I recently bought a Roth & Junius BSB06 which I'm very happy with.  Quality is great and it fits my large ¾ perfectly.

It replaced my Christopher bag, which is still going strong after 10 years, apart from the anchor point for the back straps.  Zips and everything else is fine - you're welcome to it if you want it.

I think I might go with a BSB06… thanks for the offer of the Christopher… I’ll let Burns Bass have that. Best R

Hi, need to replace my DB bag as the zips are detaching from the material. I understand Soundwear are the top dog, but putting my circa £1k bass in an £800 bag isn’t right (for me). Has anyone got a recommendation at the £200-£300 mark? There’s so many choices out there. I don’t want wheels or a trolley, just the best combination of protection and weight for the buck. My bass is a large 3/4 btw. Thanks R

… and if anyone wants to sell me their old bag I’d be interested.

  4. I bought this on here and have gigged it lightly. I'm sure everyone on this forum knows exactly what it is and what it does. Extremely reliable pup which reproduced the sound of my bass admirably. There is a little discolouration of the copper plate on one side (see pix) but no effect on performance. Postage should be about a fiver I'd imagine. Thanks for looking.

  5. I've also listed this in the DB/EUB section so hope that's OK. Fantastic cab for DB in particular. Compact and reasonably light. I bought it with the EA Doubler also listed here, but have got hold of an AI Doubleshot that I'm going to use with my Clarus ... so suddenly I've got a surfeit of excellent DB amplification. Details of the cab are here: Model:  Acme Low B-1 Series II
Frequency response: +/-3 dB 41Hz to 22 kHz -6 dB at 31 Hz
Power Handling:175 Watts RMS continuous, 150 Watts sine wave @ 30.87 Hz
    Sensitivity: 90 dB 1W/1M
    Impedance: 4 ohms
    Dimensions: 15.75″H x 15.75″W x 13.5″D
    Weight: 31lbs/14.1kg

Happy to post at buyer's expense. Any questions please ask, thanks

  6. I've also listed this in the DB/EUB section so hope that's OK. Bought on here a few months back, but I've got hold of a doubleshot to go with my AI clarus so I suddenly have a surfeit of fine DB amplification. The amp is in fine condition and everything works as it should. Kettle lead included of course, but no original packaging. Happy to post at buyer's cost. You can read a user review here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/euphonic-audio-doubler-ii.1288121/. Short version: EA's trademark 'transparent' sound optimised for DB and electric bass. Plenty of EQ options. £300. Any questions please ask, thanks.

  7. Bought this on here with a lovely EA Doubler amp, but have subsequently got hold of a doubleshot to go with my AI Clarus.  Fantastic sounding cab for acoustic bass in particular. Details here:

Model:  Acme Low B-1 Series II
Frequency response: +/-3 dB 41Hz to 22 kHz -6 dB at 31 Hz
Power Handling:175 Watts RMS continuous, 150 Watts sine wave @ 30.87 Hz

Happy to post at buyer's expense and if you want the amp and the cab, I'm sure we can work out a deal. Thanks.

  8. I bought this a few months ago on here to amplify my double bass. It's sensational - EA's trademark transparent sound with plenty of EQ options - but a week ago I was offered an Acoustic Image Doubleshot and I've decided to pair that with my AI Clarus for DB amplification. As a result this - and the Acme Low B series II cab I bought with it - are up for sale. I believe (as far as I can tell from reading descriptions online) this is the series 2 version of the Doubler. I'm sure most people here know exactly what it is - great, transparent sound for DB and electric bass. There's a review by a Talk Bass user here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/euphonic-audio-doubler-ii.1288121/

  9. My double bass tutor has decided to return to fulltime study and I'd love to find someone else who I can either visit or who comes to my place (TA11 7DT). I realise there are plenty of people who will teach online, but in my experience nothing beats a face-to-face lesson. The double bass 'scene' in this part of the world is pretty small so I can't think of anyone obvious, but if there's a teacher out there who's up for in-person lessons I'd be very glad to hear from them. Thanks, Richard

Perhaps this is more trouble than it’s worth, but can I mix signals from a Full Circle and a Schertler Stat B? I have an EA Doubler which has both channels active simultaneously (as I understand it) so it feels possible. But I don’t quite understand which inputs I’d use. Full Circle in high impedance presumably, but would Schertler be ok in low? Thanks

… or would both pups need to go into a splitter then into the same amp input?

I got all four of cookin, relaxin, workin and steamin' on a double CD at HMV for £6 !!!

.. all a bit samey but a few standout tracks ("Four" being something I play wit' band). Paul Chambers great as ever.

That’s a bargain. Chambers seems like such an enigma…. I love the anecdote about how the music would sometimes bring him to tears.

If you're playing jazz, I reckon that listening to when Paul Chambers changes between two-feel and walking on albums like Relaxin', Steamin', Cookin' etc is a great starting point, as these are pretty close to being "canonical" small-band jazz recordings.

Although it sounds slightly counterintutive (less notes, so must be easier, right?), two-feel can often be harder than walking as well (which might be another reason why you prefer to walk).

In general it's a good skill to be able to switch between the two at will over any particular tune, particularly because when you're playing with other people switching might be the most appropriate choice.

Great advice… I’ll dig out those albums.

I agree completely except the "wearing on the fingers" bit - I find that playing root/fifth two-feel stuff is harder on the hands than walking. Something about shifting position and fingers more frequently means that I'm less likely to "cramp up"....

Something I'm struggling with is when to use a two feel and when to walk. When I got a grasp of walking I tended to see everything as a chance to walk ... until my teacher reigned me in. He suggested a two feel is often more appropriate for ballads for example. I guess it's often the case when you're learning an instrument - the tendency to paint every inch of the canvas because you can. All part of the fascination of learning...

    Amen brother, me too!

Me too…. But the ‘easy’ options sound great. And to be fair the number of people in the audience thinking ‘he’s leaning on root five a bit heavily’ is likely to be minute (unless you’re at a jazz club or a double bass convention I guess). Not that I don’t want to progress, perform chord subs on the fly etc, but I think one of the wonderful things about DB is that simple lines played in the pocket sound so damn good.
