  1. Weeel I put her back together again as per the very helpful Home of Tone diag with some nifty braided cable, and a new earth line to the bridge [old one was MIA] was a bit of a faff, but some thickish [3mm] strimmer line helped me guide the pots etc in to the apertures. I did say a rude word or two.

I re-used the OG caps, and the tone is still all or nothing, so I am planning on these 100n caps to replace the very old and maybe dead 01.uf [100n] caps. I cannot for the life of me find 0.1uf / 12v "dime" caps, but pretty sure the voltage has little to no effect.

Bass still sounds good, very "thomp thomp" as one would expect, just the tone needs sorting, unless this is how it should be? pitch dark or brighter than the sun, who knows.

Curious how this, and indeed an original Mutron III, will compare to the new Behringer B-Tron III coming out soon.

B tron is a one way ticket to funky town (allegedly)

    OG Mutron is billionaire territory

    😀

will try to do a demo today and post

  3. Like the OP I’ve never had a formal one-to-one lesson with another bass player. Imho everything is a lesson from every musician that you bump into, watch or play with. I find I’ve been playing pretty much constantly and relatively well now for nearly 50 years, but I’m always learning new things, watching other people with super superior technique to me and nodding sagely 👴

part of the reason I’ve responded to this thread is that I’ve just been asked to teach somebody’s teenage son the bass and I don’t really see myself as a teacher, having never been taught and so my thinking is that I could be a guide/mentor because I won’t be teaching anybody any dots. He is 3 years in and not too shabby. I can probably help with unlearning some of what he has already been taught, then get to accuracy, dexterity, fingering, some psychological stuff and some extended technique and assist this young fledging find their own path to bass righteousness 🤘🏽

trouble is, I’ve got no idea how much I should charge 😀

  4. Well, 1st hour = it's a bloody brilliant little box! weird, mad and as fonky as fok

Gonna play with it some more, but very well worth it IMHO, very nimble indeed, and to paraphrase captain stewblack "Considering how many envelope filters I own and have owned its nice to find something different"

One thing to note maybe, there is quite a lot of difference in its behaviour between active and passive circuitry, it gets quite unruly, rude even with an active bass up its fundament..no bad thing, just be aware that your passive funk settings with go "Full Flight Bootsy" with an active bass 🤘

    peace

  5. Epic feedback fail... should have gone into Steves FB thread but I phat fingered the buttons... I blame monday.

Mods please delete me or move this ❤️ thanks

  6. I live next door to 3 good drummers, all in bands, father and two sons.

When they rehearse in the shed, I have a secret little jam along 🙂  [could be deemed as bass dogging, but i am not proud]

That said, bands aint dead, the music industry is.

I guess it depends on what you’re playing it through, I remember my AH350SMX had a very similar EQ shape which sounded great to my ears, and my band mates ears (one of whom is currently, and for the last 10 years or so, has been Pete Townsend’s guitar/amp tech).

    YMMV

True enough, everyone has the right to do whatever they please sonically speaking 🙂 personally I just prefer a slightly smiley shaped EQ.. perhaps my bases have overley honked throughout the years 🫠

  8. Hello chatters! I have an issue that i have been living with for a while with my old gal but have decided to investigate, so I pulled the guts out of her to see what’s up and the electrics are clearly not original and are wired in such a way That The bridge tone is all treble immediately and it’s been that way since I had it so I am wondering if whoever rewired it fudged it or if one of the caps might just be dead ? Any wiremen here have a scoob?  I have looked for the OG harness and the Hoff VT Classic i found looks nothing like mine plus the caps are diff values. Any thoughts?

    pls excuse my horrible diagram.
