If I'd been there I would have gone to see QOTSA. I'd have been extremely satisfied with that decision. They were fantastic 🙂

I'm looking forward to catching up with that set. Sounds like they're on top form at the moment.

  2. The band- bunch of mates with wildly differing abilities (I was least talented by miles) and varied musical tastes

The set- versions of mostly rock songs "made funky"

The venue- underneath a pub on what I think was an industrial estate

The gig - a friend of a friend's birthday party?

The drinks - there were many before, during and after the gig.

Fun, yes. High quality musical performance? Hmm

Edit- I forgot to mention, I think it was around Christmas so we all dressed as elves.

  3. In my opinion, two excellent points have been raised above.

1- If equal effort is put in then equal pay seems fair. However work such as writing, arranging, management, booking, equipment, transport etc is often unequal in my experience.

2- Openness. Full transparency about who is paid what and why seems like the adult, mature thing to do.

  4. (Opinion disclaimer) I have had a C4 from their diamond series with EMG pickups for more than 15 years. I really like it, it's my main instrument and I've played in a few bands of differing styles during that time.

This bass is currently in stock.

I ordered one last week and it arrived here this week.
I'm seriously impressed with this instrument for its price (~£177).
The only tweak I've made is to switch the way too floppy .084 low E for a .100 actual bass string I had in my parts box.
I've not had to adjust anything other than intonating it- The truss rod, string height and nut are all just fine out of the box!

EDIT: I have had to file the nut slots a little

Looks great. Any chance of some sound clips?

  6. All my nerves relate to logistics and transport. Double checking gear, route,  parking, load in, times etc.

This has led to a very small, simple rig. Less to carry when there's no parking closer by and less to break at the worst possible moment.

.... we've done  a few gigs with at least 1 of them missing. We don't have a drummer anyway and the band can adapt without either lead guitar, banjo or bass if necessary as the 2 singers who play guitar and harp can carry the rest.

In my view this is a great situation/solution. Do the gig with people who are available. I would love for this to have been the case in some of my previous bands.

Gives the audience more variety as they'll hear different arrangements too.

    Edit for spelling

  8. I've been exclusively playing a 4 string in standard tuning for ages after moving from a 5 string. The bass has an Xtender on it but I haven't used it for years.

Last week I was writing with the guitarist in our band and we realised we needed to move to drop d. Having the xtender is going to be so useful at gigs for this one song.

Edit. Wow, what a thread revival!

  9. I use something like this for a little lift and a little tilt. Folds down into a smallish shape too. And I put a micro amp head on top no bother.

Not sure if it's just in my head but it does seem to help with hearing myself on a loud stage.
