  1. If you are sharing the vocal load between the band, one thing you should consider is distributing the vocal part where the instrument is simple.... so if song has a simple guitar part then guitarist sings it. If has a simple bass part then bass player sings it.

Of course won't always work out that way.

  2. Just something that puzzles me, would be interested to hear some discussion and thoughts on it.

Go to a drum tutorial and before long the teacher is teaching how to do rolls etc which are expressed in terms of left and right hand. So a paradiddle is RRLR-LLRL, and another different sounding roll is RRLL-RRLL. Both have the same 'hits' as each other, it's just the handedness that varies.

    So far so good.

So...  in a world with sophisticated drum sounds, multi-layered samples etc why does no drum programming software I've ever seen have the ability to program a 'left hit' and 'right hit'?

  3. Here goes.

My initial thought was remembering back to when I was a child... my friend told me that his parents had told him that they could see him all the time, wherever he was, whatever he did. I told my Mum about it and (looking back) her body language showed no little disapproval at their parenting methods. So it's about the "eye in the sky watching you until you die". The music came naturally but didn't support a full set of lyrics, just the single refrain.

Technotes: Usual suspects... Studio one DAW, MT Power drums (with some tweaks by me), Vantage Avenger bass, Squire Tele guitar, a couple of keyboard settings in Studio One.

It was my 50th birthday party last night so I surprised my guests by playing bass with the band we hired. Their bassist didn't mind stepping down for one, which was just as well because I made him film it.
This is the first time I've played bass in public, with just a quick run through during soundcheck prior to the party starting.

The guy making most of the noise is my twin brother. Also his party. Obviously. 😁

Good Job! Bonus points for all the stop/starts... always a danger point when playing unrehearsed.

And looking like you were enjoying it too!

Are you including Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox in that classification? Coz I think that most of their stuff is pretty good. Some of it is brilliant (their versions of The Final Counrdown, Mr Blue Sky and Wannabe, particularly)

Just checked them out on youtube. They cover stuff from a whole bunch of genres into a single style - so they don't get included. And they sounded OK too.

  6. Going to see The Undertones in Gothenburg on Saturday, supported by Hugh Cornwell and Band.

I've seen the Stranglers a couple of times since Hugh left, but his is the first time to see Hugh solo.

More importantly than the music I'll be visiting my brother (also going to the gig) and his family for the weekend 🙂 .

(OK, I might have lied about something being more important than music 😉)
