  1. I would start by learning the major scale and then the modes associated with that scale. I seem to have subconsciously ordered my practice as learning one mode per session, find as many different positions to play it in, then learn the triad of that mode followed by the arpeggio. The next time I practice I have a quick run through anything i did last time to make sure its stuck and then move on to the next mode. I found this really helped me understanding what notes work over/under different chords. Understanding the numbers system for chord progressions really helped me too. I like to make sure I think about what the next note in the scale/mode is as well rather than learning the pattern. I've found i can navigate my way around the fret board with more confidence and less thought now, freeing up my brain to concentrate on other tasks such a breathing, standing up and not dribbling.
  2. My pair, the red one (midnight wine technically) has been my main bass for about 15 years now. It's an MIM body with as far as i remember a WD music neck, its a fair bit chunkier than a standard jazz neck, more like P Bass. In its current configuration It's got EMG JVX pickups and a J-Retro. To me it sounds amazing and although I've had a few dozen Basses over the years it is always the one I come back to, just feels like home. The other is Squier deluxe active 5 that i defretted not long after i got it, currently awaiting some epoxy to redo the fret board. fitted EMG pickups to this as well, they were originally in the red one, the original pickups were horrible. Plays well and has plenty of mwah to it.
  3. Hi all, bit of a re introduction (kind of) used to be on bassworld many, many moons ago. I've been playing bass about 15 years, Started in a Metalica covers band and the last band I was in was a twelve piece folk setup. Currently I'm not understanding jazz very well, I haven't progressed enough to not understand it all but I'm getting there. Furloughed at the moment so I've spent the time constructively by blinging my bitsa jazz bass up. Anyhoo I shall be around, mainly lurking Dan
