Thanks Daryl. It’s a great theatre but not particularly architecturally interesting like some others

we play at. Still a great gig though.

    Pete,

Is that a GK rig? If yes, how long have you been using GK?

Last night I began my 20 gig countdown to retiring from The ELO Experience with the annual

visit to our hometown gig - Hull New Theatre.

As usual it sold out so we had around 1300 people in. Slightly different this year as we had a flying

PA which involved a lot more time and manpower to set up. However the improvement was definitely

noticeable to the audience ( and me too, being non IEM’s!) so well worth the hassle and expense.

I dropped a couple of silly clangers but nothing drastic and the band as a whole played well considering

our last gig was mid November. Bit sad for me knowing it may be the last time I grace the stage there,

but still a great night for us. Caught up with a few old friends in the pub afterwards too so happy days.

Well it was the start of "dry" Jan, but that's maybe going to be the worst prediction of 2024 already in the bag!

Was a huge amount of fun!

Man, that was great. I listened to it several times.

Looks amazing. Was it a good night.

Have to say the first pic you are all looking at your left hand on the necks at the same time. I love seeing band in sync. :laugh1:

Very under sold event. At least we got some  good pics out of the deal.

I missed that post earlier Daryl. @Lozz196 comment triggered me to go back and have a wee look.

Fantastic stage set up plus access from side door. Drum riser too. Very professional.

    Nice one

    Thanks Dave,

    More pics from last night.

At a buck a beer I doubt there's much beer in it. Hard to know what their game is with those prices. A 500ml craft beer in a bar here is going to run you maybe 6 or 7 bucks US but the band is free.

    I was told it's a 16oz pour into a 20oz glass.

Majority of our jackets are made by the guy who used to make the outfits for Glitter Band many years ago so proper Glam gear we use

He's currently putting together a special order one for me. The others have been jackets he made for presentations showing his clothing. He then sells them to us as he's similar size to most of us in the band. Our drummer knew him from his Glitter Band days in the 90's

A lot more fun than jeans and t-shirts. Those costumes look fantastic.

Ticket sales for the Glam band vary according to club but typically £10-£15 with exceptions like £22 at Hogmanay.

With regards beer costs that's what i was paying here back in early 1980's.

    Dave

    Thanks Dave,

Me, I'm no fun. Cranberry Juice and sparkling water. Lol

Huge upscale room this Saturday night. State of the art in house sound and lighting provided . I don't think our draw is enough to fill this size room.

    8:30 - 11:30, that's a long night for me. Good thing it's only a 15 minute commute.

Just curious,  are these prices low or high compared to the venues you guys play?

    "Tomorrow night.

SATURDAY! Maple Road Blues Band LIVE at the fabulous Foundry 45 in Kewaskum! $10 at the door, a night full of live rockin' blues on a bada$$ stage with even badder a$$ sound & lighting, and get this, $1 Domestic Tap Beer and $2 Craft Tap Beer while it lasts! Don't miss this one folks!"

I would never have had the courage to dep without having done some jams.

The two key points are (1) no one dies and (2) usually someone leads the song who wants to do it and unless it's really well known everyone else is flying by the seat of their pants, not just you.

I once had the conductor of a symphony orchestra explain the detailed structure of his guitar song to me and a drummer. We just looked at each other and managed to dive in at the right point.  The rest was guesswork...🤣

Speaking of deps. I got this message this morning regarding tonight's gig.

" Morning guys! Jim will be filling in for Jack tonight. He has some nerve damage in his arm that should resolve but not in time for tonight's gig."

It'll be cool, Jim is our old drummer and knows all our stuff. And me and Jim are really tight mates

First gig of 2024 with BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam covers band doing a fairly small intimate gig at The Cave in Paisley (near Glasgow  ) where we know the owner very well thru the Punk band and we agreed it would be fun playing such a small venue. Only holds about 60-70 and it was a busy wee night.

Guitarist was suffering with a fairly bad cold/flu bug but he managed to get thru it all ok.

Audience were really up for it with many wearing glam gear including the bar staff and a lot of dancing from the start. Just a great night of fun.

Made a decent amount from the tickets too.

Always one drunk donkey***e who spoils it a bit tho but that's life in bands i guess.

Lots of great feedback which is always good.

I saw a band a few weeks ago that many people told me was the best in the area. They had a bass player deputising for the usual low ender. It did not go well, and even the other band members were making lots of mistakes. We have to use a dep drummer on a gig in March (our drummer made a firm commitment to a family event without consulting the band diary). I am now dreading it, although we are rehearsing with the deputising drummer beforehand.

Our old drummer deps for us occasionally.  He's great and knows all the material. I'll consider ourselves lucky.

I am in two bands and dep with another. Normally it works pretty well to get the gigs rolling in but occasionally they behave like buses: none for ages and then you get 3 on the same weekend. 🥴

I'm not sure how depoing works. Don't you have to be somewhat known in a thriving local or regional live music scene to get dep work ?

I gigged a lot in my 20s, then family happened. The lost years. I reckon I went months, maybe years not touching a bass except to move it the get to something else. Encouraged by the pupils I teach, who had unearthed one of my old bands, I restarted in my late 30s with a talented originals band, just done our first recording and have some promising gigs lined up, but everything has just imploded because of an argument over an album cover, the band is apparantly dead.

I'm 40, probably too old to be in an originals band treading the unsigned indie circuit, but I have never had any interest in being in a covers band. I don't want to give up, but I can't see how I can continue.

    I wish I was 40.

    I'm 70 and didn't start gigging heavily until I was 57.

  17. In a way isn't every band a concept band?

We're kind of throw back to the early 70s rock bands. We're a 4 peice, drums, 2 guitars and bass. Lot's and lots of guitar work.
