as a person that does not really know how pickups work, the way I understand it is that at the end of the day you do not chose the pickup based on that. You want pickups that you like the sound of, or people say you'd like the sound of. That's all 😁

Or , further, choose the pickups attached to the bass we like the sound of.
Without even knowing how much the pickups contributed to that sound.

I'm now thinking it looks more like Noel Redding - but he presumably did play in Reading at some point and wasn't part of Hendrix's IoW band 😐

    Correct!

Maybe the original clue alluded more to the Experience.

@Nail Soup - who is it on your shirt? I'd initally assumed it was John Lennon (specs, big nose, surrounded by clouds) but now I'm not so sure. Maybe feed us the original clues...

I can only half-remember one clue... goes something like this: Funnily enough he never played there, just the Isle Of Wight

(NB - that was the clue that made me get it)

    Yeah - do it.

I am a fairly regular commentor too - especially on Lamacq's national anthem slot. Managed to get on Keaveny's Small Claims Court once also 🙂

Ok, so we're boasting about our 6 music achievements now are we? Good, here I go ! 🙂

Couple of comment read out: one Lamaqc (or Lammo as we 6'ers call him 😉) , one Tom Robinson.

Won the Marc Riley "Who's on My T-shirt" a few years ago, including an on air chat with Marc. See picture of the shirt ... can you guess who it is? My favourite band is the Fall so it was big moment for me, but a bit embarassing when he asks who my favourite band is.

Got selected for a feature on Tom Ravenscroft where you pick two songs from a particular year, plus a significant object from that year in your life. On air interview included - pre-recorded though. Both the songs I chose where ones I first heard on John Peel, so was dreading making some clumsy comment/reference about his dad.

(Songs were: "Mind you Own Business by Delta 5, and Heidi's Head by Kleenex)

Love his specialist show, but yes, he has slight Steve Wright in the Afternoon tendencies on his daytime show. Once again, forgiven as the music and guests are great.

Remember that he was involved with the early punk scene, so he does have some music credentials outside funk and soul.

His Trunk of Punk feature is great!

(Trunk of Punk - listener or sometimes a guest chooses 3 punk tracks, daily feature)

t's the only music station I listen to.

(Well, apart from the Radio 2 Folk Show  Presented by... yup. Mark Radcliffe.)

Same for me..... including folk show, plus R2 Blues show ( presented by yup, Cerys Mathews)

Just don't get up early, the bloke on before Lauren Lavern shouldn't even make it to hospital radio.

I guess you're talking about Chris Hawkins.

Yes, he is a bit 'hospital radio', but a lot of listeners eventually warm to him.

I his defence he is a good workhorse for the station, often deputising at short notice for other presenters - and he has a good knack (with a gentle style) as an interviewer.

I can't have been the only one who had to bung 'send my Giro to Cairo' into a search engine to find out who did the original of @Nail Soup's tune. A hidden gem!

Yes indeed it's not very well known, but does deserve the title 'hidden gem'" - if anyone is interested it's "Bloody" by The Golinski Brothers.

But things could be looking up for the song.... my 2021 entry to the December covers competition was Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps. It subsequently went viral in 2022 thanks to the hit Addams Family spin-off 'Wednesday' - so maybe "Bloody" could follow?:

Soon as Ruby Turner got on the mic as was forgiven. Amazing voice. Put all the other singers to shame.

Agreed - show would have been vastly improved by having 100% Ruby-led songs. Although the JH backing vocalist who stepped up for a couple of leads was pretty good too.

  10. I usually stick up for the Hootenanny, but this year was very sub-par. Seems like Jools can no longer attract artists.

I thought Cat Burns would have been good in the context of a normal Later, but didn't really have a 'NYE party' vibe.

Really can't see the appeal of George Ezra .
