There's good Precisions and bad ones, too, and I think people factor that in when buying sight unseen from EBay.

    And there you have it.
Bought a few basses on t'Bay, dropped up to £700 untried and got away with it but oddly enough sold them all at some point and didn't lose anything - the only two basses I have kept are the two i tried extensively before i bought 'em.

  2. Is there any difference in the sound of the P4 pickup and the later(?) split P-type pick-up on the Blazer? My first proper bass and I liked how the design, although Fender based, was trying to look a bit different rather than a straight copy ( especially in that price range)

  3. This is so weird! I actually did this the night before the OP started this for about the first time in 15 yrs - the strings weren't that old just hadn't done it in a long time - actually only did one string, the D, and I can honestly say it made absolutely bugger all difference :-)

stuck this on my watch list but hadn't really read the listing 'til now. Is that normal eBay practice - "I will pull it if It doesn't come near to what i want....." ? Why not start it higher or put a reserve on it?

  5. That is stunning!! A lot of Ritters don't do it for me but that is one of the nicest basses I have seen on the forum!
Interesting design features there, the recessed jack in the backplate. And took me a while to figure out why it looked like through body stringing from the front but not the back  Also what scale is it?

  6. One of the last Pro llE's by the look of it (the database) Sold my Passive Pro l last year for more than that  - BIG mistake - but i was offered twice what I had paid for it and the electrics needed a seeing to but the neck was sublime.
Had owned Wals since 1985 til then and this is my first spell without one

    Serious WALGAS building...............

  7. From an interview BPM 1999

    Moulding's Holdings

Colin Moulding's current main base is a 1969 Vox Apollo; producer T-Bone Burnett gave him the instrument in 1993 during the recording of Sam Philip's Martinis And Bikinis. "This is the sound I've been wanting for the last ten years," Moulding reveals. "It has a real nice bottom end and that '60s click as well, which I'm fond of. It's McCartney-esque, loves compression, and really sings. Apple Venus is the first XTC album we've used it on; I think it's on every track but two. It needs an amp, because it sounds very flat through DI." Colin Epiphone Newport, which he bought in '79 for the Black Sea sessions, shows up on "The Last Balloon" and "Greenman." "It's an old '60s-type bass with a damper, which gives it that stringy double-bass sound. But the intonation's gone on it, so I don't use it much now."

  8. Would a dead spot on a bass fretboard affect the triggered sound in any way. Am i right in assuming the pickup (Roland GK3B or whatever ) would detect the drop off in sustain and the midi signal react accordingly? Hope I am making myself clear here. Have a nice old Overwater which has dead spots around the 7th on the D string but don't want to get rid of it as it is a rare old bird but have plenty of keyboards/racks.

  9. This may sound like daft question but how 'hollow' are the likes of the ASAT semi bass and likes of Chandler Surfcaster ( a nice example on eBay at the mo' ) both sporting an f-hole/cat's eye hole but the ASAT having humbuckers but the surfcaster having piezo type?

  10. used to have stand alone demos of Arturia Prophet 5, Jupiter 8 and YAM CS80 - not time limited but feature disabled. Download, Midi up and away I went. Lost them when my laptop totally self destructed - latency wasn't all it could be due to lack of processor power but still useable.

Now even after installing the softlicenser software and any demo software it still requires a dongle. Extract from activation email....

    .........Detailed installation instructions:

Nota : This software is protected by e-Licenser and does not require any dongle.

A Syncrosoft protection key (also called USB dongle) may be required in order to
test this demo version . If you have bought some recent Steinberg products (Cubase
SX for example) you might already have this USB dongle . Otherwise, thanks to our "No
Key, No Problem" offer , you can order a syncrosoft key with us online.
If you send back the key within the two months following the purchase
date, you will be reimbursed for both the price of shipment and the key.
This offer is valid for up to two months after the purchase date,
after which the key cannot be returned...........

contradicts itself right away  not too clued up on this so maybe i am missing something

  11. Spotted a recent thread that mentioned how to turn off posters signatures but now I want to switch them back on again (I am a lot more nosey than I thought ) but I cannot find the initial thread or figure out how to turn them back on!
    A little help please?

  12. Things are sounding better and better. However as you say the price is an issue - twice what I paid for mine. It is £130 cheaper if u go direct to the shop site but still too much. Also I am convinced they sold the same bass previously a couple of years ago and it was advertised at the same price. Whether it sold at that price we will never know. Definitely looking for a third bass this year, if only to stabilise my 3way Hercules stand :-) and it has to be THE ONE.

Now moved to the correct forum!

Both of my 5-string Overwaters are the same 36" scale as the C bass. TBH I never noticed the extra length until the first time I changed the strings and wondered why standard long scale ones didn't fit!
    [/quote]

My OS is def 34" so would I be right in thinking the further two inches is due to the bridge position on your pair and the C bass? I am tempted by that C bass but considered the reach to the headstock might be too uncomfortable. But if the extra long scale is due to the bridge position that would be ok.
