  1. I'm a huge fan of the stingray sound and this has it in effin bucket loads. She really is a monster of a bass and I'm quite reluctant to let it go but needs must sometimes and it deserves to be played a lot more than it is.

This is a gorgeous 2004 Musicman Stingray 4H. It has seen a lot of stage time and hence has the odd tiny nick and a small bit of buckle rash which has been smoothed out and lightly lacquered to stop any further wear.

It's all original. I recently had the preamp serviced by an electrical engineer and then sent it off to a luthier for a full setup.

I've a set of Ernie Ball slinkies on it at the moment and they're on it roughly 3 months and have that lovely 'warm yet still bright enough' tone to them.

It comes with an original MM hardcase but it has had a little bit of van wear and tear but still works perfectly and does the job.

I'm based in Ireland so shipping can be arranged. Its approx €50\60.

I'm looking for cash on this but I would be open to looking at other basses

Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions.

PS  I've just added a hipshot bass extender.

Depends what bass you have. If it has a decent harness to begin with there is no point.

If you want a vintage tone, look for 250k pots, if you want a modern tone go for 500k pots.

    I've got a 2014 mim precision

  3. Hey folks. I've recently got a 2014 mim precision and I'm wondering about the pickup heights. I've it set to fender factory settings but I'm looking for more clarity and tone(yes I know tone is in the fingers) but ya know what I mean 😂

    Cheers

I've told this story before but when I had my Stingray 5 with Ceramic pickup, I loved it but it was too heavy and I had a shoulder issue at the time so bought myself a Sterling 4H and fitted a Hipshot Xtender with a double stop lever so I could go down to both D & B

The Sterling is gone but I am still using 4 string basses and find that I can get away with just the drop D

That's very interesting because I've thought about doing the very same. It's very rare in 99% of the music I play that I'll need the low B, C or C#. It more than likely will be covered by the drop D.

Seriously, it’s just down to practicing a lot. I use a variation on the floating thumb technique, my right hand moves down the strings, helping to mute the ones that I’m not playing. I’m also muting with my left hand, using the fingers I’m not using to fret notes.

Maybe get a string mute thing too, they help cut down on unwanted string noise.

Yeah I'm using the floating thumb technique myself and it's working out very good for me. I just find myself so much more comfortable on a 4 but I keep thinking "don't do it man" 😂

  6. Hey low enders.

I'm struggling bigtime the last few months. I really want to go back to a 4 string bass but I love the extra depth and fretting positions available from the 5. I do struggle with keeping everything quiet on a 5 and the weight is slightly (only slightly) getting to me. I'm currently playing a stingray 5 2013 with the alnico pups. Monster bass but I've preferred the 4 string versions I've had in the past.

    Help 😂

Still not a patch on Bakithi's sound or playing...but then he's kinda unique... 😕

It was finding clips like the one before which kept me going when I was trying to get it right(ish)... 🙂

Here's Bakithi doing it...to be fair, even he looks like it's hard work, but sound is sooo much better;  3:35 or so...

Getting back to that F is a beach
