The GAK website says the string spacing is 19mm, can you confirm this? it doesn't look like tht wide to me...

GAK just cut'n'pasted that from the 4 string description. SR2605 is 16.5mm spacing, I'm sure.

This came with the normal semi hard case. Maybe it is what they called a gig bag

Don't know. It might be something they are changing for 2019. The SR2600/5 was released in 2018. (I assume the serial number on the back of your purchase is going to date it to 2018 production?????) Anyway, the Ibanez 2018 EU catalogue stated, "soft case included". But the website description which they appear to have updated for 2019, says it comes with a gig bag. Who knows?????? Let's see if the next person buying one with a 2019 serial gets the case or a gig bag......

Hey Clive, I'd only really be looking to trade for a quality new Ibby gig bag rather than sell outright, but someone else on this thread may be interested in selling you one. But if you treat yourself to one of those fancy new Ibbys, then give me a shout.

How many of the semi-hard cases do you already have?

Don't ask questions like that! LOL I have 3 of the SR Premium cases. Don't have any Premium Ibby SR's anymore. A bunch of mid-range that live in hard/soft cases, the Ibby case when I can pick'em up, otherwise those cheap (£40 quid, I think) Armourdillo branded jobbies that you can get from Amazon or direct from Dawsons.

That brings me onto something you might find interesting. If you get a chance, (maybe the next time you go to Wunjos),  have a noodle on the latest generation SR500. Since they changed the neck (for CITES reasons) from Jatoba/Bubinga with Rosewood board, to Jatoba/Walnut with Jatoba board, it's much more snappy sounding with the licensed Barts. There's a clarity there now, which kind of overcomes the Barts tendency to muddy/cloud. It sounds more "cutting" like the the Nordy equipped Premiums.

I'm a fan of those semi-hard cases. Light, but better protection than a gig bag. (Unless we're talking about $$$$$$$ gig bags with 40mm padding. LOL) If you're interested in selling any of them, give me a holler via PM.

  5. Also, another thing to note from those specs apart from string spacing...... GIG BAG INCLUDED???????? C'mon, this is a Premium bass, right? What happened to the semi-hard case they used to come with??????

The 2405w is 6mm wider than the 2605 at the 24th fret according to the spec sheets for the 2 basses...

I didn't notice that. But then I was probably too busy drooling over the pictures. LOL

I'm impressed if you can spot that just by looking at the pic!

@GisserD - if Clive has got this correct then I think you have an SR that pretty much hits the mark (although it will have Aggie rather than my fav Nord pups - but you may prefer that being a 's'ivilised Sandberg  fan).

Well, the individual bridges are definitely spaced closer together on the Nordy equipped 5's. If you compare the picture of the 2605 to the 2405, the 2405 is definitely wider spacing. As to whether it's actually 18mm.... I'm guessing that.

Be interesting if they retain the growl of the Nords or are a bit more civilised. I suspect the latter...

The really interesting thing about that 2405..... Look at the gaps between the individual monorail bridges. Looks like 18mm spacing to me, rather than 16.5mm.

Nope, its wrong, its 16.5mm. I read that and was seriously gutted as that is probably my favourite finish, although I have now talked myself out of it. But that is a misprint (there is a thread about that here). It is 16.5mm as god intended.

IIRC, the only SR 5er that has wider spacing, if you're trying to avoid the tight 16.5mm, is the single-cut SRSC805 with 18mm spacing.

Premium and prestige SR have truss rod access at the heel.

I'm pretty sure that a couple of the latest gen, non-Premium, but higher-end standard series, like the SR670/5 and SR870/5 also have truss rod adjust at the heel.

...... the new price of the bass was significantly less than the used price......

I'm tempted to say that the price of a pre-CBS Precision was somewhat lower than what I see them changing hands for these days.

But seriously, the price (around £320) these MIC MP short scale basses were selling for when they could be purchased new from a shop, is but a distant memory. £500 seems to be around the average price they change hands for now. The dreamer on eBay who was asking £700+ was being somewhat optimistic. The £300 I recently paid for a mint one, was also an anomaly. I would have paid more. The seller only wanted to get back what he paid. £500 is a fair price, IMHO.

I have noticed that the finish on these and the SRC6s varies wildly, this finish is as it was in the shop but I also noticed it was shinier than other ones I’ve seen.

I've seen more than a few "factory matt finish" 500's (both the brown mahogany and the sunburst - I still own 2 of them). The finish on yours looks like someone has given it a very liberal (the whole can????) application of Pledge or Mr Sheen. (Sorry, just sayin'.) But at least it doesn't appear to have any of the finish flaking-off, which is the most common problem with that matt finish. Definitely low-playing hours on this bass and still an absolute bargain at 200 quid!!!!!!

Plus the CS is probably a 1/4 sawn neck.

Fender specs says that this production model has a quarter-sawn maple neck.

EDIT: The interesting things about this neck, IMHO, are the 12-16" compound radius and 1.62" at the nut, rather than the expected 1.5".

There's a BAX outlet in the UK.

Hmmm. There is actually an outlet/shop at the Folkestone address? I always figured that was just a "trading address" in the UK to put on the invoices for UK customers. Everything I've had from them or sent back to them has always been to the Netherlands. I had no idea the Folkestone address actually was a shop or warehouse with stock.

My dealings with Bax have always been fine. Even when they sent me the B-stock bass with the chipped fretboard, they straight away offered a free-of-charge return or an additional discount (partial refund of the discounted B stock price I had already paid) if I wanted to keep it. It's another well known large Euro outlet I have had issues with. Bax have always been good to deal with!

Some of the basses are discounted more than others with the same 'packaging' defect....that was my worry!

Yes, that's why you need to see it for yourself. People (customers) don't return basses for them to be sold as B-stock due to "damaged packaging". ;) They (Bax-shop) don't ever seem to list defects for B-stock, only damaged packaging. But it's risk free to see what you get. Get a good 'un, keep it. Junk, return it for full refund.

  16. No risk to you, really. You can always return at their expense. You'll need to print the UPS shipping label they send you for a return and drop-off at a UPS collection point, but that aside, it's risk free. I've bought a few B-stock items. Kept two. Returned one, a bass that had a chip out of the fretboard. (The "defect" wasn't described in the web site description.) That bass was returned to them the following day after I received it. Refund was back in my PayPal account the day after that. YMMV.

  17. Ian bought my Ibanez SR1300. No nonsense, great guy to deal with. He arranged the shipping. An easy transaction. I'd have no hesitation dealing with him again, regardless of whether I was buying or selling.
