1. I met him in September as he and a band he was playing with were rehearsing at my friend's rehearsal studio in Santa Monica. He was playing with DH Peligro (ex-Chilis drummer) and Rocky from Suicidal Tendencies. They were all really nice guys and the music that was coming out of the room was great - the smell coming out was pretty potent too considering they'd been asked not to smoke in there!

    Apologies for the name dropping.

  2. I'd just like to agree with several others that this likely to be a one off situation and I am sure an amicable solution will be reached.

I'd also like to share my experience of the two Compacts that I feel I was lucky enough to wrestle from the grasp of two other BC members. I have found them to be very, very robust and the lack of any real weight means that on a one-cab gig (which is often due to their output) I can walk from car to venue in one journey.

I have not found them lacking in bottom end at all but neither am I noticing any mid-range scoop and although a different model to Rob's I would probably say it's the mids that I love the most about them. I have used them in a rock\metal band, a funk band and a ska band and coupled with my SA450 I have been able to produce the kind of tones needed for all of those styles with no problems.

  3.
Wow! Thanks Mark, that's a pretty detailed review. So have you done away with the Compact for the PC's then?
I'm presuming a 4 ohm PC 212T would be more than adequate as a one cab solution, and save me 5kg on the Schroeder 410L that I have at the moment?
I was reading this thread knowing that Mark had just acquired two of these very handsome cabs (pun intended) thinking that I should point him to it when I found that he'd already given quite an extensive review.

I was the person who gratefully relieved him of his Compact and I'm more than happy that now I have two they could probably handle any of my gigging situations. :)

I have to say when advertising pays a big chunk of the upkeep of most of these publications these days, that they dare give a lukewarm or bad review of any gear.

  4. It's still better than any UK bass mag I've ever read. I used to read Bassist too and it made me feel embarrassed to play what came across as clearly an idiot's instrument played in very simple fashion by the likes of Guigsy et al. Obviously Bass Player has to pander to their younger readers by interviewing the bassist from the current "big thing" rock bands but there are still enough decent articles.

I admit that it's not as good as when Bill Leigh was editor but it's still easily the best out there.

  5. I've just started playing with a reggae\ska band where it's clear to me the drummer hasn't a clue how to play those styles, so I totally feel your pain. I'm afraid my solution is going to be a him or me scenario though - perhaps you're not quite at that point yet.

  6. I'm sure anyone who's dealt with Mark previously will agree he's a top bloke.

Good luck with the sale Mark and £350 is a bargain indeed and it looks pretty much immaculate in the pics - is it sitting on top of a Purple Chili cab in pics by any chance? :)

  7.
Oh, I see. In that case you won't be disappointed!
The 2 Compacts stacked on top of each other are great. The output power is truly trouser flapping :)

Back on track with this topic - I think I may need to get some of these Iso blocks...
I got my second cab today and only turned the SA450 up to 9 o'clock but I genuinely feared I would be causing structural damage to my house! These Compact cabs really are amazing - I think I've finally found the cabs I've been looking for!

Also back on track, I will definitely be getting hold of some of these blocks too very soon.

  8. It's possible to juggle more than one busy band as long as they both understand that it's first come first served in the gig booking department. I have two on the go and am actively seeking a third simply because I really enjoy gigging as long as it's with a quality band.

However, if you'd rather be going out on a Friday or Saturday night and letting your hair down with your friends instead, then it's potentially a lonely old X miles drive home at 2am in the middle February - especially after a night in front of an unappreciative crowd.

  9.
One pair will be fine.

    Alex
Then I think I'll be in touch soon to order. :)
Hey Rowbee, I've got the exact same setup! How you getting on with yours?
I love the combination and sounds coming out of it.

    Cheers,
    Jon
Hi Jon. I currently have the one cab but am picking up the other one next week. To be honest I'm happy for most gigs with just the one but worry that there may be occasions on larger gigs where I might just need that little bit more. In terms of sound, I think the combination of amp and cab is superb and the fact that I can carry all the kit I'll need for the night from car to venue in one go is a huge bonus.

  10. The clearout continues.

I have a Trace Elliot Boxer 15 practice amp which is in great condition.

I still haven't found the power supply or bought new batteries for my camera but I'll try and sort that out and get a pic up.

I'm looking for [s]£50[/s] £45 collected or local pickup or if you want to arrange a courier that would be fine too.

    Thanks

    Rob

  11. I had a gig on Saturday and used my incredibly lightweight and portable Markbass SA450 and Barefaced Compact and was told to turn down! It's great though, because I can carry all of my gear to and from the car in one go.
