Its pretty decent too. May be the answer to all your prayers. Its one of these additional bits of software they ship with all their new PTS versions but its here for all the folk who bought an older version.

  2. Value is only relevant to an individual person.

It is only what you are willing to pay for it. "vinrage gear prices being over the top" is a subjective opinion (and one you are entitled to).

  3. Second piece of gear from the top.

Been used in my studio rack so light use from me. Been looked aftre all its life, usual rack marks but fully functioning. Works brilliant on bass (especialy the comp and gate with noisy fx). Also has de-esser for vocals and a low shelf filter (below 80hz) which helps tighten bass sounds up a little.

Seem to go for about £160 plus shipping new so around £110 sounds fair. Postage included.

  4. Here is my studio:

Although now bass its porn all the same to me.

    In the rack:

    TC M One FX Processor
    DBX 286a Channel Strip
    M Audio 1814 Sound Crad
    USB HUB/160GB Hard Dribe
Behringer Patch Bay (so everything stays nice and neat)
H/H Power amp to power the Tannoy Resolve Speakers

    Stuff not pictured:

    Zoom 1201 multi FX
    Rode NTK Valve mic
    Mixture of SM58/SM57's

The Mac is a Macbook 2.0Ghz Dual Core with a GB Ram running Pro Tools 7 and Logic Express as well as Reason 3. Just bought the Waves Native Power Pack bundle.

  5. Custom Fender Jazz (John east - was a Geddy Lee)

And its full build diary here:

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17

    And the Rig:

Ampeg SVP Pro Pre Amp, QSC 1405 Power amp and a Hartke 410 xl Cab. Would like a 210xl cab to go with this. The Rack weighs a lot but i sounds MASSIVE!

  6. DI out back of ampeg with something close to the cone (usually a D112) and something a bit further back (condensor, usuallt a 414 or Nuemann if i am lucky enough to have one) for a fuller roomier sound.

These are mixed and brought up at differant levels for differant tracks to suit. If a slap part or melody or whatever kicks in the di goes up and the room comes down and if its just beef i am after vice versa.

Generally for demo's and quick stuff i just DI for simplicity.

So, when did you say this was happenning, Gary? Seems to be taking an awfully long time for a 30 second job.
It's on our to-do list.

    G

ps - Garry, not Gary, it right there on my forum name :)

  9. I want to be good enough to never turn a gig down. Guys like tony levin and other rock solid groovers are who i aspire to be like.

John Myung, Vic Wooten (his choppy stuff) and the other dudes are amazing but not really where i see myself going.

I think everyone has their own situation and if:
I'm honest with myself, I don't really aspire to it. I'm happy just fumbling away on a Saturday night and going home with £60 in my back pocket stinking of smoke.
Makes you happy then you have won already.

    G

    ps - great post

  10.

That is awesome.

I suspect you could give marcus miller any plank and he would make it sound awesome though.

You wonder how much all those tiny tweaks made a difference. I suspect in all a little but not a HUGE amount.

    G
Yeah but if Fender asked what you wanted, like anything, you'd have a fiddle with all that stuff and try the wierd and different, wouldn't you?
Totally :)

  11. Essentially for full protection there are 4 options of cases going up in cost: Gigbags+case; Moulded plastic cases; Wood/aluminium flight cases; Military Hardware cases.

    Gigbags:
Ritter - good quality, do a range of sizes so something usually fits
Warwick - as above, but less 'features' (phone pockets etc.)
Overwater leather - nice but very expensive at £200
Harvest leather - probably where Overwater source theirs from, £15 cheaper, but increased postage

Gig bags can be put in other cases such as the specifically designed SKB BassSafe if going on a plane that will offer a good amount of protection too.

    Hard/semi plastic cases:
INCASE - from the states, consdered the best thing between a hard and soft case on TalkBass, they have no UK distribution and only use expensive shipping so Bleedproof was looking at getting a large order together, but that's not been mentioned in a while.
Hiscox - great UK manufacture, my personal preferance.

    Military hardware cases:
Google explorer or pelican cases. Made from high strength plastics, these are very expensive but can be made air tight and will take any punishment and are usualy lighter that a flight case

I asked a similar question on BT a few weeks ago, these were the responses:

nice one dave, i have made this a sticky in the equipment forums.

  13. Got a super cheap geddy lee jazz. Liked it but, like most fenders, knew it had more to offer than it was giving.

Aesthetically wanted to change it too.

A tonne of hard work, sand paper and dust later and its all done and is awesome.

    Would do it again.

  14.
Maybe they're both on it.
Thats the only possibility i have to outright disagree with. I just listened to it a few times just now, it sounds like the same player and gear through the whole tune. After the vocals the bass is next in the mix volume wise. It would stick out like a sore thumb is it was spliced with another player (think the last Jamiroquai album where three bass players were used on one track along).

On such a concentrative listen i did pick out a sloppy bit though :)

Check out the transition at 1.34 - sounds like a nasty old school edit in the guitar (especially) and drum part (which i think is bang on).

    I await the flameing

I dont know C Kays playing well enough to decide for myself for sure but what an awesome thread.
