I have this exact same bass but with the broadneck. It is the only bass I will NEVER  sell.

The combo of the beats and the pre just sing!

Does it have the same trim pot on the pre (inside the cavity) to control the mids?

Unless my eyes are playing tricks this is a broadneck - not sure about the earlier models but the stage 1 5- and 6-strings have been broadneck by default for a long time. The spacing on the bridge pic looks like 20mm.

I belive the OP is in Poland as I’ve seen this on eBay.

Opinion, yes. Sort of means a reason for or against. Where was your opinion ?  You just posted a big yawn.

If you see a thread title that has no interest for you,  move along. No one forced you here

I didn't realise you were the Basschat thread police. Good luck with that.

3. True, but there wasn’t much of a range even within those. Plus anyone wanting to buy the most popular brands can buy anywhere and online, so no real differentiation. Wunjo in Denmark St has all the big brands but a decent selection of others too (but then again they are a bass shop). Maybe they’ll build some stock over time. Guitar Guitar opened in Camden a while back and the two stores look very similar on the surface.

What I wasn’t impressed with was that the basses are in the back wall and if you want to try one you end up standing/sitting on the small cut-through between the electric and acoustic guitars, and have to keep moving every time someone wants to go from one bit to another. Having music blaring its guts out may amuse the staff but unless you fancy jamming along it isn’t very helpful to get to know a potential purchase!

4. Trying to desperately drag this back on-topic...
I popped in there earlier today. Very little to see if you’re a bass player - the usual few Musicmans, bunch of Ibanez and a bunch of Fenders. Won’t be visiting again - I appreciate the store is brand new but there’s more to see almost anywhere else, plus it was full of tourists!

Just switched channels to check out this weeks music, some woman in white playing a piano - WTF - this programme has seriously lost the plot.

Fine to say you don’t like something but ignorance of who or what you are watching and sweeping statements about the program as a whole based on said “just switched channels” says far more about you than your opinion does about said act or program.

I don't get this band. His voice sounds like a strangled cat, they look like dorks, they write streams of hippy goblin nonsense land there's slathers of horrible, tuneless, metal guitar over everything. Mysteriously, all the commenters reckon they're musical geniuses.

On the plus side they come across as nice fellas - but this rockumentary is dull as ditch water for all but die-hard fans.

In your opinion. It would be a dull world if we all liked the same things.

... and what do your second keys, second guitar, horn section and percussionist have to say..? Are they up to it..? What..? None of these..? It's basically a drum solo, then..? If your drummer's really up to playing what that bloke on Youtube is playing, he's in the wrong band. Those sights are very, very high, and if the full orchestration is not there, personally I can't see the point.
It's a funny ol' world, right enough. You're in a high-flying ensemble; make the most of it and fly with 'em, but remember the story of Icarus.

I totally agree. For the same reason, there’s not a lot of Tower of Power cover bands around; even if you could summon up enough world class musicians, you’d struggle to get the original feel (and personally speaking the track, and from what little I’ve just copped from YouTube, the band, don’t do a whole lot for me). Who in the OP’s band wants to do the track and why? As others have said, no reason you can’t get the bass part in time but there’s no point if the track as whole isn’t there.

You're quite correct that I don't identify with that given genre and it doesn't take away from him in the slightest. My opinion matters not a bit.
That post, and the one before it, was questioning the whole 'must have been influenced by him'. Of course as time moves on, every new player is influenced by those that came before them, and they were influenced by those that came before them and so on. I have been influenced by the players that Jaco was influenced by, and they would've had influences before them, so why is it only Jaco that must have influenced everyone, not someone before?
I'll add that I'm not rubbishing Jaco in any way.
Yes, I agree, I didn't think you were rubbishing him at all. Jaco was at his height 40 years ago and a lot of time (and music) has happened since then. I listened to a fair bit of Weather Report and Joni Mitchell when I was younger but must admit I find it hard to listen to now - partly through familiarity and partly because some of it hasn't aged very well.

I play in a Mod/Northern Soul/Ska band who play covers and originals. Obviously a few of those names you mentioned are big influences, other influences come from the original Jamaican ska bands and the likes of The Who, The Jam, etc. I never realised I was so influenced by John Entwistle until a fair few people have commented after various gigs.
I also play doublebass and am very influenced by early rock'n'roll and rockabilly bands. I grew up on post punk, goth, industrial and metal so have influences from there as well. As you can see I have a wide and varied taste but still can't see any influence by Jaco.
You mentioned Stanley Clarke, I bought an album of his years ago thinking it would further my bass knowledge but I just cannot listen to it, I revisited it a while ago thinking I might have changed my view, nope cannot stomach it. The same us true of Jaco, I have tried listening to every track posted in this thread but can't get past thirty seconds or so, it really makes me cringe. Yes he can play but it makes me recoil.

Edit to add, I didn't mean "why did it stop at Jaco" moving forwards in time but rather going back in time. I am much more influenced by people before him that influenced him, therefore I am influenced by them not Jaco.
I also read up on him today to try and understand more but all that achieved was making me realise that as well as not liking his music I don't think I'd have liked him as a person either.
Not that that takes away from his talent or his untimely death, although it seems he partially brought that on himself.
As always on a forum, opinions tell us a lot more about the person giving them than the topic being discussed. From your background and interests it sounds unlikely that you would like or identify with the sort of music he produced. No-one has to like a given genre or artist/musician. Does it lessen or increase any musician's legacy whether they're popular or well-liked? Not sure.

10. Setting aside for the moment what contribution he has or hasn't made, it is amusing that there are still people who want to get a fretless sunburst Jazz out and sound like him. The problem is, no-one does (and plenty of very good bass players have tried). He got his sound through a combination of natural talent, some fortuitous circumstances and a hell of a lot of hard playing, gigging and woodshedding. People can get the bass, the sound fairly easily but never get the touch or rhythmic awareness.

He had a big impact on the bass players of the time and one only needs to step back in time a bit and listen to film and TV and jingles to hear bits of that sound appearing. However this was 40 or so years ago, and I wonder what if any music really influences what everyone plays or does today? Music has had a long time to evolve and splinter into lots of different and smaller circles, and plenty of clones have come and gone. In many ways almost the last thing I'd want to do now is sound like him - I'm aware of the style and the music in the context of funk, fusion, jazz etc but I don't want to go near it stylistically. However when you think of major contributors to the way we play bass today, I believe he should stand as one of the greats.

11. Funnily due to being at home more recently I've listened to much of The Rush back catalogue. They were certainly one of my favourite bands growing up, but I would struggle to listen to any of their output now. Rush in Rio was good but the 30th anniversary live DVD was appallingly bad (let alone the 40th anniversary one) and I agree with WoT that Geddy's voice is shot. No reason for them not to continue playing but all good things come to an end and there's no shame in calling it a day. I can't see what reason anyone would want to redo Rush songs as they are rather idiosyncratic, but plenty of other artists do it when they get older.
