You keep your slippers on the mantelpiece?

What are 'slippers' anyway? And what's a 'mantelpiece'?
No I don't. They're on the floor beside the pipe, which is on the mantelpiece.

    Speak for yourself LOLOL
Actually, I don't find him irritating; I've lived with much worse! We're both pretty laid back and easygoing
Honestly, laid back and easygoing people are the type that get on my nerves the most! My mum is like that (well apart from if you spill the wine, then she totally flips out) and the guitarist in my band as well. Just irritates the hell out of me.

Yes, I've heard your neighbors complain
Well the neighbour has the most irritating dog who she seems to see fit to let out into the garden every 15 minutes between 10 and 11 at night and 7 and 8 in the morning. Also she sold her house in May and she still hasn't moved out!

It's mainly his pipe smoke they object to.
Well if they let me smoke weed I would do that instead. But for now, it's the old pipe, right beside my slippers on the mantelpiece ;)

That's very sweet of you to say, but somehow I don't think he considers himself lucky. LOL! I do have my faults! I'm sure he could make a long list. :)
Well let's face it, everyone is irritating after you get to know them, in some ways. It's just about finding the person who irritates you the least :)

I don't like long fingernails either, but that's probably because I've played guitar since I was a teenager and they interfere in the playing (for me). I never understood taking so much time to make fingernails long and painted or painting toenails. But then, I was raised with only brothers. I tend to be feminine in other ways and would rather spend my time pleasing my partner, making sure he's well taken care of, etc... Don't mind dressing up, but I'm not one to have a ton of clothes, shoes, nor matching handbag. I'm practical. Maybe that's why my guy married me..... haha... didn't even want a diamond ring....

    Lucky man!

  5. So bought pretty much all the crap I need to build this, apart from the grille and foam. This is what I will be covering it with:

    http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1497.l2649

slightly worrying that they missed out the first "c"; let's hope their product is a bit better than their spelling

Also the bad news is that the crossover/input panel unit is going to take 2 to 3 weeks to get to the store, so it will be a bit of a wait until I can get it complete. The speakers should be here tomorrow though.

  6. I don't know. I think drumming would probably be regarded as less "girly" (whatever that means). I personally think girls who play the bass are fantastic; can't stand those ridiculously long fingernails or anything. It's all just crap really, let's face it though, this is not the first band ever to be obsessed with their image. They even admit in their ad they are more bothered about getting famous than actually playing music they like. Well good luck to them.

  7. Ok so I decided to buy a pair of these:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400306700925?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Not particularly because they're neo (this is going to be a hell of a heavy cab whatever speakers it has in it!) but simply because it had the right sort of specs in terms of freqency response (I would have ideally liked a bit more low end but you can't win them all), impedance and sensitivity. And of course price lol.

Nice one Edward, this is on my 'to do' list.
I will be watching and learning
    What drivers are you using?
No idea lol. I thought I would just get the cab done first and then worry about drivers. Probably something that is similar in specification to my existing speakers though.

Apparently you're better off stacking the cones rather than placing them side by side. Supposed to give better somethingorother.
Yeah, I did say I was going to mount it vertically in a "traffic light" configuration. It's basically just to do with the way it spreads around a room; if you have horizontal speakers, they interfere with each other, giving "dead spots" where the sound isn't as loud at certain angles around the cab.

Your plans inspire more confidence than my last build which were sketched on a small piece of paper... Good luck :)
Thanks. Yep, just decided to go for it this time, no pissing about.

Any "before" pictures, to complete the transformation? Looks very nice :)
I think the first pic with the black knobs was the "before" pic. I must say I do think the EMG knobs are pretty rubbish quality. They're like the cheapest knobs you could possibly get just so they can go "oh well it is everything you need!"

Hmmm, different beasts though aren't they. A 40w 1x12 valve guitar combo is easily loud enough for the majority of gigs, whereas a bass head and cab of similar spec just wouldn't compete.
No, but I would hardly say you need an 8x10 to compete, either. A 2x10 combo is fine to compete against this sort of guitar amp. Works for me during practice.

  12. Bit bored so I decided to build another 2x10 bass cab. I built one in year 12 but that didn't turn out as well as I wanted (got a U for AS level Product Design lol) so I am going to do another one. Before, I was just pretty much making up as I went along. This time however I have reverse-engineered my existing bass cab; an Eden Metro, except without the top section where the amplifier sits. Also, the measurements will be slightly off, given that I'm building in mm and the cab would have been done in inches and also due to the carpet, which will add a little to the thickness of the plywood layer when measuring. I am planning on having this sit in a vertical position, above my existing combo.

Here is a model I made on solidworks, using the same measurements I am going to build the actual cab out of.

I made this view of all the parts so I would remember what size all the panels are and whereabouts I should cut them out of the wood. The 3 big rectangles correspond to the size of the plywood sheets I have. The left 2 are both 5'x2' and 18 mm thick and the right one is 3'x4' and 15 mm. I have already got the wood:

Hope to make a bit more of a start on this tomorrow.

I think im "bass deaf".. I can shake a pubs windows out and i still can't hear myself??
No-one can ever hear themselves in the band. You can always hear everyone else perfectly well, just not yourself.

I can't say I have ever had this problem, but then again I have always had fantastic pitch perception so there you go.

It's not the krist signature. That has a smaller headstock. Mine was a standard RD. Sold it a while ago on ebay to Chris fom Muse.

    Chris Walthamstow?

The Behringer headphone amp works for me... and relatively inexpensive, with passthrough for the monitors and 4 headphone outs with a volume control for each...
Thanks for the suggestion. Too late though, I have already bought a monitor controller (see post #16)

  16. I didn't think the bass unit sounded too bad when shoved through the mixer output but I think really you don't have quite as much flexibility in terms of DIing a guitar sound like you do with a bass.

  17.
Why buy a mixer? If you prefer quality over features go for a small recording interface. Which one you go for is dependent on budget and channels needed.

In respect of the effects you mentioned, better to use the once in your software/DAW. They are likely to be of better quality than anything in a mixer
+1. I have never felt the need for a mixer- after all, cakewalk has a nice mixer built straight on to the interface! 2 monitors, one for the console and effects (when needed) and the other for track view. Sorted.
