Forgot to mention, it has a single 15" speaker and has a bit of weight to it!

Slight error. The model is ca50b15 and I can't find a manual on google. Can't upload a photo but the front panel is as follows;

2 jacks, input 1 , input 2,

Volume knobs, volume1 ,volume2,

Equalisation knobs , low, middle1, middle2, high,

then 3 jacks, external speaker, headphones, line output.

The jack saying external speaker is the one I am querying.

Just picked up a Stagg ba50b15 and it has a jack socket on the front marked as speaker input. Tried looking online for a users manual and cant find anything. Not for now but would like to which, if any, extension cab could go with this and wasn't expecting what looks like a 1/4 jack on it.

Cheers everybody. Don't think I would subject any members of the public to my playing just yet! As far as equipment, I have 2 basses, a Lindo and a Black Knight and a small practice amp for now (will have to learn a bit more about amps before buying anything bigger). I have found a bass teacher and have another lesson tomorrow.

Thanks for enquiring. I feel that I am making slow progress , I think it takes a bit longer for me learn new things as I get older. Still, slow progress is still progress.

Thanks. I do wear a strap. I mean I really dig in with my fingers on my right hand and pinch with the left.

Despite being very much middle aged, I am a new player. Whilst practicing, if I try to play faster, I find I strike much harder with my right hand and pinch tightly with my left. Are there any tips to stop this habit or is it, as I suspect, a case of just continuing with the metronome to almost the point of abstraction or is there a simple fix?
