I enjoy some of the AI descriptions that are appearing on eBay recently, For example, "whether you're a beginner or a seasoned professional, this bass is sure to tick all the boxes" (a genuine word-for-word quote from one particularly desperate listing).

I can't give any advice as to the best place for selling gear (though I have bought an item on Basschat with no problems), but I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and would like to wish you the best.

One of the shops local to me, Matchetts, is actually quite competitive with the other online retailers when it comes to price (they do have online shopping too, which can be handy for click and collect). but they do offer a lot of other services too. They have instructional sessions, where you can book in and they will show you basic set-up techniques, for example; how to change strings, tune up, check the action and so on. They had a guy in from D'Addario a while back to demonstrate the new Xpand pedal board. I got a free t-shirt and won a tuning pedal. I had a guitar lesson last week and my tutor had bought a new PRS guitar and asked if I wanted to try it. I gave him my Ibanez and he was raving about the set up on it. I'd done nothing to the set-up; that was all down to the guys in the shop. He liked it so much that he wants to borrow it to make some videos for his business social media accounts.

😁Deep Purple's guitarist, Simon McBride lived at the bottom of my street. I don’t think I ever met him as he's about 5 years younger than me, but I do remember when he won the Young Guitarist of the Year competition. Does that count?

I think I've seen James Hetfield use one for songs where he switches between electric and acoustic.

I was in that ballpark before I retired. Unless I'm stupid, I've got enough to keep me in reasonable comfort until I drop off my perch without having to mime to my latest release on This Morning, or cut the ribbon at a new branch of HMV.
Have it been in my twenties then it would have been a tempting dream, but now I'm in the Victor Meldrew phase of my life it'd be a blooming nightmare. I'd tell them to do what they want with the recording and give the royalties to charity.
A new branch of HMV? You really must think it's still 1987. 😄

Back in the early 90s I was playing geetar in a band doing primarily originals but going through that difficult period of realising that our original material wasn't going down well with the venues we played. We decided to add more appropriate covers (which meant the more accessible proggy stuff) and to find a dedicated singer, as out keyboard player was currently singing. The drummer and I were in a night club (a rare event but it played mainly the rock end of pop music) and I got talking to this young girl who, when she found out I was in a band looking for a singer, proclaimed that she could sing and wanted to be out new front person. Her first audition was outside the nightclub, where she performed 'Wuthering Heights', complete with rather enticing dance moves. She wasn't bad and both the drummer and I thought she deserved a decent audition with the rest of the band.
A couple of weeks later we picked her up from the corner of her street in the band van and headed off to the rehearsal studio where we went through a few covers and while she could keep a tune, her voice wasn't versatile enough. Had we been a Kate Bush tribute act, she may just have scraped through with some work but as it was her voice was quite thin and she didn't seem to have the self confidence needed for a front person. We dropped her back off on the corner of her street with the intention of having a second go with some originals.
Imagine my surprise when, on the way to work a couple of days later, I saw our potential singer in her school uniform looking every bit the 14 or 15 year old she actually was. Many things went through my head, mostly involving irate parents, irate policemen and relief that nothing ungentlemanly had happened. Needless to say, we didn't keep in contact.
That's very Diane and Rent Boy in "Trainspotting" 😄

You'll have to be VERY careful with your costume choices if you go for the latter.
Could end up looking a right tit... or was it the left one?

I'm a worship leader at a Baptist Church and I love METAL !! 🤘🏼
Counter their scribble with Psalm 33:1-3....
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.I've just had a look on Lyrechat.co.uk and they say that 10 stringed lyres are an abomination; that 8 strings are more than enough.

I don't think I'd fancy being in a functions/wedding band. Session musician I might be able to do. If I were to be a pro it would have to be in an originals band.

The London Bar. We were in it about 18 years ago. There was a band playing and in the local accent, they sang Moostahng Sallee. It's a cracking bar, though.

Bombay Bicycle Club in the Telegraph Building, Belfast. They were fantastic. Great sound, good light show and a brilliant performance.
