1.
Its that time of year again folks when I get to dep with one of the north east's hardest working rock covers bands.

    I'll be playing the following gigs next weekend;

Fri 31-Aug-07 Washington Football Club, Washington, Tyne & Wear
Sat 01-Sep-07 The Pheonix, Cramlington, Northumberland
Sun 02-Sep-07 Harleys Bar, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear

If any basschatters are in the vacinity, come and say hi
Three days in a row? Ouch. What's the band called? Got a web link pls?

  2.
I have just started playing bass semi voluntarily (friends need a bassplayer and I inherited and old Tanglewood rebel that needed repair) but am finding I am really enjoying it.
Haha, it's a familiar tale... Welcome to the low end, it's less hassle than guitar and more enjoyable!

  3.
I keep checking out Nitrotone's stock on ebay. They have a few real nice looking tribute JB2s and SB2s. $60 shipping to the UK makes them all the more alluring

btw your Tribute L2K looks great.

Defo worth it with the £ against the $ so strong.

  4.
Wow!! Very nice. So many G&L's on this forum. I think the blueburst is one of the best colour choices.
How does it play and sound in comparison with your USA L2500?
How long did it take to arrive, and who handled the import paperwork and taxes etc?
    Nice score. :)

It's got the same quality feel and punchy sound. It feels nice and new, whereas the 5er feels like a comfy old pair of shoes. But straight out of the box, the action was lovely, really playable. It's got a heavyweight feel thanks to the ash but you don't get the birds eye maple that you do on the US models. Gig bag is top notch too - really thick with G&L logo on. Definitely playing it at the next gig. The bass that is - rather than the gig bag....

Bought it from Nitrotone Music on Ebay for $499.00 (got him to price match another guy selling in Oklahoma). Cost $60 to ship via USPS Global Priority (he sorted - that's a really good price). Came out at £280. Then when it arrived, Parcelforce sent me a letter and I went and paid the VAT, import duty and their handling fee which, all up, was £70. Sometimes they don't bill you apparently, sometimes they do. I was advised to always factor it into the cost of anything imported. Took about a week to arrive.

In short, no more difficult that mail ordering it over here - but a hell of a lot cheaper. The guy who runs Nitrotone music is called Roger and is really friendly to deal with and easy going about shipping to the UK.

Edit: should add that it arrived with a sizeable ding in the back (about size of a 5p) as a result of transatlantic shipping in a gig bag and cardboard box. It's no massive big deal but would defo buy a hard case next time and ask it to be shipped in that.

  5. Fresh in from the States, my new G&L L2000 Tribute.

Blueburst on swamp ash, rosewood neck and the US G&L p/ups and electrics. Fit and finish is great, no rough edges and feels really playable. Raspy Musicman tone easily gettable but you can dial up loads of different sounds using the tri-tone electrics. Only the smaller tuners and neck wood (bit blonde and new looking) give it away as a Tribute rather than a new full price US model. That said, these basses normally go for about £550+ new in the UK, so it should be well made! Landed it, inc all taxes, from the US for £350.

  6.
Considering Flea grew up playing Jazz i doubt that! I think hes one of the best bassists about...hes been a huge influence on me! And its nice to see a decent bassist that doesnt just stand by his amp all the way through a show!
+1 to all that. He just needs to take his foot off the gas sometimes and let the songs breathe a bit.

  7.
John Frusciante was really pissed of from the beginning of the show because there was a problem with his pedal board. They had to stop and restart Can't Stop twice!
That'll learn him for having 1500 pedals!

  8. Just watched a bit of the Chilis headlining Reading Fest tonight and boy was Flea on a widdle-fest. Don't get me wrong, I think he's one of the best modern bass players out there, but he was doing more filling tonight than a second hand car dealer who'd had a delivery from the auctions. Every bar there was a flurry of notes. It's a shame, cos when he holds back, his fills are great.

    Anyone else see it?

  9. Guilty.

It's all part of the fun of playing as a hobby though. I try to spend only gig money that I stash away, meaning it's funded by playing and I sort of work on a "1-in, 1-out" rule (I've just broken it - see below). Trouble is, like most people, I can't resist a bargain or the thrill of the chase. This site is fatal for that.

ps Talking of which, will be posting up pics of my new G&L Trib L2000 soon. Fresh in from the States. It's a beauty!

  10. I don't think it makes a massive difference to the sound. They'll be much better for your back however. I couldn't cope without my wheels.

  11.
I currently have a Trace Elliot 7215 combo (300W 1 x 15). I'm convinced that it is not as loud as it used to be.
That'll be you going deaf!

Sure others will have better advice than me on the amp front. But a mate's got an Eden Nemesis 4x10 combo that he's really pleased with. That's pretty light and compact for a 4x10. About £700 I think.

  12.
Well, I finally acquired a G&L ASAT - very pleased. :) Then couldn't resist the L2500.
You bought one, and then another to keep it company - I like your style! They're great basses aren't they? So well made and comfortable to play. You gonna spill the beans about how much they cost?

  13.
...the bass guy said that whoever gets to play bass for The Spice Girls reunion tour would get £100,000 a week, A WEEK!!!!!
Try lopping a couple of noughts off the end, and that's probably more like it. I'm guessing the bass player in that band's going to be pretty far down the food chain. That said, Posh doesn't look like she eats much, so at least they'll be leftovers at the backstage buffet.

  14.
Did you get the free Zon bass for all those who registered before 19th August?? :)
You got a Zon? How come I only got an Alembic?
