I guess it's situation dependent. Can you communicate with whoever is supplying the equipment to see if you can bring your monitoring setup? It might not require that you bring your own desk but I have seen this done before as a last resort. Most rigs at festivals now are digital (I would think) and you may just need to bring transmitters etc.

I run it loose under my shirt to the beltpack. You can also get clips which attach to your collar which helps secure the slack.

This is interesting - a talkback mic would be a good idea but ambient might also work. I pop one earphone out temporarily, even though this isn't really ideal for quick transitions between tunes.

Try this I have used this ( we have 2) with a foot switch (we have 2) which is on between songs. ....for crowd/ ambient...we found 1 was enough because its a shotgun mic

Our Andyjr1515 built this to the same spec as my main gig bass (also built by Andy) as a backup. I've never had to use it in anger though as my other AR bass has been 100% reliable so I've decided to turn it into GAS vouchers 🙂.

Compact, lightweight and a one-off in design terms, this bass is in top condition. Strap balance is perfect and the fast, slim neck makes it a sweet player. Functionally it's hugely versatile thanks to the 3 'lippy' pickups plus 7-way switching* that allows all pickups to be selected individually or in any combination. Each position gives you a distinctly different, totally useable voice, and I use all 7 on gig bas number 1 to suit various numbers in our covers band.

Price includes a mint Gator shell case and a white-pearloid scratch-plate alternative to the ebony one fitted if you want to bling things up a bit. Strings are virtually unused La Bella flats.

I'm happy to meet for mutually convenient handover within an hour's drive from Taunton or pack for shipment provided buyer arranges and pays for delivery.

    * Via 5-way slider switch and push/pull volume knob

Ive now gone over to using IEM 100%, but im the only one that does in my band. Even the singer who has IEM’s doesn’t always use them (mainly because she forgets to charge them).

I never realised just how loud the band is at rehearsals until recently. I took one ear out and was blasted by a wall of sound. We aren't a loud band as such, both guitarists use small 1x12 combos, but the difference was amazing.

We are talking about upgrading the monitors, at the moment they use small cheap boxy sounding things, but IEM’s are a no go with the Jurassic side of the band. I dont care. Im at the back in  my own world and have told them to to just get on with it, it doesn't involve me now. I run the sound as such, but i dont sing so monitoring is down to them to sort out.

Very typical of many bands, particularly if one member tries to fill the venue with there backline.....the best you can do is encourage them to have a hearing test

I came across this video earlier, and found  it quit interesting. Also a very interesting bit at the end about videoing a gig

Excellent, thank you for the link, very useful. We are a 3 piece with silent stage for over 5 years (v'drums, no backline or monitors) Good quality IEM's digital desk to DACS headphone amp, wired to IEMs. each band member controls their mix on iPad or phone...fab quality sound no low level noise & only 0.7ms latency (desk is 96kz).  25 gig and 30 rehearsals a year: our ears are great (all in or 70's) and we are not tired after a gig....many local musicians/bands come and see us, not for the music but for the sound & kit...ha

My 5 piece is wedded to monitors & acoustic drums but they do run the stage as quiet as poss but no where near as good "on any level" as silent stage!....give it a try

  6. Mike, now owns my short scale MM Stingray!!!

As always easy transaction and he traveled to try & collect. We had tea and cake & put the bass world to right!!!!

Mike has over the years been a go to guy for advice, so I'm pleased he has this bass.

Recently Mike did a review of the LFsys Monaco cab, which I acquired & is amazing....check it out

    Thx Mike

The review in the link in the OP makes for impressive reading. Quality for sure. I fear that if I bought this cab, I would end up  wanting the Quilter Amp too…..oh…and maybe another Quilter cab to go underneath! 😃

You might be right.....I've used it with a Demeter, Agular, G&K, Warwick, ...all good but the Quilter bass block fits in the recess!!!!!...ha

  8. My Monaco has just arrived, have only used in my music room, but already found the cab responds to amp/ guitar eq changes clearly & fully. I have been able to get some full/rich bass sounds across the 4 strings...have A B tested with wedge 10" & 12" (both with comp' drivers) the monaco has much deeper accurate & tight bass end!...will need to rehearse to get band feedback & then gig....

The construction is very solid and clearly sealed and very ridged as no buzz etc! the handle is excellent and makes the 15kg very manageable.....  but so far very pleased and confident about gigging.

I have  had many cabs (too many) inc Green boy...this looks as if it might be moving to #1...particularly the price which imo is very reasonable.

Had my first gig with IEM’s last night.
I was worried about not hearing everything but the ambient mic worked really well.
First set I was in heaven. Everything sounded good and that inspired me To play better. Really enjoyed playing.
Second set was not so good. My right one kept coming loose, so I was getting way more drummer in my ear, and loss of

low end in my ears. At one point I took them out and was shocked at how loud the band were (it was ok for this room though).
I’m now 100% converted to IEM’s though. Just need to sort out the ear tips. I do have loads, I just didn't bother taking them.

One issue I had all night, was one of my keyboards sounded distorted in my ears. Not terrible, but ‘hot’. All the levels were fine, I did a PFL on both, so I think it was the fact that I’m using a passive headphone box and had the phones out on the desk maxed out. I’ll go back to my P2 for the next gig.

If anyone is looking for an ambient mic I have one I have tested on BC...thx
