I've just started playing again after a break and wanted a budget rig, so I bought a Trace Elliot 1153 cab for £100 and an Orange Terror Bass for £350 and together they sound fantastic.

The 1153 only weighs about 50lbs and is pretty compact so is easyish to carry around and they come up for sale fairly regularly as does the 2103, which is the 2x10 model in the same range. They are great cabs that have gone out of fashion I guess. Also don't discount Ashdown. Ignore all the woolly bollocks that some people spout. The Compact/Mini range sound good, are portable and can be picked up for peanuts.

WW amps are about as common as Unicorns over here so you're probably asking in the wrong place. I know there are a lot of users on Talkbass so you may get more responses posting on there.

Confused? I certainly am I've never actually done this so it'd be useful if someone who had would chip in but bi-amping seems to be something not many people do.

To put it slightly differently to help your understanding, looking at the back panel layout, there are two bi-amp outputs. One is for your high frequencies, one is for low frequencies. They are both line level so each of these outputs needs to drive it's own power amp and each power amp drives a speaker.

So you need 2 separate power amps to bi-amp. One of these will be the internal power amp in the Tmax which you drive by looping the first crossover output into the "Pwr amp in" jack on the back of the Tmax and that will drive a speaker via the normal speaker jacks on the back of the amp.

The second crossover output goes to your external power amp and then to another speaker. Then you'll have hours of fun messing around with the crossover frequency point and the balance control

I'll be interested to know how you get on, whether it sounds pants or like the voice of God speaking through your Trace Elliots

Edit: How the pre on the Tmax works is a whole other mystery. Again I will assume that the crossover outputs are post EQ so changing the pre-amp settings will affect both crossover outs the same.

No, the power amp of the Tmax would be providing half of your bi-amped high level output. I assume the "Pwr amp in" jack drives the power amp and gives an output on your speaker jacks. The external power amp, driven by the other crossover output, provides the other half.

I used to own a Tmax but never really got to grips with the Bi-amping feature. I can tell you though that you will need a seperate power amp to use it. My best guess is that you feed one of the crossover outputs into the Pwr amp in, which gives you half of the Bi-amped signal out of the speaker output on the Tmax, and the other crossover output goes to a seperate power amp.

I don't know why they don't cover this in the owners manual

I had a similar situation with a cab that got fried. It had to go back to them 3 times before they actually fixed it. I can't fault their helpfulness and desire to do the right thing but I just got the impression that their organisation is a bit haphazard.

I bought Dan's Trace/Elliot 1153. He described it as "well gigged". I'd describe it as as close to new condition as a cab that age is likely to be. Buy with confidence.

I've always been a bit sceptical of the factory relic thing but the RW seem to be amazingly good basses. Never heard a bad word about them. I was looking for a Jazz recently and I came close to buying one but in the end I liked the colour of the sunburst on the CS '64 and I managed to find a used one at a decent price.

If it's called a Roadworn then it's Mexican but the Mexican reissues are finished in Poly AFAIK. Confusing innit

The AV series doesn't have any relicked basses in the range. The Roadworn are all Mexican

EDIT: The AV series are all finished in nitro though so buy one and use it for a few years and it'll be roadworn

Do people really spend £1000 on a bass and then another £250 to get it sprayed a different colour. Not a chance. For that sort of money you are getting close to Boutique builder territory.

Fender are never going to offer the J or P in sparkly orange, because Fender are all about tradition and I would bet that sunburst is still their best seller. If James Jamerson played a sparkly orange Precision then it'd be in their catalogue.

Yes really. They still offer all the colours on guitars so they haven't forgotten they exist. If they don't offer them on basses then there's a good reason for it. These things don't happen by chance.

For instance they used to offer LPB in the 1990s on the US Standard but discontinued it and it's now only available on the Mexican range. Multi million dollar corporations like Fender exist to make a profit and if they were making money on it it wouldn't have been discontinued.

Colours like Shell Pink and Seafoam Green might be desirable to a few people on BC but I doubt there is enough mass appeal to justify producing them. One of Fender's main USPs has been their link with the past. You can look at footage from the 1960s and 70s and see classic bands with the same instruments you can buy today, so that means black, white or sunburst. Custom colours were rare. That kind of endorsement keeps Fenders selling, especially to people of a certain age

+1 to this. I've always found the range of colours a limited. With the exception of white and sunburst I'm not too keen on any of them. Even the sunburst seems very dull compared to the CS sunbursts.

I'm sure the range of colours hasn't happened by accident though. Fender have a lot of very highly paid marketing bods figuring these things out.

Edit: So you've tried Ashdown's website. Are you sure there is a manual for the EB130. It looks like they do one manual to cover everything. The pre-amps are pretty similar
