1.
Rack preamp and lightweight power amp? ticks the boxes, you can lose the power amp if you don't need.
Any suggestions? And it needs to either be light and small or obscenely light and not massive.

  2. All the non-MXR (which is what matters) demos I have heard sound really dry and thin. I dunno if that's just bad camera quality, but it's a pretty a consistent problem. I'll check one out in a shop at some point.

Oh and could I use the distortion mode on an OC3 to achieve the same kind of sound?

  3.
You ultimately want a Sovtek Big Muff. Other obvious choices are the Way Huge Swollen Pickle, Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie 'B', Fuzzrocious Green Stache, or the EHX Bass Big Muff. But the recent EHX box is the last one I'd consider.

I snipped your budget out of your post because if it's that green Muff sound you want, your budget becomes fairly irrelevant given that only the EHX Bass Big Muff would turn up in your price bracket. Incidentally out of those pedals above the Pickle Pie 'B' and the EHX Bass Muff have blend knobs, the others don't. I can also vouch for the Pickle Pie 'B' being a bloody wonderful Muff-a-like and the blend on it works great. But if you have to order one expect delays - I don't think Matt is all that into making pedals full-time. But he does do quality work.
Are you referring to the EHX Bass Big Muff Pi? Cos I see no blend knob on that. And where can I get the Pickle Pie B off the internet?

  4.
I don't get it until after the Bank Holiday weekend (next week) and that is all being good with the shipments etc. I will definitely do a review though.
Ah OK. I'm waiting for it :)

  5. My band is pretty good, our drummer is fairly passive and gets "suggestions" of what to play by me, but the writing is done equally by me and the guitarist. Our new guitarist is female, and hence obscenely productive, so it looks like we'll then have a 3-way creative mix. Looking good, I'm the death metal guy, the male guitarist is the power metal guy, and the new guitarist likes the more poppy side of things. We'll keep it ridiculous :)

  6. Well, they gave you a reason. It seems... true, if not full. Good that you signed off nicely, and that you told them they were right etc. It may have been personal, I didn't get that impression from the emails but then again I didn't know the people IRL. Good luck with the other projects mate :)

  7. I just bought a Bad Monkey off my mate, you can get great tones out of it, if you turn down the gain it's nice and subtle, but crank the treble and gain and it's essentially a distortion. I use mine for THRASH MODE!

  8. So wait- I have a head that is:
    700W @ 2 ohms, 475W @ 4 ohms, or 275W @ 8 ohms

    a 410 that is:
4 ohms. 350 Watts RMS continuous

    and a 115 that is:
4 ohms. 400 Watts RMS continuous

is this good/bad? am i using this efficiently? when talking to my guitarist, should i say i have a "475W rig"?

  9.
It does... sooooooo smooth

Come to the Harlequin on Nursery Street August 1st and have a listen, nahh bugger that you can play :)
Damn! I'm at Sonisphere...
