1. Yes, lovely sound, although I liked the original bass player better... Stuart Zender, was it? What basses did he play?
2. I actually rather liked it - I was just offered a lot more money than I paid for it at the right time. Once I'd put on the spare set of rotosound 30-115's, it sang! We'll see how Mick in Switzerland gets on with it
3. Indeed... It's left the BC fold, I'm afraid. In fact, possibly the shortest time I've ever had a bass! The statii member contacted me the other day asking if I still had my KingBass 5 for sale. I told him I'd sold it, had bought a new replacement S2 & just picked up an Energy Artist 5 with a replacement graphite neck. He offered me a price I couldn't refuse for the energy I think this is called "trafficking" in certain countries
4. Anything with a Status badge on it and a nice shiny graphite neck... Like this one
5. I like the fact that the HWone has the Badass bridge as standard & the graphite neck poles, but I'm not convinced by the nitro "wears out fast" finish. On the other hand, the S1 switching & through body stringing gives you more sound options with the MIA standard. But all in all, the finish on either isn't great. You only have to look at a CIJ Fender like my Geddy Lee. It makes all the American ones look and feel shoddily made. I'd go to one of the Japanese importers & get one of the 75 reissues with the badass bridge and save some money compared with an MIA. I played yet another current MIM jazz at Sound Control last weekend. Amazing sounding and playing bass. Make sure you play one of the current Mexicans before you shell out a lot of money!
6. Hi there guys, Got a cancelled Christmas order for sale... Ashdown EB180-12 combo, brand new in box. Pickup only, due to weight. If interested, either PM me or call Richard on 07946 513119.
7. Hmmm... That's a tough one, mate. I'd make daughter #1 get a part time job and work her way through college, like the rest of us had to!
8. Why would you put castors on a bass amp?? Surely the cabinet needs to be on the floor so the bass frequencies vibrate through said floor? That's what I think, anyway And reading through this thread, I agree that the TNT115 is a great amp. Bullet proof for the money, just very heavy. Played through them a lot over the years at jam sessions, etc.
9. I'm running 500 watts of MarkBass stuff usually (Mini 15 combo with 2x10 traveller on top, running at 4 ohms.) Usually I've only got the input volume at 9 o'clock & the output at 12 o'clock. This gives me masses of power with any of my active basses, but for smaller jobs, I use the MB 2x10 cab with an Ashdown Mag 300 head. Luckily, my guiarist in the rock band isn't stupidly loud with his 150w Line 6, so it's never a competition. I think it's down to common sense - I even use a 30w Roland Bass Cube for shows. No need for huge volume there! Just make sure we all use a setup that's apt for the job & place we're playing in.
10. Nice looking trace. I had a couple of the older ones (GP7SM 15in combo & GP12SMX 15in combo, both with the 4x5 bright box on the top.) Are the new ones very different? I have to be honest & say that I haven't tried anything else since moving onto my MarkBass stuff. (Oh, and my Ashdown Mag300 head that I use with the MarkBass 2x10 cab for a "mini rig".) I think I tend to move forwards and try new things
11. I think Merton has put his car keys into the hat first, but best offer will win the day as per usual, Mart
12. That looks much better - Always loved Rumours!
13. My Geddy Lee is a "CIJ" - Quality is stunning! Not sure of the difference between MIJ & CIJ, though. Hey, perhaps we ought to get off here & let this man sell his bass?!
14.
So why's this better than a MIA then?
Er... Quality control on the Japanese Fenders is second to none. Neck is likely to be thinner as well. All in all, the Japanese ones are actually finished properly, unlike the ones made by lazy Americans!
15.
yeah.... And the thing is, I know thats true.... So where do all the Washburn Status's go Dave?
Interesting question, that one... You see a couple every now & again on statii.com, but there must be a lot more around. But then again, they weren't that good. Better off saving up for the real thing!
16. Hey guys, sorry for the stolen photos - I haven't gotten around to taking any yet. Picked this up from Mike (Beneath it all) today & gave it a good clean & a good light set of strings. She's called the Basschat Status whore, as she's been owned by Dr.Dave, the Beedster, ZPQ & Beneath it all. If I missed anyone, apologies! Current photos tomorrow! Oh, by the way... Who filled in the strap holder holes & put a single one in the middle of the base of the body??
17. Once you've played a Status bass, nothing else will do. Nuff said!
18. Review coming in about a week (As soon as I stop for a moment!)
19. I've been using a Roland BassCube 30 with my TRB-6 for shows & it coped brilliantly with a grand piano, keyboard, drummer & six-piece wind/brass section. I was amazed, too! The stupifying thing is that the sound doesn't even get lost in a big theatre!
20. List on an S2 like this is £1750. KingBass to similar specs, with or without the 32 inch scale & bendwell is a little more at £1799. Depends if you want a lot of options added like LEDs, etc.
21. Hi there, yes the ICON series Hofner is the cheapest US market only Hofner. They also do the contemporary series, which is much better quality. I have a Hofner contemporary violin bass for sale in as new condition with a genuine Hofner gig bag if you're interested. (Took me 3 months to get the damned case!) I'm after £325 ono for it. It's the black one with the white beading around the edges, btw.
22. Thanks for the comments, guys! Just ordered another Status as well, so that'll be arriving soon Merton, I was quite taken with the T-Bass, but it's really like a jazz with serious attitude! I've actually ordered a 4-string version of my recently sold KingBass. Will be same wood & electronics as my S2, just with bendwell & 32-inch scale. Also buying the "BassChat Status whore" in about a week... (The Energy Artist 5 with the added graphite neck that's been owned by almost everyone on this server!)
23. Picked up my new Status yesterday direct from Rob's workshop. Tried a streamliner & the new T-bass as well. Both excellent basses (as you'd expect!) ...and with it's new family (Triumph upright is in it's case to the left...)
24. Hey Machines, does the new OLP have the same narrow string spacing as the cheaper ones, or have they properly widened the neck?
