  1. those early IRS albums were amazing

even the ones after Green were still listenable.

We played lots of REM and Smiths before they actually reached down under in my originals band so people had no idea whose songs they were.

Didya like it? then it's one of ours lol

I don't strech the strings, i just give them a small pull just to make sure they sit in the nut and bridge and play a little and throw in some slaps and pops, retune and is good to go.

Umm yes, you ARE stretching your strings, very gently :)

  3. Hi, not familiar with that interface, but I have a couple of thoughts.

Are the two SPDIF channels stereo ? that would make 4 inputs

Maybe the interface considers the combo jacks as two seperate inputs, ie the TRS is ch1 the XLR on the same socket is ch2 etc

    I'm clutching at straws here

I'm struggling with the two origonal songs that I'm recordingh/videoing on Saturday. I haven't had a problem with them at all until I have 2 days to go :)
    Wish me luck

good luck, just relax and let your hands do their thang :)

when we recorded our CD, our new manager waited until take 3 to ask, "can't you play something completely different?" after hearing us play it for years lol. killed my confidence, band broke up soon after :)

  5. I'm not from the UK, hopefully my opinion counts as well :)

    I've used D'Addario nickel rounds since 1979, here's what I've discovered.

When I restring, I fret at the 1st, 5th, 9th, 12th and 19th frets and pull the string upwards about 3 inches, too much and you overdo it.

    as always, set witness points.

If I don't do this, I need to retune the bass after every song for a day or two.

Stretching them gently does not lessen their lifespan, if you overdo it,they may unwind and become dead. I have not had a string go dead on me from stretching.

  6. I suffer from arthritis.

some days I can play YYZ two or three times in a row without pain.

some days I'm cramping halfway through the first verse.

    when pain persists, STOP.

So I play gentler stuff and half an hour later I'm OK again.

Walking basslines are good to warm up with

Chicago _Does anybody really know what time it is and Van Morrison's Moondance type stuff is great fun too.

Anyone near Cheshunt, Herts that can offer beginners lessons, I've had the bass for nearly 2 years and can't even tune it!

plenty of free lessons too, but yes, a real life teacher will be better to instill good habits with technique. Try to get a bass teacher though, guitar teachers think they know bass.....some do, some don't

and ask away on here, no question is too dumb,we all started the same way:)

  8. yes get another xl210 and stack them vertically

    this is mine

  9. OP, there are no rules in music, do what pleases you :)

I'm kinda getting the best of both worlds at the moment, my originals band jams irregularly but it's great fun, just acquired a drummer, our old drummer from a previous band in 1986 ! good vibes

and I still like to learn favourite songs via tabs or rocksmith.

currently working on XTC's Mayor of Simpletown, Rush's YYZ, ouch, and Yes' Roundabout. keeps me busy

A kind warning for anyone in a band. Reminding us of George and Ringo. They were in the biggest band in the world yet, in a sense, employees. Until Paul and John helped them with part-songs and ideas. George was soon reborn as a composer in his own right. I imagine good bands make an arrangement with the non-composer members, because their contribution makes the arrangement, which often makes the song a hit. Look what happened to Cream!

yep. I had this argument with our old songwriter who said you can't copyright a bassline.

    I said three words

    Pink Floyd's Money !

    ftw !

  10. hey mate, Jazz basses love nickel roundwounds imho

I've used D'Addario Nickel rounds 45-105 guage for over 30 years and never had a dud string.

really consistent sound from set to set.

I'd recommend them, as they can handle the bass heaviness of soloing the neck pup and the brightness needed on the bridge pickup.

    It's a pretty good allrounder tone-wise

I can get deep James Jamerson tone by using the neck pickup with the tone rolled down, and Geddy Lee or Chris Squire by turning the tone knob to max, and all points in between
