  1. Have owned several synths in the past, but not for a while. Thinking of picking up a decent all rounder, particular fan of the Juno series from the eighties having owned a 60 and 106 and the newish Juno X looks amazing, the current retail new is £1,400 which is a little more than I ideally want to shell out but I have been offered a fairly mint Jupiter X for £1450, they retail for £2k anyone in the know have any advice, is the Jupiter that much better than the Juno X?

    Thanks,

    Steve.

  2. Hi All,

As the market for selling basses seems a little slow in the current climate, I have been thinking about selling a few basses via a reputable music store. Does anyone have any advice/experience of selling via a store in terms of their costs and any potential issues to look out for or any recommendations of any particular store in the UK from previous experience.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  3. For sale my 1982 Aria SB1000 fretless in natural finish with a stunning grain. Comes with non original hard case. Very sad to be seeing her go, but she is increasingly more of a collection piece, living in her case rather than a working instrument.

She is in generally good condition but has the odd mark and a very small chip from below the final fret line on the G string which has no affect to the playability of the bass and everything works as it should. She really is a stunner. The fretless variant is rare, as are increasingly all Matsumoko Super Basses from this time period.

This is the fourteenth SB bass I have owned since 1983 and to say I love them is an understatement, so big wrench in seeing the last one go but needs must.

With a double octave 34" scale 5-ply maple / walnut neck, all-brass hardware and a Canadian Ash body she really packs a punch. I can take further photos if required, just give me a shout.

Apologies, but UK sale only, happy to courier at cost to your good self.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

(Really long waiting list if you want a new one!)

  5. Hi,

My second hand Stealth HH 4 string Bongo has a small chip from the slot holding the G string. Sadly I believe it came like this, being an idiot I didn’t notice for several weeks as the bass has been unplayed as the day after it arrived I was flying off on the honeymoon. I have taken her out today for a play and noticed the chip.

I am hoping that Musicman will supply me with a replacement nut, but I”d rather not attempt to remove the old one and pop in the new one when it arrives, can anyone recommend a luthier in Cambridgeshire that might be able to carry this out for me? Sorry not confident in doing this myself.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  6. Just completed a super smooth transaction with Mick for his Musicman Stingray fretless. Mick was a gentleman throughout, super friendly comms and despite my bank being over cautious we got there in the end.

    Cheers Mick.

    Steve.

  7. Hi All,

I recently purchased a preowned Musicman Bongo from a well know music shop (PMT) for a significant amount of money. The bass turned up a couple of days later and looked very nice, until I had a closer inspection, the bass was filthy! The neck was grimy, sticky and covered in fingerprints, the pups were covered in a fine layer of dust and clearly no attempt to even give it a wipe had been made.

I have been buying basses and guitars for some forty years and never received an instrument in this state. I appreciated it was preowned, but surely a shop would at least give it a clean before shipping?

After a basic clean she is now looking lovely, no marks or scratches - but is it really acceptable for a major music store with many outlets around the country to send out an instrument so clearly dirty?

Anyone else had a similar experience?

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  8. I have a hankering for a fretless Stingray, but having searched for several months they appear as rare as hens teeth. Compared to say Fender or other brands they really seem to release very low numbers to market, is it me or can anyone enlighten me as to why they seem so rare.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  9. Hi All,

I have an old black Aria bass that has a fair bit of battle damage, chips and scratches and I have been thinking about having her refinished in the original black, but from my initial research it’s a very expensive process and have also read a few horror stories, can anyone recommend a reputable refinish company?

    Cheers,

    Steve.

  10. So, you have your dream bass in mind, in your dream finish, you wait for a long, long time for it to appear for sale. You decide eventually that it’s just not going to happen, so you pull the trigger on the dream bass, but not in the finish you are after, then two weeks later your dream bass, in the dream finish appears for sale!!!???

I have just bought a Rickenbacker 4003 in ruby red, less than a fortnight later, my dream finish ‘blue boy’ appears. I had been looking for one for years, so having given up my chances of one appearing, I pulled the trigger on a lovely ruby red finish. Arghh!

Pretty sure others have a similar tale to tell.

P.S I am very happy with the ruby red 😉

    Steve.
