Of course you're right Bassassin! I meant the Fujigen Gakki, not Matsumoko. I have a Jazz Bass, that I think is Cimar (Ibanez) that has this MADE IN JAPAN neckplate. and if I remember correctly it was you that told me that it was made by Fujigen Gakki. In fact this Jazz bass isn't that bad. Its under my bed in bits at the moment and has been so for ages. I'm seriously considering selling it.
I'm digging your knowledge of all the lawsuit stuff. I'm really fascinated by it too, having owned two Burny Les Pauls, an Orville Thunderbird, Westone Thunder 1A, Aria B900 and Greco precision in the past. -
I tried the SR505 out again today.. really nice bass. Very impressed with its playability.
-
I'd go for specialist baritone strings - the heavier gauge the better.
Jimmy Saville's radio show every Sunday afternoon while I was growing up while my Mum cooked Sunday lunch.
No wonder I'm f*cked up....
that brings back so many memories for me. Jimmy Saville was wired to the moon, some of the sh*t he used to come out with was total incoherent rubbish... -
I'm looking for a quick sale guys!
Define Quick!
have a bump on me! -
Yeah, i used to have an ESP Viper Baritone. They're great for down tuning. I got mine down to low A and it sound like something from hell. Mine had EMG Zakk Wylde pickups in them and they are monstrous. Make sure you use thick gauge strings for an even bigger tone.
Most of the time I used to tune down a whole step to D. That is every string tuned down a tone. I did the same for C and A as well and just used conventional fretting. There's also many other ways to tune down:
Dropped B: B-F♯-B-E-G♯-C♯
Dropped C: C-G-C-F-A-D
Dropped A: A-D-G-C-E-A -
Don't get me wrong Bassassin, I know how good some of the 80s Jap stuff was, especially makes like Burny, Ibanez and Greco (of which I have owned various guitars and basses) who did really good copies of the classic US guitars (in some cases better than the US). I know that these makes can command a relatively high price and in most cases are well worth it. However, there are some makes (Hondo being the prime example) which were utter gash back then, yet somehow people seem to think that now they are somehow great. If you're a collector, then fine, but if you're a player, then you can get much better quality instruments for the same price.

I'm after an SR505 if anyone is selling one... I've played one in the bass shop in Denmark Street and it was really comfortable. The neck is really nice indeed.
-
I think with the "Made In Japan" plate on the back it was made in the Matsumoko Factory in Japan. This is where the Westones and Aria guitars were made as well as Greco. Could well be an early Greco model.
-
as far as I remember from the 80s all Hondo stuff was pony. I remember their strats appearing in the Freemans catalogue. The Hondos I played in the 80s were always crap - don't know why there is so much interest in them now. Once a crap bass, always a crap bass in my opinion.

I didn't realise that Aria were doing re-issues of their SB range. I had an original SB900 and sold it on here many moons ago...

USA Peavey Wolfgang for Sale.
In good nick, its black, archtop with really nice birdseye maple neck. Has been well played and the neck has a great worn in feel. Comes with original case, factory inspection card, fingerboard protector. Only issue with this is that one of the tuners isn't original.
These ain't being made any more and are rising in price all the time. There's an identical one on Ebay for over £900 at the moment.
£600
these images are identical to my Wolfgang - my camera is playing up at the moment!

MIM Fretless Fender Jazz Bass (lined fretless)
Comes with a shaped hard case, Badass bridge and a pearloid scratchplate (original white one included as well).
No decent pics at the moment but its the one on the far left below:
Will swap for Ibanez SR505 or SR705 -
Anyone Selling an Ibanez SR505 or 705??
I'm looking to buy one of these babies. Let me know if you have.
Cheers.... -
Is this still for sale?
-
Never really got the relic thing.... seems to me people buy it to make them look more interesting than they really are.
-
If you can, go for a B1100s. Its active and the output and sound is really impressive. From memory you can add Fender aftermarket parts no problem. This one here is identical to my old one, except mine was fretless.
Welcome WHUFC, thanks for the Yamaha BB info
No probs, glad to be of service!
can i have your precision?
Thats another one that I've had for a while now and probably won't sell. Its now got a replacement Jazz neck and a Kent Armstrong Vintage Hot pickup in it and it sounds the mutts nuts. They're relatively cheap pickups but they sound 100% better than the stock pickups and really capture the precisions sound.
Good to have a happy Hammer in the club
I'm afraid I'm a born 'n' bred Gooner (and season ticket holder) but West Ham have always been a bit of a second team for me and I have a lot of Hammer friends.
Looks like you need to trade one of those nice Jazzes for a US Standard Strat to me - obviously I'm not simply saying this because I happen to have a new one sitting in my garage that never gets played
Season ticket owner?? That's expensive, think of the great basses you could buy with that. I'm also a season ticket holder but a West Ham ST isn't anywhere near as expensive as an Arsenal ST.
As for the trade, now if it was a Les Paul I'd be interested but single coils just don't do it for me. Sorry. -
Yes, but you may know that us Newcastle fans are hopeless optimists so we'll win the next one..LOL
I think we wrote the book and printed the t-shirts on optimism at West Ham
alrght woodenshirt, I was at the game yesterday and couldn't believe what Fuller did. Really did us a favour though and I think you lost the match because of that. Oh well!
Haven't got the Thunderbirds any more, I sold them to buy guitars (I know - sacrilege). They did sound good though. -
Garageband is a great tool - all this lot on this page was recorded using garageband....

I've never given polls like this any credence. You can't really, what is good for one person my not float another person's boat. I wouldn't let it get to you, I remember a guitarist poll that put Kirk Hammett ahead of Django Reinhardt. Two totally opposite end of the spectrum players who in my opinion would be like comparing apples to oranges.
-
Cheers for the welcome Steve... yes West Ham fan for my sins...I won't mention Newcastle, bit of a sore point at the moment I'd imagine LOL!.
Oh and you're right about the 5-string Corvette. Its the one bass I've vowed never to sell. -
I used to have a Yamaha BB1100s which was fretless in the early 1990s. From memory it had an ash body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and PJ pickup config. Quite a nice bass, used it quite a lot in an originals band I was in. Neck is a slim precision type neck.
-
'allo.
Was on here many moons ago, before it had a face lift. Still playing a bit of bass, but playing a lot more guitar now (sorry.... )
Still got a few basses though. Up until recently this was my arsenal....
