  1. I don’t think it is Andy- the pole pieces have wee circles on them.. kinda looks like the bottom of a frying pan 😂
  2. That’s ok mate, appreciate the thought 👌
  3. I think it sounds... not great. It could never be bridge only on this jazz! I’ll be favouring the neck pup until I either get new pick ups or give up and sell it.. most likely to the shop that sold it to me 👿
  4. I bought a Mexican jazz bass (fretless) a while back. I never really got on with it but I kept a hold of it anyway incase I changed my mind.. recently I decided to give fretless another go and after a good look over I noticed both the pickups are different! I should have noticed this when buying it I know.. so no need to tell me 🤐 It was pre owned when I got it from a shop, do you guys think the previous owner put a different pick up in it? I’ll post pictures. the bridge pickup has a different look to the pole pieces than on the neck pickup and the plastic looks matt compared to the neck pickups gloss plastic
  5. Now that’s a great shout! I tried it on my keyboard just playing the chords with the left hand and doing the vocal melody with my right, now that you’ve said that I’m going to look at the “notes” of the vocals and see what that says.. cheers ok I used a piano app to write down what the notes for the vocals sound like to me and these are the notes used (not in order) B - C# - E - F# - G#
  6. Aye fair shout stevie, The piece does sound like it arrives home when it lands on the F#
  7. For me it kinda sounds like it resolves to the F#.. the way it’s played, maybe because the F# is played longer than the other chords u know? 🤠 either way I put a bass line to it I think sounds good so next time we get a chance to jam I’ll try it out and see if it suits. thanks FDC484950 & Twotimesbass for your replies ✌️
  8. Hey all, I was writing a bass line to a song a guitarist friend put together, he doesn’t really know any music theory so can’t tell me what key the song is in (chances are it’s just some chords he liked). anyway the chords for the verse are C#m / G#m7 / F# I was thinking G#minor - iv / i / VII or C#dorian - i / v / IV It could even be B major without playing the tonic - ii / vi / V F#major - v / ii / I Any ideas? How would you guys approach this? I should add that 1st bar - C#m 2 beats, G#m 2 beats. 2nd bar - F# 4 beats.
  9. Hey siege, we’re needin more weegies 🤙
  10. Hey Gordy, do u miss the midgies when your away in the states?
  11. It’s interesting that you say they are pretty much the same piano but with a different case because I have heard that in a lot of reviews I’ve read. As for feel of the keys that would mean they were the same no? I’m looking forward to getting to a music shop so I can try them! As I am at work just now in the north sea and won’t be home for another week so I’ll just have to keep watching reviews on YouTube till then 😀
  12. The FP-90 has now gone at the same price (it was second hand) 😓 I can only see it for £500 more (new) I see that the RP-501R isn’t much more than the F-140, is it worth the extra £122? RP-501. https://www.kennysmusic.co.uk/roland-rp501r-digital-piano-contemporary-black F-140. https://www.kennysmusic.co.uk/roland-f-140r-digital-piano-contemporary-black
  13. Bass tractor- Aye I probably mean the f-140r🤠 it will be house use only and I’ll get the stand with it. I’ve seen both for the same price so I really have to try them I guess to see which I prefer the feel of but this Covid kicking about has prevented me from going to any music shops! I’m far from Pro (very far actually) but I agree with you saying about getting a cheap instrument dulls the experience a bit. I had a go at learning piano years ago on a rly cheap keyboard and I didn’t stick it so I would rather have a half decent one to play. As for the money - £999 for something you could get enjoyment out of for years and years is a good deal I think, I got my favourite bass for about £800 and I still play it to this day, People advised me at the time that it was too much money to spend for a beginner but it’s over 13 years later and I still love and use it so anyone jumping in with “buy a cheaper one” will be swiftly ignored!😎
  14. Hey guys/gals, I was wondering if anyone on here plays piano and if so could advise me on which digital piano to get, I was thinking the Roland FP90 or the Roland FP140. Does anyone have either of these?
  15. Hey guys, I try to combine learning with writing - so say I’m learning about the different modes (lydian, Dorian etc) I then try and write a bass line/chord progression using whatever mode I’ve just learned and find it can spark a bit of a creative idea I can explore further, although more often than not I just scrap the idea but I hopefully by that time I know how I can apply what I’ve learned. Just now I’ve been trying to learn piano and do the same thing, I recently learned how to build 9th chords then immediately tried to write a progression using 9th chords. I think it helps me to put whatever I’m learning in a piece of music to see it working if that makes sense?
  16. @BassTractor Thanks for your input pal! I am still unsure what to do.. 1.Decent keyboard 2.Midi keyboard use with iPad 3.Keep the Casio I have and get the bassstation. I was meaning doing the bass on keys only.. like a band that would have a drummer, guitarist, singer and the keys/synth doing the bass lines. (but I can still play chords when messing about with my loop station by switching tones from say.. synth bass to organ or something)
  17. There’s a guy in my work that’s interested in learning bass guitar, he’s a saxophone player and already has great knowledge of music theory.. He was looking to spend about £300ish and was looking at Eastcoast basses. I don’t know anything about them so I was suggesting a squire jazz/p, Ibanez sr or Yamaha bb because I know people that have played these and reckon they are good entry level basses. does anyone here have any opinions on eastcoast basses? Or suggestions for a decent beginner bass? cheers guys 🤓
  18. I don’t think it does have a midi input because it’s about 10+ yrs old now..
  19. First off cheers for the replies! bit more info.. I use a Jm4 loop station to mess about with in the house with my guitar and bass and I’m wanting to put down some chords on a keyboard to jam over. I’m also wanting to get into key bass because I like the sound and it’s just something else to play about with..preferably a small keyboard because I don’t have a lot of space. I’ve already got an old Casio keyboard I got as a kid but it feels more like a toy (light up keys to learn the preset songs n stuff like that 😂) so maybe I should just keep that for pianoy/keyboardy chords Because it is just house use.. and get the bass station for bass only. Or would it be better just to get a decent keyboard that I can play chords in lots of different preset tones and will produce a nice stand alone bass sound? Does any of you guys play bass on keys/synth?
  20. Hey all, can anyone help answer this question for me.. I’m thinking about buying the novation bass station and was wondering if I could play chords on it? I’m new to the keyboard/synth thing so I was wondering if I could lay down a few chords in a piano/keyboard tone and then switch and do a bass line or lead part over it? Cheers in advance 🤠
  21. Hey 👋 can anyone recommend a place in Glasgow to get a bass restrung and set up? (Action, intonation & restrung)
