Does it have a case?

Yes. It's not a Hofner case, but it is a period case and a good for the bass.

  3. Some people asked me some questions, and asked for some specific photos.

Do you have any more info on its date?

When I bought it I was told it was a 1968. I've has a look at some information on he web to try and confirm this.

It has a serial number at the top of the headstock (8761). I tried to find a date corresponding to this. I read here http://www.hofner.co...mer_numbers.pdf that only the Hofner basses produced for Selmer had seal numbers. The serial number I have does not correspond to the Selmer numbers. I read somewhere that basses produced for Holland also have a serial number.

(You know that thing where you photograph a bass and the marks look really bad...and I didn't even get the whole serial number).

I then looked at this site, which allows you to date a violin bass based on the logo, pickups, tuners etc.

    1. Raised plastic logo - 1963 to 1967

(you know that thing when you take a photograph of your bass and it looks like you have never dusted it...)

    2. Single closed tuners with plastic wings - 1967 to 1973

    4. Blade pickups with engraved Hofner logo - 1967 to 1972

    5. Cream control panel - 1965 to 1971

If you draw a five part Venn diagram, then one set of criteria imply 1967, others 1968 (assuming the web site is correct of course). it does also say that some 1967 features were carried over to 1968, so I'm going for '68.

Off to see Mad Max now. More later.

    Thanks

    Steve
