I'll start off with.

A portable Tech 21 Class D amp. Unless it was stupid money I'd buy one like a shot.

All they need do is make some kind of killer poweramp, with a slot just right to fit a character series pedal into.

Class D, pick your prefreed voicing, have a couple, swap between Ampeg, Orange, Marshall etc in seconds. Sw***y.

  2. I'd assume the idea of an Active P is to get the classic voicing, and you can use the eq to get other voicings and such. Certainly be useful as a recording bass.

I have a Cort with a P pickup and a pre-amp, adding a spot of treble make it sound proper grindy and slices through aggressive mixes, love it.

All of the hardware and pickguards, etc are readily available (and fairly reasonably priced IMHO). Most of the hardware is shown on Sandberg's webshop http://merchandise.c...,0,308,0,0.html , but I would just contact Synergy if there's anything I want. I've been considering getting a replacement bridge for my KT, because they've improved the design this year.

Ahh! That's dead handy, like the look of their new knobs too. Been looking at a Cream VM5 Supreme(at Thomann), amongst a few others. Think it could look awesome with the hardware and pickguard blacked out.

EDIT: Then again, it looks so good stock, I dunno could I mess with it.

  4. Ahhh. I shouldn't be worried about picking up a more recent/new in stock one so, rather than looking for new old stock/2nd hand ones.

It's almost a shame you never see their straight V(P)5's in stock anywhere. Then again, I've a habit of modding P basses to have bridge pickups so might be for the best that it's already stock that way.

Are they hard to get replacement hardware or pickguards for?

No unfortunately. On the California series, which have the two-band eq, the treble pot becomes a passive tone control. I reckon it would be worth emailing Glockenklang, because I'm sure it must be possible to do. Alternatively, you can buy a Glockenklang 3 band pre from Thomann, which has the passive tone control, swap them over and just leave the blend pot inside the cavity.

Bit late for this I know, but I had to say something as I was having a shufty about the thread.

The Glockenklang pre-amps, it's really simple to remove the blend from the wiring, I've done it to both a 2 band and a 3 band. IIRC, it's just pop the brown and black wires off of the blend pot, and connect them to your pickup, or coil switch, or such.

LaBellas seem like a big investment though - even D'Addario come out a bit cheaper if ordered from the states. Anyone tried the Status tapewounds? Prices are very good, though I don't know if the conventional gauges mean that they'd be floppy.
They shouldn't be, the Daddario and GHS ones use regular guages, and aren't floppy at all, IMO.

  7. It seems that they used to use Delanos, but now use their own lookalikes.

I'm looking at them on Thomann, and most of them are listed as "
1x Sandberg P-style and 1x Power humbucker pickups" and "Sandberg 2-band EQ with passive tone control".

  8. Anyone know how their own pickups stack up to the Delanos they used to use, and their pre's to the Glocks?

Looking at a few online, and I don't know should I be going for the ones with Delanos and Glocks(of which I have had positve experience before), or if their own stuff is good enough.

I considered it, but I got used to front-mounted jacks after playing 2-band Stingrays/OLPs for a few years... and I kind of like it there now.

I think the extended pickguard looks more "balanced".
I have no problem with front mounted jacks, just thought this one looks a bit close to two of the controls, especially if you're going to put active stuff in there.

    Agreed about the extended pickguard.

    Ah, forget it!

I'm keeping it!!! I actually like it better with my proposed new pickguard (if I get it done one day)

    This is the stock pickguard:

and this is what it would look like if I do a new plate:

New guard idea looks much, much better.

If it were me, and I was going the whole yards hot rodding it, I'd probably side mount the jack too, looks to be in a somewhat annoying spot.

    Indeed.
Although an MM pickup a bit closer to the bridge is also pretty nice, more "Jazz bridge" in that case, as in my Cort GB74.

If I like the bass enough to see myself using it a lot, I'll put the 3-band SD preamp I have (stingray style).
If I like it A LOT, I'll put a homebrew 2-band plus a John East Midsweep module.

I just hope they don't come out with a fretless version of this... because I'd find it quite hard to resist.
The GB's position is nice too, and a million times better with an East SR(:)), but it'd be very interesting to see what'd happen with this. Stingray sound, Ricky body, Fender neck, mind ******. :D
