  1. sounds like an epiphone thunderbird pro 4 in black to me .the active circuit makes it stick out.
    I use a ricky ,p-bass and a musicman sub as well and it holds up to them.
    They are long and have a bit of neck dive but not excessive unlike the others,it,s a simple fix to relocate the strap pin if you want.
    It does have a lot of sounds and it has loads of beef.The neck is very slim like a jazz and stays slim all the way up the neck.The bridge is different to the epi,s and gibson bird which is a big improvement.My one after a good set up plays like a dream,I did have a few issues but easily fixed-neck relief and string height being the culprits and a high fret.
    If you were in the position to get a musicman sub then I would maybe lean towards the musicman sub which is built like a tank and is indestructable in a gigging situation.
    Try one out you might like it-it floats my boat and looks the doggies danglers.

  2. you can get a peavey tx 2x10 which is 4 ohm cheap second hand and they thunder,loadsa bottom end and turn the horn off..
    I use two with head version,one for practice or small gig and two to shake the walls down-one cab,300 watt-both 450 watt and never need to go above 4-5 at any time.
    You could try hooking it up to an extension cab and see if it makes a difference but it sounds like a duff.Try the head version out in the shop with 2 cabs and you will know the answer

  3. I got an epiphone fitted case for it for £69.99 .The guy in the shop said they don,t fit those cases so I insisted we try it out and would ya believe it it fitted like a glove with a few inches to spare at head end.
    It is a huge wardrobe of a case and awkward to fit in car for gigs but does it,s job.

  4. hiho, after a few niggles,here,s the update-I,ve played about with the pick up blend,deepest dub to honky cat,not as brittle as a musicman but nice.
    active eq-there is a lot of voices in this one.

  5. hiho,have to agree about musicman necks and ricky,s as well,stable all the time.
    Interestingly-Russ Ryan who techs for Geddy Lee said that the fenders were always moving about but the ricky that went on tour had no adjustment at all,I can back that up cause my ricky has had no need to adjust in 11 years same as my musicman in 7 years.

  6. hiho,just got an epiphone thunderbird pro 4,initial impressions
    -fit and finish-good paint job,frets nicely finished,treble pot not as smooth as the others but works with no noise,tuners nice and smooth,they are not schallers but so far very usable,bridge nice and chunky and easy to adjust.
    playing-neck had a back bow which was adjusted to give some relief and action lowered,there is a buzz on the D and G string at the 7th fret which may be a high fret at the 8th or the strings are duff,there are no buzzes anywhere else,will change strings to see if that does the trick.
    the neck is very slim like a jazz bass and not like the other epiphones which are more like a baseball bat in comparison.great neck for flying about on.
    sounds-plenty of thunder with the eq set flat and pick up balance/pan centered.neck pick up is very thuddy which would be good for dub/bob marley stuff,bridge pick up puts you in ray country without the over zingyness you can get with a musicman,I,ve a/b them.
    both on gives you a big wide sound with a lovely high register for great rock tones-so far so good.
    I,m very happy so far and makes a fine addition to the stable.
    I should have mentioned earlier that it is tranluscent black which is very nice and matches any of your stage outfits and won,t go out of fashion.
    Construction is neck through which is the same as a ricky made of a maple laminate so the head break bogey should not strike as long as you are sensible.This was a major consideration to me gigging cause you know that it,s a rough envoironment.
    I have gigged this and it kicks like a mule,recorded some tracks and it recorded realy well,very smooth.
    At the moment a very happy bunny and for the price I have no complaints yet and the neck dive isn,t as pronounced as with the others.
    It is a long reach to the end compared to the musicman which feels like a sawn off in comparison and the acess to the highest frets is not very good but how often do you go above the 15th fret in reality .

  7. hiho,I use the mb450 head which I believe is the same amp and it is massively loud even with one cab which kicks out 300 watt or the full 450 with two.I never need to run more than 4 on the master-do you have the gain turned down ?.
    I did have a problem with mine but I changed the pre amp valve which was cracked and problem solved.
    As for ashdown nice tone but no real volume in my experience.
    Volume should not be a problem with this baby,mind you another cab ,maybe a 2x10 will give you the herbs you need but I would suspect that there might be a problem with the unit.

  8. hiho,you also have the sub models as well,lot cheaper-same build quality,generally 2 eq,some passive-perfect giggin bass due to the bullet proof finish.Some people don,t like the look of them but I do.Built in USA usually go for £450 ish or less with a case-bargain.

  9. hiho,get a sansamp or hartke vxl-some type of pre amp driver and bend in to it and you,ll love it.
    I,ve got a musoman and a p-bass that sometimes see daylight.I just love it too bits,when you fiddle around and get them singing it,s hard to put them down.

  10. set the peg flat and use the sansamp as a pre-amp to dial in the sound-easy peasy.or send your sansamp to me and I will make good use of it.
    I f your tuning down you will need lots of power to release the low frequencies not necessarily bass more like low mid or mid mid.
    hope this helps-try your bass sans sansamp to get a core sound then garnish it with the sansamp
