  1. Isn't it strange though when a singer has a strong accent talking, but not singing???? ( Looking at you, Adele....)😆😆

I can't think of a good rock example for your question apart from maybe Mike Tramp of White Lion who had a great Danish/American accent that I really liked.

Yes, I found that out with a bit of research on t'web.  The slight problem in my case was that postie didn't leave a card so I had no idea where it was.  It was only when I started to think laterally that I lifted up my front door mat and found it.  Luckily none the worse for wear for being stomped on for 2 days.  :)

Yes , that's just stupid, I don't do delivery any more but always leave a card if you leave a package somewhere, it's only common courtesy not to mention proper process.  Glad it's OK 👍

  3. I think the magic of Van Halen ( and I loved both singers eras) was that, even without the revolutionary solos, they had great, 4 minute, catchy memorable songs, the guitar wizadry was just the extremely wonderful cream on top of an exquisite cake.

Sure, many shredders came in his wake and created some great music, but Eddie did it within the song and did what other widdlers did in a 5/6 minute instrumental in a twenty second burst , and that meant a lot more.

I particularly loved his little touches and embellishments, witness the playing on 'When It's Love' live, just beautiful. RIP, smiling man.

Be wary of the Bass Direct website. I ordered some ultralites 5 weeks ago on the basis they were in apparently in stock. They were not and I am still waiting, even though they took my money on the day of order.

I suggest calling the shop to check on a) are they in stock and b) delivery times if they are not. They are being totally non committal with me as to when they will come in.

Same here, I purposely ordered the ones listed as IN stock. They weren't, although full marks to them they emailed me to tell me and I got a refund straight away. Tried again two weeks ago, still out of stock. On ebay they cost a fortune unless you're happy to get from USA

  5. Yes, always looking / listening for new stuff I like. There's a fair bit I don't but that's ok, the great thing about being 51 is I'm not limited to liking stuff just because it's popular/cool. Not that age should be a factor in this, but it seemed to be when I was younger. I like that trying new music is easier than ever, I do still like to purchase my favourites in physical form though.

Yeah, sorry about that. I've got to get out of the habit.

There was a certain bass player of a certain up and coming artist that I was well into about 10 years ago (so much I used to go to as many gigs of theirs as I could).

Every single gig, I would get peed off with the bass player looking so glum and miserable. I'd yell it out, "Cheer up <insert name>"

Years later, he comes clean on a facebook post saying that they were the worst years of his life, he was going through a mentally abusive relationship, he was having a battle with alcoholism and was a manic depressive on the verge of suicide. Just goes to show... I'm not proud. I just thought he had resting b1tch face.

I think this is why we never made it big, our music was miserable as bloody sin but we were all well adjusted , happy , played with smiles on our faces, and really good friends who were having fun.

    no change for us!

    😆😆😆😆

The crowning moment of my 'career' in an originals band ( slow Sabbath like riffs mostly) was a gig in Southend when, after several minutes of a song that had a  sludgy , D tuned,  grinding intro , there was a brief moment of silence, and some wag in the audience shouts out "Cheer up!!!!"

We fell about laughing, and I believe we crammed in a Thunder cover version later to lighten the mood 😆😆😆

Cool looking  bass, any idea what model that is 🙂

Apparently a 1972 Guild M85 II. I admit to having little knowledge of this other than what I've read online, but it's, IMO, better looking than a Les Paul bass but looks like a Les Paul...😆😆

There really aren’t that many 32” five strings to choose from at this budget level.

That's true. Indeed the 5 string seems even better value at just £299, and the body work/ neck on my 4 string is fantastic so as a modding platform it makes sense. (Just not for my limited uses.)

Yeah definitely, and I guess if it was just that and replacing the jazz pickup wouldn't cost too much. 🤷‍♂️

The jazz pickup on its own run passive might not be so buzzy ( certainly no worse than any other single coil) , my hunch is the preamp is exacerbating the buzz. I could be very wrong though. There are, as Im sure you know, single coils that are wired as humbuckers so that'd be the other ( more costly) option I guess.

As a comparison the P pup doesn't sound a million miles away from my other bass ( Yamaha BB414) when solo'd on it's P pup. Bit more modern , forward, but still open and big sounding, to me. 👍

Some very interesting reading on there, and some guys seem to be spending twice the value of the bass on doing it up! 😂

I know.....I mean maybe I'm just mad but if I wanted to splash another £200+ then I'd possibly have looked at a different bass..? Perhaps that's just me. The jazz buzz  seems to me to be made worse by the pre-amp being quite bright, but the P pickup is nice and punchy ( and free of buzz) so I'm quite happy just to use that, if  it were a £700 bass I'd be a bit miffed but the thing plays so nicely that for £250 it's a little failing that doesn't bother me.

I'm sure you could put a passive loom in for a few quid and that would be a great low cost upgrade. 👍

Does anyone know of the pickups on these are kinda standard sizes, and could be replaced easily?

I did read somewhere that the jazz pup is NOT standard and would need some woodwork ( maybe on talkbass, def not on basschat?) , but I think the P pup is standard. To be fair I only use the P and it sounds fine, I'd have been more than happy with a single pickup passive, in fact if I needed to gig thisbass that's what I'd do and just leave the jazz pup in unconnected as a thumb rest
