2. Actually, just thought..would a courier be an option? Cheers
3. ok mate, too far from me, thanks for getting back
4. Whereabouts are you? Cheers
5. i tried this and everything was as tight as could be. i have spoken to the service people and they reckon that it is just knackered but it may, just may, be possible to rebuild it. its seems such a long shot and possibly expensive that i thought imight salvage one from another amp. thank you for your thoughts
6. i can come over about 4ish. pm me your addy, cheers, mark
7. i just pm'd you. not sure if it went asmy ipad wont show the page properly. let me know and iwill re send
8. any chance of coming to have a look on sunday (27th)?
9. cheers, just waiting for quote on a repair, if its too much ( repair, that is) i will def be interested. please bear with me. if you sell before then, thats tough luck on me. will be in touch either way. thanks again, mark
10. hi, do you still have this and how much? might be what i am looking for, cheers, mark
11. hi mark, thanks for getting back, yes, they have said they can take a look and give me a quote if it is possible to repair, but it wont be cheap. add to this the postage of such a heavy piece of kit and it al starts to add up! i thought it may be more realistic to findan old one and salvage the transformer and keep the rest for spares. alternatively, just keep the cabsection and get a different amphead altogether. decisions, decisions
12. i am throwing this one out there in the hope that someone my have or know where i can get a trace elliot gp11 410 combo transformer. mine fell out of the back of the van! still works but with an intolerable buzzing. i believe each transformer was made specifically for each model which makes it even harder to find! there are hand written numbers on it which read 50-39-0-39-50 if anyone has any ideas/thoughts on tracking one down i would greatly appreciate it. i know there is an option to repair it, but i cannot throw too much money at it on spec just to find i could have bought a (quality) brand new amp. thank you in anticipation
13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MEWAX:VRI similar story on this one, keeps being re-listed from 2 different countries. surprised that no bids, it's a lovely bass at a good price.
14. wow, looks great! yeah, definitely going to do it up. i think i will look into alternative necks too, just need to look into the costing a bit more. and like you say, i have the advantage of owning it already. great finish on yours dave and thanks for taking the time to post the pics. cheers, mark
15. thanks for the offers guys, but having read what you have all said here, i think i might well 'have a go' at fixing it back up but with a fretted neck. i always loved the way it played and sounded. i guess i could end up with a cracking new bass for (relatively) not a lot of cash. many thanks for the ideas
16.
As a rough guide cum suggestion......... I'm sure the string marks could be removed quite easily - maybe even a DIY job , though I'm not brave enough to suggest how. I'd bet money that the pot works fine and dandyo with a squirt of servisol The body - I had a new top made for mine and the whole thing refinished in clear gloss. Cost me £250. A waxed finish would have been much cheaper. The series 3000 , as has been said , was a 'poorman's' Status - sure. But in my opinion that means more affordable if it does the job - which it most certainly does. It's probably my favourite bass and often gets the nod over my Shuker.
thanks mr dave, well, i have food for thought now. i don't think i will fiddle with the aesthetics of it but certainly will give the servisol a shot. i guess i've just been lazy and done nothing with it. perhaps it's time now. thanks again for getting back. mark. btw. love the profile pic
17. hi guys, sorry i havent been around to check replies. thank you all for your comments. incidentally, the neck was damaged in a fall, then i had rob mend it and refinish it as a fretless. i then put roundwound strings on (doh!) which left marks on the fingerboard. it doesn't affect its playing, just aesthetics. it's a tricky one really, as i thought about putting an mm style status replacement nck on it but it but they seem to be pretty pricey. it was a really nice bass to play and sounded nice in that 80's kind of way still, thanks a million for your comments, i have something to think over!
18. i am thinking of selling this series 3000 status which i bought around 1988. it met with a nasty bump, so i sent it to rob green via the bass centre some years ago. at my request, he made it fretless for me. being an a**hole, i didnt realise that i should have put flats on and it has marked the neck! however, i had all the repairs done. for the last six years, it has been sitting there doing nothing so i was wondering what you guys might have thought it would fetch. i paid £800 20 years ago! it has a few knocks and scuffs and some heavy wear on the back (see pic) also there seems to be a dry joint on one of the pots. btw, it is serial no. 091 i look forward to your feedback, thanks in anticipation, mark
19.
Godin stuff really good quality, although thin bodies restrict acoustic volume. I recommend Washburn - I've had an AB20 for over 10 years with no probs - never had to set it up from new, just restring every now and then with phosphor bronze Elites or similiar! You see Washburn AB10s coming up on ebay for less than £300. Do bear in mind that most acoustic electric basses are only really loud enough unplugged for a bit of rehearsal at home. To be heard even with unplugged 6 strings you will need a dash of amplification.
cheers for the info. i've googled the washburns and they look really nice, but i really need a 5 string version. i'm not worried about volume as it's just for me to practice, i will plug it in at gigs. i sold a double bass a while ago 1. i couldn'r really transport it about and 2, couldn't really play it! which is why i want something to get fairly close when amped. i might well go check a washburn out because for the cash, it looks a good deal. thanks a lot for your help, this is the sort of feedback i was hoping for. cheers guys
20.
Went the Variax 5 string route ( see other thread!) which has quite a nice upright sound although noisegated! Moved that on when I got the Rick Turner Electroline 5 which sounds v acoustic due to piezo bridge and flatwounds but does need an amp.
thanks again for the info. i really would like a bass i can just pick up and play, i.e acou/ semi acou as it isn't always easy to practise with an amp. i will have a good look around for a good acoustic. do you know anything about godin? thanks again
21.
I had an electro-acoutic Crafter 5 String and sold it because it was impossible to intonate the B correctly as the bridge was wooden and had no adjustment. I got fed up with band members saying I was out of tune. Sounded nice but it depended on the amp it was played through, the Roland Cube was best.
thanks for that, it is something t bear in mind. never thought about the wooden bridge. btw, what did you end up using?
22. hi all, i am a newbie here. i am interested in buying an acoustic or semi acoustic 5 string, but there doesn't seem to be too much choice out there. i wondered if anyone has any recomendations or feedback etc. i want something that bridges the gap between double bass and guitar.i beleive warwick make one but only in a 4 string. also, does anyone know much about the fender victor bailey? thank you in anticipation
