These are lovely basses. Tried a few in GAK and Andertons. Great build. Sound good. Light. What’s not to like?

    Spoiler

My SKC Bogart Blackstone. I spotted it for sale at The Gallery through the BC Commercial Sales forum and that was that, I had to have it! I've wanted a Bogart for years but my plans to buy one in years past have always fallen through. I have a different favourite bass in my collection every day but I think this one has had the most use so far this year. It makes me smile every time it comes out of the case. Graphite neck+Barts and a Noll preamp makes for a happy lad.

    Worst:

    Phil Jones Bass Bighead.

It's an amazing little pocket preamp with loads of useful applications and tight, clean tone that really lets a bass sing. However, I've had so little time to use it I haven't even flattened the battery since I got it a few months ago! I need to make an effort to use it more as it's a great bit of kit and just the sort of thing I need.

Hi Chris, could you tell me Something: I used to own a Blackstone 5 but had concerns about the neck's stability. In fact it has a slight bow even when no strings on. The guy behind the brand (I forgot his name) told me it happened sometimes and that he could mill a truss rod channel and install one, but in fact he gave no sign of life quite soon). I ended up selling the bass cheap (around E 600) -mentioning my concern- though the sound was really really good . Did you notice this slight bow with no strings on too?

    Amazing playing/ beautiful sound.!

I'm amazed Ovation already used carbon back in the 70's: is it the black part of the neck's back ?

    What is the weight, please?

It's an unusual tuning arrangement so best to just watch somebody...

Nice you posted that, I've even  seen the boss of a big music shop, and former bassist,  very experienced man about guitars, ruining a set of strings (one actually) in front of me some years ago. Quite typical, said he. This bridge is quite a PITA, I Believe

Some years ago the Factors were very much cheaper on the second hand market, it's a bit pricey now.

     Japanese Fender?

Japanese Fenders are quite a GAS and a fashion too. They tend to be a bit overpriced now and though they are often very good Indeed I had one or two that were very  mediocre.

@gottastopbuyinggear : The copper one sounded great, but maybe not the white one ;)

If people ask me what I do, I say I am a musician, simply because I don't do anything else, nor do I want to. If people ask me if I earn my living from music, I tell 'em to mind their own feckin business!

Reminds me of the little girl hearing a Toad near a pond : "Hey, I'm a musician, I've been cursed by a witch, just kiss me, I'll become normal again and marry you …". Then the girl just puts him in her Pocket, and goes away, saying "I'll earn way more money with a speaking Toad".
