1. I hate banging my drum...but I teach sound recording at a college in Glasgow - I am no expert though - and have used many of the standard packages out there and have to say that pro tools is the most powerful, in the way it records and edits sound (the engine or daw is phenomenal) that I cant find anything out there quite like it or even close to it...is sooo flexible and is only limited to the power of your machine...incredibly stable on a mac but a little fussy about hardware on a pc!

  2. macs are great!

mbox 2 and protools for the home is most recomended - big learning curve then audio recording nirvana!!

I have just installed a digi 003 control panel coupled to a mac xeon and related hardware into a community centre for general use - fantastic...

ps protools is the industry standard and is now widely used in uk recording studios.

  3. those look like old peavey cabs...

I have the same kinda setup - 2 single 1x15 one with a 300w eminence and the oher with a 300w beyma...they sound way cool together! only difference between mine and yours is that I have the original peavey fronts and grills - going to sell for £150 the pair...

  4. my 2000 vectra has no probs taking a full size 810 cab...its a hatch, back seats go down giving it masses of room in the back...British car fairly cheap to insure...I'm forty, just blew my no claims and it cost me £400 fully comp this year...

  5. still lovin all these replies....this thread is well and truly alive!!

the question was: what kind of bass player are you?

some folk are writing back "basically sh*te!" and I dont believe it for a moment!

the most important thing is simply playing... if we get enjoyment out of it and perform live on occasion, then we are on a winner!

we always learn something from someone no matter the level they are at!

  6.
Been playing bass for about 7 years, style mainly rock, the odd bit of basic slapping and tapping here and there, play pick and fingerstyle...i should be better than i am.
no the feelin mate!

I've become a bit of a lazy git - I blame it on the kids myself!

  7. well to answer the obvious: Male and of four string long neck variety!

Anyhoo...thought I would ask this as it would seem there is a huge amount of missing info in relation to us all as players...

I am a standard no frills solid rock bass player in the mold of Cliff Williams and Phil Lynott. I occasionally tap (Billy Sheehan) but not practiced enough to say I'm any good at it! Same with slap, although I do incorporate basic slap techniques into some of the bands original material.

I believe that the players tone, technique and ability is all in the hands and if you are a decent player should be able to get a decent tone sound out of any sort of equipment even the perceived crap stuff!

Over the twenty plus years of playing - nearly thirty actually! (31 now actually) I have always made a pigs ear of things when I have to think about it or attempt to be technical, sooo tend to be simple but effective - good grief that's me simple and effective.....

  8. awrighty folks...

had an idea and mods - take note!

Over the last few months, possibly longer (previous forums) we have discussed many famous players, their individual talents, musical style and the influence they had on our playing styles; we (the mods) should provide a new sub category consisting of bass players who would/should be included in a ' hall of fame' of which, we could put forward a list monthly/bi monthly of our favourite bass players which would provide a voting opportunity for all members of this forum to register their vote with the winning player/s gaining access to the hall of fame granting them legendary status!

    anyone second this?

    comments please....

  9. heard alice cooper's elected whilst driving to work yesterday. (Rock Radio FM 96.3)

I am an Alice Cooper fan and was instantly (and natrually, retrospectively) in awe of how good Dennis Dunaway is! the man must surely be given legendary status - he can feckin play!

I had actually forgotten how god he is and how much he influenced my style of playing.
