  1. So, is it not a question of a Fedora being a superior bass, but whether it's THAT superior (reflected by the price)
  2. Just had a look. A few models look really nice, but most look horrible to me
  3. I'll come straight out with it -I cannot pick up a p-Bass looking bass and try it. The style just doesn't inspire me, despite knowing there are some top-notch ones. However THIS Base really makes me want to pick it up. Do you have bass prejudice too?
  4. I'm liking the look of those Mayones
  5. Yep, that's fair. It was just my perception, which I have now learnt not to be true. You see, we didn't have Forums like this back i my day to discuss this kind of thing! LOL
  6. My only complaint with my Vigier is the buzzy electronics -touching a string or jack sockets etc. I remember back in the day when I was in a studio recording, the engineers found it a bit of a problem and one one or two occasions I had to use an Aria Pro 2 instead!
  7. OK, thanks everyone. Bolt-ons are not inferior....but through necks DO look like a nicer piece of craftsmanship
  8. Thanks guys. There are some really nice looking designs from brands new to me. I shall check 'em out
  9. Ah excellent. Thank you
  10. Back in the 80s when I was an active bass player always looking for top quality basses and associated gear, the Bass Center was THE place to go. Lots of lovely top drawer stuff at the time like Status (new at the time), Wal, Alembic, Trace Elliot etc Looking at The Bass Center's web site it seems to just feature P-basses and the like now. (not having a go a P-bases, just more interested in less run-of-the-mill stuff) Which is THE place to go now for top brands, custom brands, slightly unusual brands?
  11. So, how come Vigier moved to bolt-on necks. Is it a cost efficiency thing?
  12. Better craftmanship is how perceive basses with through necks too
  13. BTW - I MUCH prefer the shape of mine to the later models...they seem to round everything off a bit too much
  14. Ped Thanks for that. It's at a local luthiers at the moment having it checked out, and to have the electronics looked at as the active circuity has gone weird -distorted, buzzing and clicking etc. Something's wrong with it, so hopefully he can sort it. I bought it from a shop in Bingley, Yorkshire. They had a black and chrome one in the shop and I opted for the optional extra of gold metalwork. I remember it cost around £900.00 back in 84/85 Itu You're right, it is a lovely bass, but things move on over a 25 year period and I'm wondering if there's something nicer out there.
  15. Been off the bass playing scene for quite some time. Now I'm back playing a little, I like the idea of a brand new top quality bass. So, what's the deal with through necks and bolt-ons? Back in my day bolt-ons where a poor man's through neck, but I've just been looking at the ACG basses and they are bolt-ons.
  16. I bought a Vigier Arpege bass guitar in around 1984/5. Played it for about 8 years and has been hibernating for about 25 years!..until very recently. It has a through timber neck with brass inlays down its length. It's a lovely bass (apart from slightly buzzy electronics) Anyone know which series it is -perhaps 1 or 2 (I can't remember)?
