I think you are making a big msitake! From the one pick, I'll bet it is absolutely stunning all over You'll never get that again and when you consider the price of Sterling Rays 34/35 around the £1300 in GG, you may find a replacemnt (should you realise your potential mistake) unaffordable in the near future.
DON'T DO IT, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!
All the best, Andy
You guys are beautiful on here...............

Yep, I have one in sunburst with maple fingerboard and black blocks. Stunning instrument.....
Oooooh, any chance of a pic or two?

Guys and gals...........
Can someone put me out of my misery?
Has anyone ever seen an original P with stock black block inlays on a maple neck?
One of you cats must have one.........?

OOH........ This has their early version of the Power Squeezer. Very handy indeed.
I've recently purchased the 30XL for guitar and that, with it's Power Squeezer is a REALLY handy amp.

Just looked it up actually.......
Yes, nitro finished......
Plus a 7.25" radius.....
OOF.....

Thank you. Sartorial elegance has never been my strong point, so it’s good to know I’ve managed a wardrobe match.
You're smashing it...............>!

I've had a request for picks of my very recently acquired 4003. I didn't buy anything in 2023 (I completed the abstinence thread), the shop was shut on New Year's Day and it wasn't listed on the web site. So after trying it on New Year's Eve the 2nd Jan was my first purchasing opportunity - duly taken with a deposit down about 20 minutes after the shop opened, balance paid, bass collected and back home by 1:30pm.
I went to the shop to try out a pre-owned Fender American Pro Jazz, but saw the Ric so tried it too. I've already got a white jazz (as you can see, albeit fretless) and the Ric interested me way more than the American Pro. It ticks a lot (my wife hopes all) of my remaining gas boxes:
- A natural finish
- A maple fretboard that isn't roasted (I have a short scale Ibanez that is beautifully roasted - not shown in the pics as it is headless)
- Fret markers that aren't dots (though I do have very pretty ones on my acoustic 6 string pictured next to the Ric)
- An iconic bass that wasn't designed by Leo Fender (there aren't many of them)
- A sound I don't really get with my other basses, particularly with a pick
Although I didn't buy it for the Ric-o-sound, I'm starting to see possibilities which is making me think about affects again (which I didn't beyond those I already had at the start of my abstinence year).
(Excuse the slippers - they aren't doing much for my street cred).
Great pic......... and your slippers match your shirt.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow.
I'm having a bass off too, to see if I can part with it. It was my first "real" bass..............

Bit tangential. But needing a new desk chair - got one for Christmas that has flip up armrests so I can play bass/guitar seated in front of mixer without awkward manoeuvring.
I'm totally with you on this. Mrs Chewie will say " I've seen a new chair" and I'll say "Has it got any arms?"

Hi Dave,
They're Gotoh and they're fantastic. Slightly weighty compared to the original ones that were on it but they work and look the business.
Yes they're a direct fit.

Do you mind if i ask what tuners you went for as my Vintera P bass tuners are pretty rubbish to be honest. Are the replacements a direct fit for the originals.

I've sold more gear this year than bought.......... I think.
Best has to be my Squier jazz which I've done a few bits to.
Different tuners, I've taken the shine off the poly finish, changed a capacitor and the pickguard and added a badass bridge.
I seem to be going down a moddy kind of route at the moment.
Worst thing was easily a Yamaha BB735a. I literally picked it up from the vendor and knew it was gone.
I know this is sacrilege to many on here but I don't play in a band anymore and it just sounded insipid to me and was just a big lump with a flat fretboard.

Seriously, a Precision bass with flats on it.

A soldering iron and digital scales for when every silly billy says "weight please....!"

Must play one of these one day.
I had a vintage version of this spec.

Bought almost nothing the entire year... until late in December when I got a Rickenbacker 4003 off a drummer pal who got it in a trade.
I cleaned it up and fixed the wiring issues (pickups and bridge had been upgraded) but I'm just not getting along with the ergonomics. I'll be moving it on in the new year, and hopefully replacing it with something short scale and fretless.
Wow........ that'll go in a heartbeat.......
Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2023?

Oooof, I feel like I should've owned a Modulus for a while.
