my cutting tools the ply splintered and and some quite large chips came out.

Here we go chaps, the grille is missing cause I have just painted it. I wanted this cab to add a bit of bottom end to the little Ashdown 1x 12. I aslo wanted something to fit into the car and at the same time to match the width of the top cab. It works great and is tighter and punchier than the more bulky 1X15 Ashdown cab I normally use.

My cabinet is finished and I am proud to say it sounds great. Nice and fat and loads of punch and very loud. Unfortunately I had to get my brother to help me to the finish line as I had a groin hernia op 2 weeks ago. Probably caused by lugging 2 Eden xlt 2 x10 cabs around for years. Guys guys guys, everyone take a chill pill. Admittedly I got the stuffing knocked out of me with the first few posts but it isn't worth fighting over. I have since got my mojo back and with the good encouragement I recieved here, the cabinet will make it to the finish line (is that a car analogy?) I really enjoyed the build process so far and I would certainly do it again. Even if it isn't up to the top standard I am going to stand proud and say that I built it. (if it sounds really bad I will say I bought the plans online)

I am just making the best of a bad job and I think everyone knows that . I know what Bill is saying about the box not utilising the full potential of the speakers. If you heard my playing you might be glad about that. We all learn by our mistakes and until I get the funds for a rebuild, then hopefully this cab isn't so bad that I can't use it . The positive here out of this mess, is the experience I have gained on "how not to build a cab" ....... lol

Thanks again guys for the response. I have nothing left to lose with this box so I might as well try to port it. I was going to rear port it so what sizes will I use. One bigger port or two small ones as Stevie recommended . If it is a boomy box I will simply block the rear port holes again . I have a few old 100mm port tubes from previous cabs in my drawer, can I use them?

Thank you Beer of the Bass, at last a bit of optimism. Thanks guys and that's exactly what I have decided to do. It doesn't have to be the best cab in the world and if it adds a bit of support to the Ashdown then that will be fine for now. Loads of guys have built small cabs and against all odds they were pleased. Yes Bill I know I did everything wrong but I have learned my expensive lesson. So the question that remains is, do I port it and what size of port, and if the port makes it boomy I will simply remove it and block the port hole!

Thanks guys. As you rightly say I need the cab to be 8ohms to use both. I thought this size of cab would be nice and compact and I based in on the size of a previous little Hartke 2x10 I previously owned. I will finish the build as I am 99% completed. I even got metal speaker grille cut to size, I will try it as a sealed cab and If it is totally useless I will start a replacement build in the future after the sting of this wrong build wears off. Oh crap!!. Thanks Bill. would the box sound decent if I used it sealed? I can't believe I wasted all that time and money, The current cab sizes work really great to fit in my car and that what I based the sizes on. How much bigger would the cab need to be?

I already have these two Eminence BP 102 - 4 OHM speakers. The dimensions of the cab I built work nicely to stack the little Ashdown. The internal measurements are: H 610mm D 295mm W 355mm some of the specs of the speakers are below, but I dont know if this helps or not. Resonance: 35 Hz Useable freq range : 40Hz - 2KHz Sensitivity ; 92 dB I am afraid that's as far as my ability gets me. I tried using the winsd program to work out what size and length of port I would need, but I am too stupid to work it out for myself. Is there a kind knowledgeable member who would calculate the port dimensions for me.... please please please. Thanks Michael
