1. Thanks for the replies guys, have to put my hands up here and admit to the old operator error.... Hadn't wound the string round the post properly when restringing, and slackening and redoing it properly seems to have cured the problem. Thanks for the baking soda and superglue trick though, never heard of that so I've learned two new things today! Thanks again,

    Axel

  2. I've just changed the strings on a P bass I have, and switched to flats (it's used solely for Motown) and a heavier gauge. It sounds fantastic, apart from the open A string, which now buzzes against the first fret. It's absolutely fine from the Bb upwards, and I'm fairly sure I can see/hear it hitting the first fret so I'm almost certain it's the first fret that's the problem. I'm guessing that it's the heavier gauge causing the issue - I've tried raising the action with no success, what can I do to solve the problem? Is it a case of needing a new nut? Thanks in advance...

  3. A couple more Jamerson - some with drums and/or rest of the rhythm section

If anyone finds any more keep em coming :)

  4. Sadly I'm being forced to sell more basses, so up for sale is a 3/4 size double bass. I know virtually nothing about double basses, so please excuse the basic info - if anyone can tell any more by looking please chip in, or anyone is more than welcome to come and give it a try, I'm based in Manchester but I can also get it to Stafford/Birmingham/Leicester if that would be easier.

I think it's a laminate, the label inside says 'made in Czechoslovakia' other than that I'm not too sure I'm afraid. It's just back from a local luthier who has given it a full setup, including a brand new bridge, soundpost and set of Tomastik Superflexible steel rope core strings, which has made a huge difference and it sounds and plays beautifully.

She's been well played over the years and isn't the prettiest of things - a previous owner decided to put a sticker on her which has been removed, but it sounds fantastic and would make an ideal instrument for anyone new to upright, or who wants to give DB a go.

Price is £550, including a Ritter padded gig bag for easy transport. Would really need to be collection due to bulk and fragility, though will ship at buyers expense if required. PM is probably easiest form of contact initially, thanks for looking

**Also for sale is a K & K Sounds Double Bass twin pick up system, the Bass Master Pro. Two separate piezo pickup systems with pre-amp allowing you to blend the two signals together as you like. For sale here**

  5. For sale is a K&K Sound Bass Master Pro Double Bass pickup system - it's the best one they do, and consists of a four-head piezo transducer that sit underneath the individual strings, plus a wing-mount piezo pickup. Also comes with a dual channel pre-amp allowing you to blend the two signals together in any combination - a bit like a Jazz bass with bridge and neck pickups, both systems give you different tones, which can then be blended together as you like.

I had to have this shipped over from the States, and I still don't think they're available in this country (correct me if I'm wrong!) so avoid getting stung by import tax as I did.... The website with full technical details etc is K & K Sounds Bass Master Pro

Price is £175 collected from either Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester or London, or will ship at buyers expense (very light so won't be much at all). Comes boxed with manual and special adhesive tape to affix the transducer heads, pre-amp and stereo cable to carry signal from both pickups to pre-amp.

**Also for sale reluctantly is my 3/4 size Double Bass. Details can be found here**

  6. I run a LMII through an Accugroove Tri 112 and absolutely love it. Very tight bottom end and smooth throughout the whole frequency range (4 string). Weight was a major factor for me when I was looking for a cab and I tried the usual list of 1x12s and smaller cabs along with Schroeder before I stumbled across an Accugroove cab which just blew me away. I discovered them about 2 years ago, so after the fuss about the Accu-switch, but from a purely musical point of view I would definately recommend the 112 to anyone. You said you've noticed prices coming down now - where have you seen that? I'd love to add a second for larger gigs, but the prices seem to have shot right up from where they were a couple of years ago...

  7. Haha, I seem to be yet another in the long list of people flogging themselves to death trying to learn this tune with all the incredible little subtleties casually improvised on the fly by Mr Watts.....

Anyway, the most useful YouTuve vid I've found is this one - bass seems to be mixed higher and clearer, plus you can get a better chance of working out the little fills etc from the guys left hand. If anyone hasn't seen Marlowe DK's videos by the way I can highly recommend them - superb player and has helped me out no end with tricky passages of songs I've been trying to learn!

    Anyway, hope this helps...

  8. Hi guys, not really sure which forum to stick this in but as it didn't really seem to fit anywhere else it's gone here...

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of shipping Basses from the UK to Europe (specifically Belgium in this case). There's a few possibilities I've found via a quick Google search, but I was just interested to see if anyone has had a particularly good/bad experience with a company, or can recommend a good safe one. Doesn't need to be lightening quick - just get it there safely! Cheers is advance....
