1. Just stumbled across this 'interesting trivia..." Scary thing is, I'm a leftie who plays right-handed! I can only pray Reeves' playing is less wooden and stiff than his acting, I expect he couldn't swing if he was hanging from a lamp-post (he might have speed though). LOL! Anyone else left-handed and plays right, and are there any other bass playing 'celebs' out there?
2. Re-read thread title. What's the stuff you just love or hate also. I'll get off the cross 'cos you can use the wood!
3. As usually happens in forum topic threads people look but they don 't always see. The original thread was what is over rated bass or bass equipment? Pointy bass never were or will be over rated, Ashdown amps have never to my knowledge been rated highly, poor players with expensive equipment is not over rated, it's just misguided and shot sighted. Over rated is: Exotic hardwoods. Boutique pedals - small quantity and high cost doesn't make it sound any better as a matter of course, same for above. Custom electronics. Relic/signature equipment. Stupidly expensive strings. Exotic hardwoods. Slapping and popping.
4. Smooth transaction, a pleasure to do business with, fast payment too.
5. Elite string set, long scale nickel plated, light guage 95/75/55/35 with box and separate individual paper bags. Used less than two hours, I wanted same guage, tried something new but found I preferred a bit more rough at my fingertips! (I generally use D'addario). Uncut and was wound onto a Fender Jazz (which actually helps with a bit of pre-streching as it goes!). £9 with postage included or collect from SE London (Herne Hill - SE24). Thanks.
6. Wheat woven exterior black and silver Fender Vinatge Volt cable, fitted Fender plugs in very good condition. Surplus to my equipment, great for vintage vibe with exception sound quality (they come new with a limited lifetime warranty). £11 with postage included or can collect (I'm in Herne Hill, SE24, South London.
7.
Went to the Bass Gallery for a repair, to get a new nut made for a 70's Fender Jazz bass. Was told four days, repair not started 'til nearly two weeks later! Misaligned G string and charged £30. Quick job and sloppy, not impressed. Staff are generally nice and helpful in my experience though.
On the other hand the repair guy at the now defunk (at least in terms of building) Bass Centre was great. Went for set up, but he ended up sorting out the warps in my neck and sorting out the bridge as extras free of charge! Now that's what I call service.

9. thanks for the replies. i'm aware though of what a compressor does, i've owned several, but i'm curious about placement either before an amp or in an effects loop? if most pedals are designed to go before an amp, why do amps even have effects send and returns? assuming i've no other effects does it make any difference where to place a pedal compressor? and if i use multiple pedals (compressor at end of the chain), what's the difference having them before the amp or in the amps effects loop (other than being able to control the level in a loop)? i will experiment, i'm just curious what most people find works best.
10. This has probably been posted already, but is it better to place a compressor before an amp or to place it in the effects loop (compressor is pedal not rack). Also which is this applicable if your not using any other effects, and what if your using effects such as distortion, filters etc. And does using an active/passive bass make any difference. Advice or suitable links appreciated. Just so no-one asks me what my rig is (I'm looking for advice about compression not necessarily specific to my set-up), I've got a '73 jazz, EA iamp500 head into an EA CLX-112E with a Demeter Compulator. Thanks.
