Maybe those with John East pre-amps can help. I want to fit an East preamp into my Fender Marcus but I am not sure which one will work well. I think the factory preamp sounds a bit bland and I was looking for something with a bit more thud and crisp. Excuse my choice of words....

[/quote] I am only venturing into double bass myself so my opinion may count for nothing but I would recommend Markbass. I was at a gig where the bassist was using a Markbass and it sounded sweet. Marcus Miller cites Verdine as one of his inspirations and its not hard to see why. Tracks like Fantasy, Boogie Wonderland, Fall in Love (With Me) are bass masterclasses. For me personally, he is one of the very best. I remember a story about when they started and Quincy Jones (who I reckon produced some of their early stuff) didnt want Verdine on bass because he was too young but after listening to him was convinced that he was the man for the bass chair. (I stand corrected) Here is one of my favorite Earth Wind and Fire tracks from the recent album 'Illumination' featuring Raphael Saadique, Kenny G, Brian McKnight etc. But this particular one 'Pure Gold' is Hot. I loved his version of 'Higher Ground' on his previous album, Marcus. Will be looking out for the new one. I get blown away every time I listen to Marcus.
