you can have the best bass in the world and make it sound sh*te!! you can also own the lousiest bass in the world and make it sing...playing is in the person more so in the hands and hour technique..tone comes form our fingers and amplified through our instruments....My stunningly brilliant ex bass tutor had a zon bass but preferred gigging with his 70's satellite p bass...and good grief did he make it sing...(we all know the satellite bass I'm talking about?)
-
very interested in the gibson eb3-l....
pics and price please.

its a proper valve head!
its only ever going to appreciate - its also vintage trace!
think hard, real hard... -
you will regret parting with that head!!
if its not loud enough with the cab - add another or get a better cab, these heads are fairly rare now...I would hold onto it and, if, you really need too go broke in buying something else... -
nah! billy sheehan is!

I hate banging my drum...but I teach sound recording at a college in Glasgow - I am no expert though - and have used many of the standard packages out there and have to say that pro tools is the most powerful, in the way it records and edits sound (the engine or daw is phenomenal) that I cant find anything out there quite like it or even close to it...is sooo flexible and is only limited to the power of your machine...incredibly stable on a mac but a little fussy about hardware on a pc!
-
macs are great!
mbox 2 and protools for the home is most recomended - big learning curve then audio recording nirvana!!
I have just installed a digi 003 control panel coupled to a mac xeon and related hardware into a community centre for general use - fantastic...
ps protools is the industry standard and is now widely used in uk recording studios. -
gotta start reading things properly! doh....
-
those look like old peavey cabs...
I have the same kinda setup - 2 single 1x15 one with a 300w eminence and the oher with a 300w beyma...they sound way cool together! only difference between mine and yours is that I have the original peavey fronts and grills - going to sell for £150 the pair... -

great thread!
I really regret selling my 82 mij ibanez blazer custom series..to this date there has been nothing like it!
regret though, not buying a lawsuit tokia...a fretless jazz for £80 in the mid 80's!! massive bummer and what a superb instrument. -
my 2000 vectra has no probs taking a full size 810 cab...its a hatch, back seats go down giving it masses of room in the back...British car fairly cheap to insure...I'm forty, just blew my no claims and it cost me £400 fully comp this year...
-
still lovin all these replies....this thread is well and truly alive!!
the question was: what kind of bass player are you?
some folk are writing back "basically sh*te!" and I dont believe it for a moment!
the most important thing is simply playing... if we get enjoyment out of it and perform live on occasion, then we are on a winner!
we always learn something from someone no matter the level they are at! -
Been playing bass for about 7 years, style mainly rock, the odd bit of basic slapping and tapping here and there, play pick and fingerstyle...i should be better than i am.
no the feelin mate!
I've become a bit of a lazy git - I blame it on the kids myself! -
important and potent incorporating a good partnership with a drummer!
nothing I like better than sitting in with the drummer and grooving/driving the song....

my former bass tutor is the nephew of Jack Bruce...
he also played bass with the proclaimer, danny wilson etc...
also, used to be a cracking rock pub in Edinburgh called the Southern...Nirvana played an accoustic gig in there before an evening show late in 92', the place was quite literally full to overflowing, as you would expect, takings for that night was one the best the pub did ever!!! until...my rock covers band played in there...full, couldn't bloody well move nor get a drop to drink! record takings? beat it by a mile that night..as good as that may sound the advantage we had - was hogmany 92'! Edinburgh was bursting at the seems...................(|||)
