This is the only one I think that I miss.

It's called Jade Dragon, a pre-LX Spector Euro 5 with full maple wings with an emerald green finish (of which not many Specors were produced)

I was giving up bass playing at the time and sold most of my related possessions including this one.

Fortunately I'm still in contact with the buyer and if he ever wants to sell I'm the first in line.

I’ve heard that before... I ended up buying another Spector after at least 5 years waiting 😉

... but then green is my favourite colour 😅 so with that my top 3 G.A.S list has to start with this one:

Now, you really got me curious, which model did you get? 250, 500, 800, 1000? How is the noise floor (hiss) on this amp compaired to the mesa? And how noisy is the cooling fan?

    Dennis

I got the 250 because I don't actually need more power. I can't hear any hiss at all. I do hear the cooling fan, but it's quiet enough so that I dont hear it when playing in my bedroom (let alone with a band), so more than acceptable in my opinion 😉

Hard to compare the noise with the Mesa because my bedroom is obviously quieter than the shop, and I dont remember hearing anything in the shop (on both MB and Mesa)

  4. I have one as well - got it a few days ago. Wouldnt call it dark(er) either (even though not as clear as EBS Reidmar).
I found it punchier than the regular MB. The EQ is really good too. It just sounded the best with my Spector (and to my hear) while I compared it to other Markbass and the Mesa D800.

  5. Can’t blame you, I bought mine in the middle of the pandemic.... it made the confinement so nice. Not really looking forward to leaving my flat (unless it’s to play) 😅

I think it's time for you to finally get some Spectors....that's the theme I sense 😄

Agree 🥰 Got mine a few weeks ago, I am like a kid (ok technically, my 4th... made the mistake of selling the first 2, but definitely keeping mine now). I am a hardcore fan

  7. Yes, I guess you are right - doesnt seem to be too many options otherwise.
I presume I am left with GK Plex and EBS Microbass right?

For the looper, I was thinking about the Boss RC10r.

  8. Hi all

I was hoping you could potentially help me. I’ve been using a Zoom B3 for now that I was 1. Half happy with it (didn’t like switching between the screens) 2. Is falling apart (keep stopping while I am playing).

    What I am currently using/need

    1. a very solid looper including undo function that won’t leave my bedroom 99% of the time (Boss RC30?)

    2. a preamp/DI with semi parametric EQ and if possible a comp embedded as I don’t need a very sophisticated comp most of the time (EBS Microbass III?). I also like the Mesa Subway+ just sad it doesn’t have a compressor.
I will also use that bad boy to record on my MacBook so USB needed here. I am not looking to color my sound (happy with my Spector/Markbass), just to have a proper EQ and find my sound easily when I am using someone else’s amp. For what it’s worth, I play everything but Metal/Punk and very Little Rock. I couldn’t care less about having a distortion on that preamp as it will just never be on.

    3. Assuming no comp on that preamp... I’ll need a simple comp here. I mainly use the clone of DBX160 on the B3, but want a pedal absolutely.

I of course spent some time using the research function, but was wondering if, someone would think of a way to miminimze the number of pedals. Long story short, if it existed, my dream pedal would be a combination of 2+3 so that I don’t have to carry a pedalboard when leaving my place. 1 staying home.

    Cheers

  9. That's interesting! I might have concluded a bit too fast. As surprising as it might sounds, I found the D800 extremely rich in mids (which is normally what I look for/like) but this time slightly too much, and rather agressive.

I am also not the most patient when it comes to EQing to be fair - I tend to be the kind of guy who swap amps if not happy with the EQ at 12. Even though I did try a bit more this time 🤓

I guess the fact that the MM sounded exactly like I wanted straightaway played a huge role.

  10. Just got a MM version. I am pretty sure you could achieve a similar sound with the LM3 (playing with the EQ) but I just loved the sound with the EQ at 12 o'clock so didn't look much further. It's a great one.

Nothing new here but the only sensible thing to do is to go to a shop with your own bass and give it a try. I was on my way to buy a Mesa D800, and as crazy as it sounds, I went for the MB. Just worked better with my Spector.

Needless to say that none of the hours spent comparing the tones on youtube, reading reviews on BC/TB, or even trying it with a random bass from the shop, were helpful in the end.

Long story short, MB is still relevant for thousands of bass players around the world - stil relevant for you is really up to you to decide

EDIT: To be clear, I am going to get the Mesa pedal preamp - not saying it did not sound amazing. Just felt like for some reason the alchemy Mesa/Spector was just a bit too much for me to use 24/7. If I was into very "aggressive" kind of musics I surely would have taken the Mesa though.

EDIT2: Since I am into talking about "competitors" the Aguilar sounded great with my bass too, just couldnt justify the extra $$ as I felt the difference was really insignificant.

I use either of two pairs at home. Shure SRH1540s with a Mavis Modz upgraded cable for listening and playing. Sennheiser HD600s with the HD650 cable for mixing (less bass forward). Both superb and very happy with both. I have some PJB headphones too but am not a fan compared to the Shures / Sennheisers.

Got the Shure as well. Can only recommend.

  12. Haha just kidding anyway. Agree with the rest, they are insanely good, but 4000+ better? Probably not. Same way Foderas are probably not 8k better than ______ (please fill the blank with whatever decent bass you can get for 1-2k).

whats for sure is that, they are pretty serious stuffs!
To me they are fully worth every penny, but that’s because I just never found anything I liked as much for less money.
